Although I was disappointed to see the huge store go away, then to see what they offered during christmas I was about to write them off. I went in to pick up some groceries and saw that the section was expanded quite a bit from the local micros like sam and harpoon. I was surprised to see alesmith, curieux, founders, good section for stone and dogfish 120. I talked to one of the sales persons and he said they would be adding Lost Abbey and Hoppin Frog which made me pretty happy. The imports were pretty decent. I grabbed a bernardus 12, some chouffe, and aventinus eisbock. Much improved from the bulk crap they had before the new year.

I have heard how the Table and Vine in Northampton has been greatly reduced in its location. I guess it was once where the Staples is now, and the store is technically in Big Y. Upon visiting, I was a little confused. First, its a big Big Y, so it took me awhile to find the wine section. But I almost concluded that that was it: just a wine section. I had to walk to the other end of the store to find where the beer is. Now the beer selection was decent; when I went I purchased a Magic Hat sampler. They mostly had some Western MA, Vermont brews (Opa-Opa, BBC, People's), along with other beers such as Stone, Brooklyn, Sam, and like I said Magic Hat. But it also had majority staples like Bud, Guinness etc. I was surprised by the friendly service: a gentlemen asked me what I was looking for and said if I needed any help I could just ask. But, not to be cynical, I am not sure if the man would know details about brews since he looked like he could have worked in any other department at the Big Y.

After being at the one in West Springfield, I must say the only advantage to this Northampton Table and Vine is you can food shop while getting beer. And sure it has some good local beers, but the experience felt like the times I have been home and gone up to New Hampshire to both buy food and some bee,r like Bud, at a Stop and Shop for my family I was visiting. Not exactly a beer purchaser's paradise. Highly recommend going to West Springfield Table and Vine.

Sorry guys, the time of the Table and Vine dominating the Northampton beer scene is over. A Staples has taken over the old site of the Vine. They have moved inside the Big Y in the plaza, they have about a cards deck worth of warm beer. They have a decent amount of cold space but they aren't using it to their advantage, I can't get anything there that I can't readily find anywhere else. Very disappointing. Clerk didn't know what a Rauchbier was, I know it's kind of an oddball brew, but they were a pillar of the local beer scene.

On the plus side the guy I was talking to was very pleasant. He said that they were going to be getting some Belgians in. For now though unless you really have a hankering for a Moretti, or a 5 dollar bomber of BBC, steer clear.

Stop #2 on the my western Mass beer trip, we had some time to kill before The Dirty Truth opened, so we went to look for some bottles. Located about three miles away from the center of Northampton on King St. In the same parking lot behind Big Y. The place is pretty big with a large specialty item selection in front and a sea of wine bottles as far as the eye can see of the right. The beer is located in three isles in the far left. Really a great selection, a lot of the same things you might find down at Town & Country. Lots of imports, regionals, CA, CO, and NE brews. I picked up a couple bottles of Lost Abbey and Alesmith. The staff was friendly but no one there at the time had much to offer as far as beer goes. I have been hearing that this place is going to close but it seemed fully stocked last night. I hope that it doesn't because it's a great place to get good beer when in the area.
Cheers!

There needs to be more places like this around. Huge interior with a supermarket-like atmosphere. They have wines and liquors, but who cares, we're all here for beer, right? They have about 2.5 aisles full of imports and craft beers, plus a back freezer wall with the usual swill and some cold crafts. Good cross section of American craft beers here, AleSmith, Thomas Hooker, Stone, Rogue, Avery, Southampton, etc. Imports were good as well with a nice selection of Belgian, Scottish, English, and German beers, plus more I'm sure. Prices were just right. The service was underwhelming, the lady at the register didn't seem to want to be there (although it was Black Friday). Still, a huge selection and good prices make for a great beer store.

This place is like the supermarket for beer and wine. It is absolutely mammoth. You walk in and you hit the gourmet food section. This part alone is bigger than most stores and they had a ton of great stuff for reasonable prices. I could have spent an hour and lots of money just in the food section alone.

They have a big wine section too but I didnt even bother looking at that. The beers--in addition to having a whole wall of cooolers in the back, they have 3 huge aisles with all kinds of stuff. Great selection of American craft beers, European imports, beers from everywhere really. They also do seem to put extra emphasis on New England beers.

The place is pretty clean and well maintained so it looks like they do a good job of maintaining freshness. I didnt see any dusty bottles and thats impressive in a place as big as this. One of the best beer stores I have ever been to. Excellent!!!

Have stopped here often when in town. Always had good deals on wine and decent single malt scotch selection...also Northampton has some great restaurants...a good brewpub...a new beer hall that Moan and Dove guys are opening ...can't wait !..and ...Spoleto !!... the best Italian-fusion restaurant ....du monde.? das welt ? di munde ? Si, molto bene !! ( hell, yeah as they say in these parts )
OK , back to T and V.
Beer selection is very good...especially if , like me , you live in Connecticut, where a lot of great Micros and Belgians avoid the Puritans. Always great to walk down the aisles of T and V and see Heavyweight , Stoudts...and other awesome brews that don't make it to the Nuthead state. Lots of Belgians, Germans, and American Micros ...sensory overload for me...my girlfriend bitchslaps me back on task....finding belgians that she likes. Rodenbach, Belgian Trippels..Biere d' Gardes, etc.
Staff is knowledgable, friendly and helpful...was encouraged on most recent trip to mix and match up sixes and fours of whatever by staff. beer aisle always contains beer geeks( in singles , four and sixes) who for the most part, are fun to connect with.
Got a sampler of Heavyweight, some Southern Tier , a Fantome Saison I'd been looking for ...and Berkshire Imperial Stout 22oz.!!
( Goooaaallll ! )

BBC Coffehouse Porter( whoop whoop ) Singles of a few that I hear about ...but never see in CT.
There's so much good stuff in Northampton, Table and Vine just adds to the day trip... head to the "Dirty Truth" when it opens or Northampton Brewery...and the best place to sip a single malt scotch...The Tunnel Bar...Awesome place!....OK, I'm a little off track.
I will always go back to T and V when in the area.

This is another large Liquor mega mart, sort of Home Depot for boozers. I visited on Christmas eve on the way to my sisters, no alcohol house/property. Life can cruel, but we make the best of it...Tons of high quality brew availabe in this clean and well put together joint. The good beer takes up both sides of a good sized aisle, macros availabe in the next aisle over and also a ton of cooler space, housing local bombers and growlers. Better then average selection of local/regional/national micros, respectable Belgians and what looked like the typical respectable selection of Brit/german imports. I was really looking for some Peoples Pint bottles and growlers.none to be had, oh well. This is easy off of route 91, well worth a visit, but not quite the selection of their sister store in W. Springfield

This place had a huge selection of wines, and a good variety down the beer aisle. Not as large an area dedicated to the brews as their sister store, Town & Country in West Springfield, but good stuff, and different.

Good selection of unusual foods as well, sausages and cheeses and other delicacies that would go really good with wine (or whatever your beverage of choice may be).

I found a good assortment of imports and micros here. Picked up my first keller bier here... been looking for a while. I was surprised to finally see Sam Adams Utopias... 2005 batch... on the shelf. $124.98 per bottle, and they had at least 8 bottles.

Didn't see anyone in the aisles to talk to about beer. The cashier was pretty friendly, but didn't know much about the beers I had chosen. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt though... SOMEONE must know something, to have such an interesting and varied selection.

I wish it was closer to me, I get to Town and Country so rarely though, and they're easily half the distance. But they had things I had not seen before, and that's always cool.

Big Superstore in a mall right alon I 91. Easy to get to. Huge wine selection dominates the store. Also basic wine foods such as cheese and bread a-plenty. The beer section may take up about 1/20th of the store, but as I said, this is a Superstore. Most beers available in MA are here. They even had Stone 7th out for sale, and a couple of Midnight Sun Belgian beers. Was slightly lacking in Belgian import selection, but other than that, plenty of micros to please anyone. Normal pricies as far as I could tell. Snagged $120 worth of stuff here. Maybe Spirit Haus in Amherst is better, but this is more convienient.

Situated on a side road right by the highway, in a strip-mall complex, it looks like a supermarket from the outside. We almost didn’t stop because we were late for check-in at our B&B and we weren’t sure what time Spirit Haus closed. I’m sure glad we did!

As big a selection as I’ve ever seen in the US (and beats Canada by a mile). A long row of fridges in the back, the real goodies were in the isles. An excellent variety of Americans, featuring Great divide, Stone, DFH, Ommegang, Allagash, and many more. Belgians include Blaugies, De Ranke, Cantillon, I got a 1999 Drie Fontainen for only a few dollars more than a fresher one, etc. Decent mix of Germans, too. Not too many extra-rare brews however, and many interesting Beers from the bigger micros were missing. My friend was sad to see that no Victory old horizontal was to be found. A couple of interesting looking ciders too, I was really tempted but wasn’t sure if the dudes at the border would count it as wine, and tax the crap out of me, so I let it go. I did manage to find a Beer that was past its expiry date, but I would say on the whole that quality was decent for a store of this size. As mentioned below, prices were slightly cheaper than at Spirit Haus. Service was okay, an employee asked us if we needed help, but the girl at checkout kept making mistakes, scanning, erasing and rescanning. My very untrusting girlfriend insisted that I look through the bill to make sure I didn’t pay for anything twice.

I only had time to scan quickly through the cheese and wine sections. They looked nice too.

This is a nice store. I live in Amherst, really close to Spirit Haus, so I really have no need to go here, which is why I hadn't been until today. But I thought I owed it a visit since it gets such high reviews, as I will likely be leaving the area in the fall. I'm glad I went. The wines and beers are segregated, on different sides of the store, and in between is a nice section of pricey cheese and other gourmet-ish items. I went straight for the beer, though if you're into wine there looked to be a huge ass selection. As for the beer, I wouldn't say that there was a better selection than Spirit Haus, or worse for that matter, but they both carry different items. Which is good. Between the two stores you could get just about anything you want. No Fantome, which is what I went there for, but maybe they just haven't got a new shipment in, because I see other people have mentioned that they carry it. There was a great selection of Cantillon, including some Lou Pepe and other rarer stuff that I haven't seen anywhere but the Moan and Dove. The other thing I like is that they have big and small bottles of a lot of their stuff, so you don't need to commit if you have no idea whether you like it or not. Also, everything was labeled really clearly with prices and everything seemed to be fresh. Prices I think had other places in the area beat by a dollar or so on average, very nice. You should definately make a point of checking it out if you're in the area.

This store is located north of the center of Northampton at 122 North King Street, not to be confused with 122 King Street, north, which is somewhat south of the store. The store is in a large shopping plaza with a "Big Y" and a Walmart. In any event, it is worth the search to find this store because the selection is fantastic.

A very large part of the store is devoted to wine, but there is still enough space for a very extensive beer selection, some on shelves and much in refrigerated cases. There were many Paper City and Berkshire Brewing Co. beers available cold. There were many other regionals (incl. Magic Hat HIPA bombers) and west coast beers (lots of Rogue, many from Stone, some Bear Republic, etc.). There was a very impressive selection from Europe as well, and I knew I was in the Shelton Brothers' backyard when I saw the complete line from Mahrs as well as many from Cantillon, Fantome, and others from Belgium.

The store also has a grocery section with a nice selection of cheeses and some meats.

The service was good. I was asked a couple of times if I needed help. You are allowed to buy single bottles from any six pack (though there is no discount for buying 6 loose bottles). And there is a restroom available to the public. :-)

The prices were reasonable, and were comparable to other stores in eastern Mass.

A very impressive store, and I was glad I stopped in, and I spent quite a while browsing.

Wow. What a lucky discovery as I was driving between New Hampshire and New York. Just off the interstate. If you are in the area definitely stop here. You will be glad you did. This store has a very large and wonderful selection of micro, imports, and craft beers. As mentioned by others, you can purchase singles. A very nice feature. Gotta love a place that actually has imports arranged by country of origin. If the beer can legally get into MA, you will most likely find it here at reasonable prices. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Enjoy.

Sister establishment to Town and Country in West Springfield. Quality of products is excellent. They have an extensive selection of Belgian offerings as well as many of the BA Top 50, including several Rogue and Stone offerings. This includes one of my favorite lines...Bear Republic. Quality is further enhanced by the ability to buy single bottles rarther than a full six or twelve pack. This has allowed me to try many brews to see if they are worth the extra $$$ to purchase six or twelve. Staff is unobstrusive, but friendly. The other half of the store is devoted to wine and the gamut runs from $4 a bottle to several hundreds per bottle.

Selection is extensive. They have a large variety of English and German offerings as well as brews from more exotic places. A large cooler houses singles and sixes of most of th evarieties on the shelves.

This is a must stop if you are in the area.

I had been going to Table and Vine for years, but now that I am a BA and have to drive several hours to get there, I thought I'd review it.

The beer selection has always been great. I credit them with my becoming a BA. All of the big craft beers that are distributed in MA make it here. That isn't to say that you need to search high and low for the one case from each brewery, like a great many beer stores you might find yourself in. The Table and Vine hits you over the head with LARGE displays devoted to both regional and national and international brewers. They have a wine rack devoted to Belgians in 750s with notes on each similar to the wine notes many people are familiar with. Nothing from BA however...

The service is amazing. Very attentive and helpful. The staff has always been willing to go out of their way to get you the beer you need in the volume you need it. The young man I spoke to today seemed very knowledgable about the beers on hand and appeciative that someone was buying "the good stuff."

I have never had a bad beer from here. Quality enough for me. Some of the beer might be a bit old and that is why they do not rate a perfect 5.

The Table and Vine also features wine, including a cellar for rarities, liquor and specialty foods. It is one stop shopping for the finer things in life.

First walking in this place, it's sort of an all purpose gourmet place, with all sorts of cheeses, chocolates, and other gourmet items. The layout is pretty classy. The liquor and beer are all on the left side of the store, with a pretty impressive beer selection making up an entire duoble sided aisle, plus coolers on the back wall. They stock a wide array of different american beers, located on the left, with cases and specials in the middle. The import beers are all on the right, organized by country. It's fairly easy to find what you want, and the staff is always willing to help, although I've stumped them on several occasions. I don't think they have an encompassing knowledge about their beers, but they try pretty hard.
I can always walk out of here with a few goodies, and the prices are very reasonable. A nice place to visit while you're in the area, particularly if you want to sample some local brews.

In my opinion, one of the two best beer stores in New England in terms of selection and quality. I've spent more than an hour on occasion just checking out all the items in the massive cooler and on the shelves. Definitely devoted to micros and imports. I talked with an employee before they expanded the store a number of years ago and he indicated the expansion was to enable a wider selection of "gourmet" (in his words) beer and wine. That's what actually happened as the space for good beer significantly increased and they have one of the largest wine areas I've seen. Prices are normal for the area with a number of specials each week. Wide selection of Wachusett, Paper City, Brooklyn, Ipswich, Berkshire, Buzzards Bay, Harpoon, Magic Hat, English ales and many other lines I particularly enjoy. One of the first MA stores to bring in Victory products and can generally be counted on to have most any product distributed in the area. If you're traveling on I-91 or anywhere else nearby, you won't regret making a side trip to this store. I personally travel 65 miles each way to get there.

Very wide selection though I thought it was lacking in the Belgians until I turned around a saw they used a commercial wine rack for all of the 750 ml bottles. Very few vintage as well as some locals I was surprised not to see there, perhaps they had them and they sell quickly? Other than that the selection is great, all of the new regional and craft breweries that have made it into MA are there. Hard to find anyone that works there and the cashiers did not have a clue about what beer is, the range of beers must have been upwards of 300+ if not more. There we some obscure or newly imported German lagers as well. The prices are very completive and some of the higher end beers were lower than I have seen at other places. If you are in the Noho-Amherst area you have to stop by.

This place is amazing. I have altered the route I take on my way to and from college because of this store. I have not yet spent less than 45 minutes wandering around trying to check everything out. Without self-control you could easily spend over an hour, or enough money to ensure that you are eating rice and beans with your beer for the next several months.

The store is very large, open, clean, classy, and well organized and presented. The main emphasis of the store is on wine. As a buffer between the wine area and the rest of the store there are a few isles with a wide variety of gourmet foods, mostly meats and cheeses. On the other side of the gourmet section is all the beer and liquor.

The beer selection is amazing. They have all the international beer organized by country. In my opinion two of the international highlights are the good selection of small traditional English ales such as Bluebird Bitter, and Black Sheep Ale. The other highlight is the wine style rack of Belgian ale. I saw many fine looking beers there that I have never seen before. The American microbrew selection is also exceptional. They have a great variety of all the big names you might be looking for and more. They also have the best variety of New England microbrews I have seen.

The staff was friendly and helpful. Turnover seems to be pretty good, I?ve seen some dusty bottles, and some freshness dates that were almost past, but I haven?t seen any beers that were past their date. I have no complaints with anything I?ve purchased, which is several cases worth of different beers.

They claim to have over 300 different varieties of beer, and I believe it. If you are in the area, stop by and pick something up.

I don't go there very often because it is too easy for me to blow my budget; the beer selection is fantastic, the wine selection is fantastic, and even the gourmet food is tempting, despite the prices.
