At 7.5% ABV, this imperial stout was the strongest of nine ales on Skookum's menu during my first visit. It is a slick, opaque ale with low suds whose essence is of bitter chocolate with a dry, coffee finish. The aroma was suggestive of sherry and seemed misplaced here. The body was relatively thin but delightfully smooth.

Not an overbold ale, but smooth and drinkable with rounded contours. Tastes like a cigar in the best sense of it. I have no knowledge of what "Hooskal" means.

Poured cola black with a small finger of dark mocha head. Mild aroma of coffee, licorice, and dark cocoa.

Moderate carbonation and an extremely light, almost thin mouthfeel. Slightly bitter cocoa up front followed by caramel and licorice. Roasty coffee finish with some traces of hops as well.

It's almost baffling how a 7.5% brew with this much flavor can have such a lightness to it -- this is one RIS that would be easy to down by the pint.

A: Poured a jet black color with good carbonation and a brown head. Looking good

S: Licrice, cofee, roasted malt, cocoa

T: More roasted notes, coffee and cocoa are light, booze sting and perhaps licorice

M: Medium bodied, booze feel, not as heart as I woould want

D: Abover average, not bad and worth a try

Served in Imperial pint glass. Poured pure black, with about 3/4 inch of rich, creamy head that had good retention and light lacing.

The aroma was mostly deep, rich alts, with just a whisper of hops in the background. The flavors were grains, malt with a a bit of a tang at the end and a clean finish.

The body was, expectedly, full and smooth and, again, a bit of sharpness on the finish. Drinkability was very good, smooth and easy going down.

Overall, a decent example of the style. Not the greatest or very exciting, but certainly worth a shot if you see it.
