Great Divide 18th Anniversary

Appearance: dark amber, medium head, and some good lacing. 4

Smell: apples, caramel, slight oak, and a slight toffee. 4.5

Taste: hops, caramel, slight apple citrus, and a faint oak finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel: medium. 4

Overall:
Another great year of the anniversary brings great flavor. I think it falls slightly under to the greatness of the 17th Anniversary's, but still very good.

A: Nice amber to caramel color, mild haze but bottle was about 18 months old. Nice cream colored head.
-- Label is nicely done with more a " classic wine" bottle look, simple and eloquent. It is hard on initial look to find brewer.

S: Initial heavy malt smell with a hind a sweetness. Typical hoppy smell with fresh hops was not as heavily appreciated

T: Mellowed out malt and hops with a aftertaste of of earthy tones and oak. Finishes slightly sweet. Typical heavy hop bitterness is not appreciated. Vert nicely done

M: Silky and finishes smoothly

O: Nicely done beer. The bitterness of fresh hopped IPA is tempered by the wood aging.

Bomber from the Potsdam NY IGA for $9 - Bottled March 2012

Appearance - Hazy amber colour with an average size frothy off white coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, caramel/butterscotch, light hops, dark fruits

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel, and grassy hops. There is also a bit of a metallic flavour and dark fruits and some vanilla.

Overall - Not sure if this was meant be drank fresh.. but it is after all already aged. Mayne there would be more DIPA flavours - instead it tastes like a barleywine. Still a decent barley wine, just not all that exciting. I couldn't really taste the wood.
