Pours a nice dark brown with some reddish tint. The head is light brown and Guinnessy in it's tight foaminess.
Promised smokiness is muted, overwhelmed by some roasted malt, tootsie roll chocolate, and molasses.
There's some smoke! The palate isn't exactly a barbecue pit, but that's good, we've got some balance. The roasted malt combine with the smoke to make a nice full flavor.
Mouthfeel is okay, I might be way off base, but I felt it was a tad undercarbonated. A balanced beer. I can't decide if it's balanced because all the facets are mediocre or because they did a nice job putting the beer together.
