Dark brown, let's call it burnt umber with amber edges. Thin cap of foam in the Troubadour tulip and virtually no lacing, but it swirls up with each sip. Rich and quite sweet. A touch of licorice and for some reason I taste coconut. Lots of roasted malt flavors but not much burnt grain.
Winey mouthfeel and a silky sensation that makes me think of oat beers. While this is not the most sexy big stout, it's a bargain and perfectly drinkable when you're in the mood for a strong tipple. From the 12 oz bottle purchased in a four-pack at Haggen Market in Burlington.

A 12 ounce draft pour into a tulip glass at a tap house.
Look- Black, opaque, medium brown very frothy head, above average head retention and lacing.
Smell- Toasted malt, oak, chocolate, between weak and medium strength of scent.
Taste- Toasted malt, oak, slight chocolate, slight coffee, medium strength of flavor.
Feel- Between medium and full body, average carbonation, moderately bitter, moderately creamy.
Overall- Black and opaque with above average head retention and lacing. Bouquet was between weak and medium strength with notes of toasted malt and oak. Flavor was predominantly toasted malt with slight notes of oak, coffee and chocolate. Feel was between medium and full body with moderate creaminess and bitterness. Overall this beer was enjoyable, but the lack of flavors and smells other than toasted malt left this beer one dimensional and plain.

L: Black as pitch with a reddish brown fringe. A thin beige cap leaves spotty lacing.
S: Smells of a bitter, slightly tannic oatmeal stout with oak to boot. Salivating.
T: This honestly tastes like my other favorite non-barrel-aged stout: Fremont’s Dark Star, except the addition of oak is an improvement.
F: Medium not overbearing weight - right-sized carbonation. Smooth yet bitter.
O: Ha! $2.70 you gotta be kidding! Incredible stout.

Pours a really dark brown..with a gorgeous creamy tan head.
Aromas..oaken, roasted nuts, dark sea salt chocolate and french brewed coffee.
Taste is beautiful all of the above plus a luxuriant creaminess...slightly dry ashy finish..just great.
Great mouth feel for the style..creamy. smooth yet a great dry finish that invites another sip..and another.
a very nice Imperial..and not too strong!

Schooner poured at Levitate.
Pours black with a small head. Medium carbonation. Smell is black licorice and heavily roasted malts. Taste is similar, but less aggressive. More booze, heavy roast at the forefront. Mouthfeel is surprisingly light, but gets the salivary system going. Overall, pretty good.

On tap, pours completely black. Smell is malty and coffee. Taste is coffee and malts, a touch of smokiness. I also get a lingering flavor of caramel, which balances out the strong dark flavors. I like my stouts pretty thick, this one isn't very thick but still quite enjoyable.

Another from the "I can't believe I haven't reviewed this one yet" files. Lord knows I've drank enough of these puppies. 12oz bottle, bottled 11/11/16, poured into 12oz goblet. Poured a solid black color, with just a thin cap of tan head that dissipated immediately, and left no lacing.
The aroma is full of deep, rich malts, a bit of roast, and a touch of oak.
Very similar on the tongue, just magnified. Full malts, just enough roast to keep it interesting, and a deft touch of the oak.
The body, while reasonably full, was still a touch lighter than I prefer.
Drinkability (as is predictable from me) is amazing, I could, and have, consume several of these in a row. Overall, as you would expect from a review of one of my favorite stouts, I see this as a must-try if you see it. Worth seeking out.

Very dark brown, near black. Thick, creamy, persistent, dark tan head that leaves a near solid curtain of lace. Aroma is rich and roasty with perhaps a hint of licorice. Taste has a little sweet toffee, but the bitter dark roast dominates, in a good way. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. The ABV is well hidden with only mild warming.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a tulip.
Appearance: entirely, completely black with a finger of creamy dark-tan foam that cascades almost like it was on nitro. Wonderful.
Smell: rich, roasty, and chocolatey, with a little bit of yeast thrown in the mix. Not hugely multidimensional, but still very enticing indeed.
Taste: lots of toffee and caramel up front, although the sweetness is mostly balanced by the chocolatey roast and bitterness. There's a little bit of a vegetal finish, but this is a very good sweet stout.
Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a great level of carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: due to its sweetness and ABV, it's not drinkable like a session beer, but it is a very tasty treat that works very well as a dessert beer.
