Pours as black as a freshly paved asphalt road. Even poured straight down the middle of a pint glass, only a small, but very dark tan, head develops, less than one finger high. Retention isn't too great, lacing isn't either.
Smell is roasted malt, rum, raisins, wheat, dark chocolate and a hint of cardboard nut and pepper. Great balance and complexity.
Taste is rich with dark chocolate, roasted malt, rum soaked raisins and wheat (darn near the whole fruitcake) with a medicinal soy note coming through in the aftertaste. Really nice balance.
This is almost full bodied with a less than expected viscosity. Light effervescence, negligible really. This is a sipping beer for certain. Smooth as a baby's butt and just as warm. Super delicious.

Shared bottle at local tasting, bought at Systembolaget, Sweden. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Lovely aroma, Belgian yeast and strong roasty notes, dark chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Roasty flavour, medium sweet, the same elements as in the aroma. Excellent beer.

22oz bottle at share. One of the weakest of the night, IMHO. Not bad, but it was up against some strong competition. Funky Belgian notes throughout that don't quite jive with the base. Interesting, but after the Cuvee Delphine, there was no comparison.

Had this bad boy on draft a few years ago. From my notes:

Pitch black color.

Nice dark khaki head; spotty lacing.

Heavy chocolate smell with a hint of dark fruit.

Thick mouthfeel.

A malt chocolate bomb with a hint of plum; very tasty & not very Belgian. Worthy.

Super black all the way through. Beige 1" head. Roast and a quaint Belgian yeast note in the nose.

Taste is gargantuan amounts of malt to cover up the majority of the Belgian notes. Pretty dry mouthfeel somehow. The chocolate malt flavors are lessened a little bit in this one from the competing yeast. Still plenty bitter. Comes off a little sweeter though, marginally. Even though it is classified as a Belgian style stout, in the Russian Imperial Stout vibe, it owes more as an American double stout more than the others. The yeast notes are faint, the dark fruit vibe of a RIS is almost absent, but the heavy viscosity and chewiness is definitely there.

2011 on tap @ bottleworks, Seattle
big stout rich and full of flavor. black w/ 1/2 finger brown head. rich chocolate, coffee scent with the mildest hint of yeast. taste was roasty, chocolate, coffe notes. again, mild hint of yeast...not overpowering in the least bit. mouthfeel was rich, lasting flavor with barely any hint of alcohol. Overall, glad to have tried. would have again, which i did and would continue to do so if i come upon. Cheers!
