typical colors of deep brownish black and some ruby highlights, looks gorgeous though a little thin headed. leaving a bit of thin tan sheet like lacing.
the smoke scent is fairly light, from what I am gathering, though definitely present. it seems almost masked by a strong licorice nose. no real hop aroma to speak of.
the flavor is not much different although the smoke has pretty severely decreased in potency. the malt profile seems to have changed quite a bit as well, more of a sweet malt character than bitter smoke or licorice, closer to caramel but still lingering a bit on the other end.
the mouthfeel is quite nice, though a bit thin, very clean and crisp while a touch creamy. decent carbonation that strikes a balance between prickly and foamy. sweet semi dry finish.
overall, my expectations may have affected my enjoyment of this beer. i've begun a bit of a love affair with smoked beers, and honestly, this beer just aint that smokey. it also aint that portery either. still drinkable and not too shabby.
