i dont know if this is different from their regular rye ipa (never had it) but it is listed as fresh hop rye. i do know this was delicious, maybe even a little better than my favorite fresh hop port high tide, tasted side by side tuesday night.

pretty darkish amber and clear. big fresh hop blast aroma and taste, bitter grapefruit noted with that distinct simcoe hop flavor. nicely mated and very drinkable. i like the bitter, dry finish. notes of spice from the rye, not like hop rod rye but still noticeable.

would certainly get this again.

Rye IPA is by far my favorite beer from Dock Street. The hops in this IPA really sings, piney, citrusy and hearty. The rye adds an acuity and acidity that perfectly accentuates the grapefruit and resinous hops, the mouthfeel is chewy and carbonation is very pleasant

Dock Street- Rye IPA

A- Deep golden copper orange with a thick foamy head Big ringed lacing.
S- Heavy caramel malt, oily pine hops and rye.
T- Heavy rye, molasses, caramel malt, black licorice, and thick earthy hops.
M- Huge bitter hops ur front with a very creamy buttery malt finish.

Overall- Quite tasty. The bitterness is a bit overpowering but the creamy malt makes up for it.

A huge thanks to Mr Holland for sending me this growler. I had this one on my wants for over a year, why you ask, on recommednation from another fine BA that it was a smooth mellow IPA that I had to try, and try I did. Served cold and poured into multiple pint glasses, this one was consumed on 04/15/2009.

The pour was very nice, light pale amber with a small light head of white that caem up to maybe a half an inch on the sides of the glass, before settling down into a broken crown. The aroma was very well balanced. Lots of bready malts here that were tied in with a nice light piney hop and a touch of light spice from the rye. The flavor was a carbon copy of this. Smooth, mellow, very well balanced and super drinkable. Started out with that nice clean feel and really well balanced profile. Nice overall presentation here as the hops were played on very well with light notes of rye and biscuit like malt flavor. The growler was easily demolished during the night.

Overall this was a very very drinkable and sessionable IPA and I am very glad I was finally able to track it down!

Not a bad IPA by any means, but the rye should have given it just a bit more bite. Overall, the general impression was a bit darker than ususal mid-range IPA. The level of hopping was nicely done and did not overwhelm the malt - but I was looking for just a bit more distinction. Enjoyable but not particulary memorable.

Thanks to axilla for sharing the growler...and roan for the second opportunity...
Appears a semi transparent light orange with a small white cap that slowly fades out. Spotty lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of hoppy citrus, apricot, grapefruit, and apple.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with the spicey citrus, bitter, yeasty, graininess coming through.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, grainy, bitter, fruity, and zesty.

Served in a nonic pint glass. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.

Appearance: As served the beer is clear dark golden/orange color with a ½" white head that persists quite well and leaves nice thick lacing patterns in rings and sheets. Though out most of the beer there are speckles and patches of lacing clinging to the sides of the glass.

Smell: The aroma has a nice floral citric character with some traces of rye bread mingling in with malt and the hops.

Taste: The flavors are crisp and fresh with some floral citrus and some pine showing. The sweetness from the malt backbone blends in nicely to balance but never overwhelm the hops. The rye malt has its influence with a noticeable "rye bread" contribution to the flavors of the malt.

Mouthfeel: The mouth feel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. The finish is relatively long and the hop bitterness accompanied by dryness persists to the end.

Drinkability: I thoroughly enjoyed this beer. Sipping led to more sipping and I was ready to order another when it was finished. I will revisit this one again next time I have the chance. It would be easy to drink a few of these.

Poured a hazy amber color with a thick white heading.Heading does stick around for a little while and some good lacing. Smell is heavily malty with toasted and a dry rye aroma.Taste is not much different. A heavy maltiness with a solid almost even backing of rye malts. Slight twinge of bitter hoppiness that is left lingering on the palate for a while. An awesome spiciness to go along for the ride as well. Slight buttery slickness left in the mouth as well. Medium bodied with great retention.

This is a favorite of mine.
