I have been trying to do a vertical of all the Yetis for a while now, and every time I bring it to the table with friends it ends up being too much of an endeavor. So instead I finally decided to just start drinking them one at a time. To start, I'm doing the freshest, bottled on July 16, 2013.

Pours a jet black semi thick frothy little creamy head covering that fades at a med to quicker pace, very little lacing but nice legs as the thick beer runs down the sides of the glass much better than the lacing, and the beer is just pitch black, no light getting through, and it even seems to stain the glass a little.

Nose is pretty nice, starting with plenty of dark malts, and continuing with them for a while, little roasty malt with plenty of varying caramels that bring a little creme brulee, into a super dark chocolate, thick syrupy but bitter dark chocolate, little baker's and semi sweet as well. Then into a creamy aroma, oats and oats rolled in dark chocolate, touch of roasted coffee, and interesting caramelized raisin covered in chocolate.

Taste starts rich and creamy, more oats and again oats rolled in dark chocolate, into big heavy malts, mostly chocolate and dark caramel malts, with a touch of roasty and black malt that gets fairly sweet and just a bit burnt. Hint of coffee from the roast leads into the different chocolate levels, dark and baker's mostly, with a nice creamy lush feel that's not too far off from melting chocolate, nice oat level almost chewy like, and some caramel flavors with a little caramelized sugar and fluffy nougat but not a ton, and just a hint of a fruity raisin like flavor, chocolate covered caramelized raisin again which is so light I wouldn't have found it if I wasn't looking for it. Finish is long, some decent bitterness kicks in with a little earthy and spicy hop and bitterness from the roasted characters, more lingering creamy lush chocolate and dark malts, little caramel, bit more of the chocolate covered raisin coming through too.

Mouth is really nice, big creamy and lush, velvety, nice fluffy carb even, very faint hint of warming booze which is good for 9.5%.

Overall very nice, as expected from any of the Yetis, delicious malt characters, so creamy and lush, chewy even, very faint hint of raisin that I wish was a bit more, nice bitterness, good long finish, drinks very well for 9.5%. can't wait to get to the rest of the Yetis.

Bottle I brought to share at the DTLA bottle share held at Beer Belly in Los Angeles, CA.

Bottled 7/16/13.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oat, cocoa, and charred fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and char flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with lots of roast and char qualities all around.

June 2013 bottle, opened August 2014

A - Pitch black body with an espresso foam head. Nice retention and lace.

S - Awesome nose. Best of the Yeti's. Rich oatmeal, sweet cream, light coffee, vanilla, and milk chocolate.

T - Wow, definitely the best tasting of the Yeti's. Cream, raisins, oatmeal, spiced rum, dark chocolate truffles, caramel, dried cocoa nibs, Nutella.

M - Beautiful. Thick, creamy, and super smooth. Touch of warm booze.

O - Best of the Yeti's in my opinion, and one of the best oatmeal stouts I've ever had. Big, chewy, bold, and smooth.

Pours a black body with minimal tan head and lace.
Has a roasted malt aroma that has hints of both chocolate and coffee.
Smooth, slightly sweet from chocolate and balanced with dry, roasted malts that give off a touch of coffee.
Rather simplistic stout but it's so smooth while maintaining both a sweet and dry edge that it is so drinkable (and dangerous as the ABV is well-hidden).
Just a well-tailored stout.

Poured from a bottle with a bottled on date of 6/19/14; into a snifter.
Appearance - dark as a shadow; creamy mocha head that leaves plenty of lacing.
Smell - roasted coffee, dark fruits (possibly the raisin).
Taste - flavorful espresso, just the right amount of warming alcohol.
Feel - big, bold and creamy!
Overall - another great Yeti, that I have cellared and will review again!

Bottled on June 24th 2013.Poured into an oversized wine glass black and thick looking with a perfectly formed deep mocha colored one finger head atop,very menacing looking...in a good way.Char and dark fruit stand out most in the nose,the raisin used in this brew stands out most.A full airy feel in the mouth,I knew it would be creamy but this goes beyond that,it just glides down to easily.It's charred and surprisingly earthy on the palate,I was expecting much sweeter,it's sweet with it chocolate and's dark fruit character but it doesn't come close to being cloyining,the earth and smoke is just as big.I expected some earthiness but not smoke in how big it is,just a great beer,the mouthfeel is almost perfect.

Poured into a tulip glass, this beer is a very deep and dark opaque brown with a rich, dark tan head.
The aroma is rich and roasty with whiffs of coffee, dark chocolate and dark fruit.
A great tasting brew! Chocolate and roast coffee notes along with flavors of raisin and dates. A rich, lingering bitter finishes the sip.
The mouthfeel is lovely, smooth and so creamy.
Overall, a topnotch imperial stout.

22 oz bottle. Pours inky black with a big creamy brown head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is roasted chocolate malts and raisins with a little chalkiness.

The flavor is roasted black patent malt with a little chocolate and dark fruit. There's a good amount of bitterness from the roast. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a decent addition to the yetis. A bit too much bitter roast, and I don't notice much from the oatmeal or raisin.

Oatmeal Yeti opens to a thick waft of sugar, the initial aromas sweet and smelling more like a heavy Barleywine, with raisins, figs, and scads of candi sugar dripping from the open mouth. After a few seconds, an ashy undercurrent kicks in to temper the sugars, bringing coffee, ash, tobacco, and very light bits of char. The sugars are still developing as well, with heavy cream, vanilla, caramel, and toffee joining the mix, as well as milk chocolate. Thick brown breads, marble rye toast, and fresh barley build up the base, adding earthiness. As a whole, the nose is very nice, offering everything one could expect from a Yeti: fullness, balance, development, and strength. The nose does lack in the savoir faire of some of Yeti's barrel-aged and funkier pieces, but what is present here is simple, clean, and lovely.

On the tongue, the beer opens with a double shot of sugar and ash, the former surprisingly strong and reminiscent immediately of wildflower honey, with berry, raisin, fig, and black cherry fruit esters added for good measure, and the latter nicely dark, the ash, tobacco, black coffee grounds, and peppery char playing very nicely together. The thick brown breads and marble rye are also present, balancing the beer as a go-between for the sugars and ashes, joined by vanilla, caramel, and toffee, as well as bits of toasted nut. These flavors are strong enough to not fade over the course of several mouthfuls, though the sugars do tend to overtake the initial parts of the later mouthfuls. The ashy notes tend to creep up toward the end, and last well into the aftertaste, which lingers on the tongue in burnt goodness for a long time, joined by a bourbon-like overtone (though this has not been barrel-aged) from the 9.5% ABV. Mouthfeel is medium to medium-heavy, though it does feel somewhat light, given the fullness of the flavors, and carbonation is medium.

Overall, this is an excellent Imperial Stout, and the oatmeal gives the mouthfeel a nice slickness that contributes to the sensation that the viscosity is less than it should be. The flavors are excellent and superbly balanced, as is characteristic of the Yeti line, the sugars being especially full and round. This is actually one of the beer's weaker points, however, for the sugars are so full that they overshadow much of the darker, ashy notes for most of the mouthful. Still, this is excellent fare, and worth trying.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice. Bottled on June 24th, 2013.

Appearance: Pours an oily pitch black with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of deep tan head that recedes into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A rich and sweet roasty aroma with a lot of chocolate malt hints and dark fruit undertones. Dark roasted barley malts with big hints of dark chocolate, coffee bean, toasted bread, burnt caramel, toffee, grains, and biscuit. Oatmeal hints along with a little smoke. Sweet burnt molasses and a little anise spice. Deep undertones of dark fruit with hints of raisin, fig, prune, and dark cherry. Some earthy hops are also in the background. A very nice rich dark aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma, a very roasty and rich dark malt driven taste with good notes of chocolate and dark fruit. Dark roasted barley malts upfront with a big rich taste of dark chocolate, coffee beans, burnt caramel, burnt toast, toffee, grains, biscuit, and nuts. Good notes of oatmeal and smoked malt. Sweet notes of burnt molasses. Subtle anise spice. Good presence of dark dried fruits with notes of raisins, fig, prune, dark cherry, and dates. Some earthy hops add a nice balance of bitterness. A very good dark taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very rich, creamy, silky, and fairly chewy. Alcohol heat is hidden pretty well.

Overall: Another good spin on this great imperial stout. Has all the great dark notes of the base stout with a nice extra punch of oats and raisin.

Pitch black body with a light tan head feels formed and fine like any other big beer around...dark syrupy texture fine speckled tan lacing it's amazing. Aroma has grains of dark chocolate, and soft oatmeal sweetness...another aspect of Yeti we'd thought we would never see. Robust chocolate notes fruity undertones, big creamy dark chocolate this beer is rolling with flavors abound. Overall a massive beer with huge body creamy texture carbonation and it's just plain deliciousness in a bottle.

Very dark, almost black with no opacity. Aroma is malty, chocolatey, with just a hint of coffee and dark fruit. Taste is sweet, with a lot of overripe dark fruit flavors, some dark chocolate and a bit of coffee as well. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, the alcohol is very well hidden for 9.5%. Overall, a pretty good stout.

Appearance - Pours jet black with a cocoa powder colored finger width head. Fair retention leads to a thin layer of surface suds and a thick ring around the edge of the glass. Nice lacing around the glass with good stick.

Smell - Prominent oatmeal aroma, while lesser notes of chocolate make up the bulk of what's left. Hints of roast and fruity dark raisin.

Taste - Smooth and heavily influenced by the oatmeal when cold, but opens up beautifully once warmed. Heavy chocolate and coffee flavor upfront, but is fairly met by some oatmeal character to tide over the rough roasted bitterness. Raisin somewhat comes through toward the finish with darkened sweetness, but that lovely dark and roasty bitterness prevails.

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low carbonation. Silky smooth delivery, going down with ease before a drying finish.

Overall - Good. Really good. Drinks somewhere between Rogue's Shakespeare Stout and North Coast's Old Rasputin. Why do I even bother putting impy stouts in the fridge? They are so much better once they hit room temp!

Bomber served slightly chilled in a goblet glass.

Oatmeal Yeti is nearly black in color with toffee colored head. It settles quickly and leaves no lacing behind.

Aroma is roasty and rich with hints of dark chocolate and coffee with a bit of cherry sweetness.

Flavor is very similar to other yetis but with a subtle taste of raisins. It's primarily roasty with big bitterness from dark malts and healthy dose of hops. It has some earthy qualities too.

Mouthfeel is enhanced with the addition of oatmeal which really makes it creamy and smooth.

Overall another excellent Yeti and one I'll definately get again. Right up there with espresso and oak aged. If only they would combine all three and make a breakfast stout!

Thick, pitch black pour. Completely devoid of anything light. The head doesn't immediately form, but when it doesn, it's brown and creamy. Moderate retention, fluffy creamy bubbles, with a chocolate lace left in its wake.

Dark, roasty malt, expresso, smoky scent fill the nose. Subsequent is the wave of caramel and faint dark fruits that fill the nose. No hop presence, but you can smell the bitterness from the roasted grains.

It's all vague malts up front, but as the beers wonders toward the throat, the gentle chocolate flavor evolves. The raisin gives some balance as the bittersweet chocolate intensifies the flavors in the finish.

For some a big beer, it's very easy to drink. The oatmeal provides plenty of creamy smoothe texture so you don't get a grainy feel like its brothers. Sweetness collides with bitterness throughout before a warming bitterness lingers til the next sip starts. Full bodied, you can feel thick viscosity. No carbonation so the palate is left sticky with a syrupiness.

Overall, it's a hell of a beer and exceptionally drinkable. Not something you chug, you could easily nurse this for an hour or more...and love every sip. Would make a great nightcap or dessert beer.

Pours ebony with 2 fingers of mocha colored head. Superior lacing & head retention

S: Dark fruit, roastyness & boozeyness

T: Roastyness, charcoal, cocoa & molasses up front. Chocolate, roastyness, dryness & carob as this warms, a little bit of iron & raisin. Finishes roasty, dry, with carob, figs & currants & a whisper of boozeyness & smokeyness. plus leafy hops

MF: Chewy, dryness & slight carbonation, nice smoothness

Super drinkability, don't like this much as some of the iterations, but damn tasty, just the same. Would certainly buy again, will revisit during the winter if possible

Pours a thick and viscous dark brown/black with a huge 4 finger chocolate brown head. So much pressure the cap blew off when I popped it.

Smells of sweet oatmeal and chocolate with a nice roasted malt backbone.

The oatmeal is still very bold, but the chocolate has succeeded a bit with age. The roasted malt nuttiness is still very prevalent.

Mouthfeel is very soft, what one could expect with oatmeal. Very pleasant.

Overall, this is a damn good variant of yeti and the year on this made it extra smooth. Very tasty.

The next addition to the Yeti series. Pours a pitch black color with a short dense brown head that settles into a light ring.

The aroma is sweet and roasty. Not overly roasty but has some woody notes. Some vanilla or caramel but its subtle. Light raisin notes. Mellow.

The taste is big on the roast but is quickly mellowed by what seems to be milk sugars. The roasted bitterness then quickly returns. Bitterness is a touch harsh. There is some caramel. Some powdery chocolate. The is a bright fruit sweetness which I assume is from the raisins.

The feel is moderate almost light. The carbonation is quite soft. Sweet but mostly bitter on the palate. I would think the oat would smooth out the bitterness but no. Slightly sticky in the finish.

A good stout. I thought I would like it more than I did. It's a tad thin.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into tulip glass.

A: Pours very dark black with two finger mocha chocolate colored head. Very nice sticky lacing.

S: Roasted malt, chocolate, oatmeal.

T: Bitter chocolate, roasted malts, raisins, chewy oatmeal.

M: Thick almost syrupy consistency. Nicely carbonated for a big stout. Very creamy finish.

O: Very nice imperial stout. The whole Yeti series never ceases to impress me.

Like all yeti's, pitch black and viscous, deep brown thin head. Nose is definitely a bit different on this one with a bit of that added raisin comes through, dark fruit, rum raisin. Some classic yeti scents come through as well earthy herbal hops and rich roasted barley.

Familiar yet with a bit more balance. Still has that wicked unruly yeti hop character but theres a nice balance sweet dark fruit character up front. Rich viscous chewy body. Sweet rum raisin, dark chocolate notes up front, herbal earthy bitterness through out. A monster of a beer without a touch of alcohol, rich bitterness, touch of sweetness. A welcome addition to the yeti line in my opinion. Different enough to stand amongst the others and just as good. Almost like a halfway tamed yeti. Pretty damn good, sweetness mellows out some of that rough abrasiveness.

A- pours pitch black in color with a small creamy dark brown head that retains nicely, eventually reducing to a film and ring around the edges, leaving some lacing behind

S- deep dark chocolate malt aromas up front with a hint of smoked wood & ash, dark berries, fig & raisin, smoked pork, oat bread, black strap molasses, toffee and a hint of coffee closes it out

T- creamy dark artisanal chocolate up front with hints of smoked wood & dried smoked pork, velvety oats mix with flavors of dark cherry, raisin and licorice. Caramelized sugar and caramel malt sweetness carries the mid-palate, leading to an oatmeal-raisin-cookie flavored finish with lingers of charred ash

M- heavy bodied with low carbonation leads to a chewy and creamy mouthfeel, and a velvety-silk, smooth, warming finish

O- the depth of this beer is impressive, while managing to keep all of the elements in balance, perhaps my favorite Yeti to date, a fine oatmeal stout

This poured with an obvious thickness and viscosity, a deep onyx opaqueness and a dark brown head. The head mounted with a creamy cloud of foam with very dense lacing.

The aroma is chocolatey, with roasted coffee, charred oats, marshmallows and Graham cracker. Almost like a S'More.

The flavors are roasted oats and dry malt Graham Cracker. Chocolate washes over mid palate with a charred ember and smoky finish.

The feel is velvety smooth with a decent fullness and a moderate thickness.

I have had Yeti and Oak Aged Yeti and find this to be my favorite.

Tap at Grapevine Ft. Mill. Thick black pour, straight brown head. Sticks to the glass quite a bit.

Aroma, a little subdued, roast malt, anise, dark chocolate.

Taste, more pronounced. Roast malts, dark chocolate, cocoa. Light plum or prune type dark fruit. Some herbal hop notes and anise bitterness. Just a slight coffee component.

Near full body, the carbonation just keeps it from being creamy. Coats well. Very little abv shown. This is pretty standard for all the Yeti series.

Didn't really get much of the oats, but this is still rock solid. Not a large off shoot from the standard in my opinion.

S: Oatmeal and sweet malts. Subdued but fruitier with lots of raisin.

T: This is excellent. Full stout flavors. Lots of sweet malts and raisin.

M: Smooth and creamy oatmeal body.

O: I think this might be my favorite Yeti yet.
