Originally rated it 4.5 | 4.0 | 4.0 | 4.5 | 4.0 on May 10, 2012 on tap, but had it 4.5 | 4.0 | 4.5 | 4.0 | 4.5 on July 31, 2012 on bottle. Went with the bottle one.
Poured from a draft into a pint glass at San Diego Brewing Company. About a finger of head when I got it. Color was rich toffee amber. Reddish tan lacing on the top of the pour. Long-lasting even film on the glass.
Smelled light cedar or pine hops. Also seemed to get some tangerine or orange on the nose. A bit oaky. Clean and some light sweet caramel.
Not as hoppy on the taste as I’d thought it would be. Very malty, caramel leading the way. So smooth, but could taste the alcohol late. Could taste the oakiness, as well as some light cedar notes.
Definitely the feel was the best part of the beer. Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long-lasting finish.
Really good beer overall. A couple of my ratings could have gone either way, but the feel really kills it here. Definitely the best part of the beer.
