Pours a deep, opaque, midnight-black, with a dense milk chocolate colored head. Brewed with a large percentage of roasted and chocolate malts for depth and complexity. Flavors are reminiscent of dark fruits, chocolate, and sandalwood, making Prince Myshkin perfect for dessert or a dangerously smooth nightcap. "But who's Prince Myshkin," you may be wondering? He's the Idiot-Sauvant from Dostoyevsky's novel, The Idiot, who the Russian writer described as "entirely positive... with an absolutely beautiful nature".

An attempt to empty a pint can into a clear glass Imperial pint mug ended in failure. This is just too densely foamy to get it all in. The liquid is as black as brown can get and the head, which is now amazingly two layered is a light tan. This was an unique pour. The nose gets heartily roasted malt and some dark chocolate. Not surprisingly, there's abundant glass lacing. It's almost as smooth as it looks like it should be, yet there's nothing subtle about the taste. This is one bold tasting stout, even for an Imperial Stout. The rich sweetness of the roasted malt quickly gives way to an almost sharp blast of black licorice flavor, without the customary sweetening. The bitterness is bold but not overwhelming and fades quickly enough at the finish to make it a pleasurable heavy hitter.

Dock Street Brewery & Restaurant "Prince Myshkin Russian Imperial Stout"
on tap @ The 19th Annual Manayunk Craft Beer Festival
Notes: Black body beneath a tan head. From above it looks like an espresso. Aroma of bittersweet dark chocolate and oily dark roasted coffee beans. The flavor is like a dark bittersweet chocolate assault! The roastiness is there as well but it's not as strong as the nose might have suggested. Some sweetish grainy malt is at it's center, holding it together, and some fruitiness around the edges rounds it out with notes of apple, dark berry, and raisin. It's solidly bitter but not bold. The alcohol makes its presence known but doesn't stand out although there is a touch of heat in the dry, ashen, and oaky finish. Full and creamy in the mouth. Impressive!

10/18/16. Powerful. Redolent of booze, prunes, scorched bread, & dirt. The sort of bitter burn you want to cozy right up to. Doesn't disappoint.

Got this one from Speedyfire. Cheers man!
From a 750 into a snifter.
APPEARANCE: Pours out thick black and yields a small, bubbly, medium looking tan head that quickly fades to a small, bubbly wisp. Pitch black body with no carbonation evident. A splotchy wisp and bubbly ring remain leaving some falling dots of lacing down the glass. A bit flat by the end, but really black and starts out alright.
SMELL: Light roasted notes, dark chocolate, coffee, with lots of oak, vanilla and light coconut on the nose. Big aromas. Not much wine per se, but lots of other good stuff. Really nice.
TASTE: The wine and oak are prevalent up front, with caramel sweetness and some roasted notes to go with the wine at the swallow. Bold and lingering aftertaste of oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, some bitter coffee and light wine notes. A touch of alcohol as well. More wine than the nose had led on and the stout comes out nicely after the swallow. Lots of good stout flavor; good base beer for sure.
PALATE: Medium-full body with almost no carbonation. Silky slick on the palate, goes down silky and finishes sticky on the palate. No heat. Quite silky slick, and ends up basically flat by the half way point. Needs some more carbonation.
OVERALL: Very nice beer. The oak and stout work great together and the wine plays a restrained role in the flavor profile, lending just enough to make it interesting. Very flavorful and wonderfully balanced. The lack of carbonation held it back a bit, as a touch more bubbles would make it look and feel better, as well as carry the flavor profile a bit more. Nevertheless, this was well worth the wait. Cheers Speedy!
