A: beautiful gold with a nice white head
S: fruity and spicy with just a hint of hops smell. Stronger smell than I'm used to in a saison.
T: lots of apple and orange and lemon with a subtle hoppy finish. Definitely not as hoppy as some other saisons. Good balance.
M: carbonation, no booziness, good tingles, but very smooth. Smooth like a witbier really, but a little stronger.
Perhaps a little overpriced for what it is but overall it's a delightful local beer that all Philadelphians should try some summer. Or trade it to your friends!

750ml bottle #17 of 180 picked up at the brewery and poured into a matching Dock Street cervoise. The brew appears a clouded orange almost like apple juice more than beer. 4 fingers worth of yellowish stained froth appear across the surface composed of rather large bubbles. As the cap fades, it leaves fingers and webby patterns of lace sticking all over the glass.
The aroma is quite inviting with a tangy fruit component that makes me think this might be sour. It has a familiarity about it even though I have never had this beer. It smells of melons, pineapple, oranges....yes most certainly oranges with a mixture of hoppy aromatics and fruity esters. As the beer rests inside my glass, a sweetness emerges almost like vanilla/caramel. When blended with the essence of orange and fruit, it has a striking resemblance to the aromatics of something like cream sickle which while really enjoyable is strange for a saison. As the brew warms up, there is a bit of funky aspect going on with some yogurt notes and cheese.
The flavor of this brew reiterates plenty of what the aromatics offer. It has quite a bit of fruity character blending with strong alcohol esters. Fruits like pineapple, mango and oranges along with their perceived bitterness that is mildly rindy and herbal is among the most prominent flavor. There is quite a bit of residual sugar here with almost a vanilla and caramel aspect that is not too fitting for the saison style. The aftertaste brings out more solvent alcohol and herbal appeal from the hops. As it goes beyond ideal temperature, a bit of cheesy funk and almost yogurt character emerges.
This is a medium creamy bodied brew which is atypical for the style but I guess is why this is called a super or imperial saison. There are a whole bunch of enjoyable things going on in the aroma that I really dug but unfortunately, it didnt totally transpire into the flavor. It is good mind you, but not really what I was expecting for a saison. I would have no reservation firing into another bottle of this if it was available to me. But at only 180 bottles made... yeah right.

750mL bottle, poured into a tulip
A light haze falls over the golden copper body. The paper white cap rises a little over a finger, and falls quickly, leaving some dots of lace along the way. Notes of tropical fruit, earth, and ethanol. Pineapple, kiwi, and apricot lend a sweet, juicy fruit aroma with some spicy, earthy hops underneath. Some ethanol is present. On the palate, some spice hits first, but quickly gives way to notes of pineapple, kiwi, and apricot. The finish is sweet and boozy, a little unwieldy. Medium body, prickly, sweet, and boozy. Everything was good up until the finish. Overall, this is a nice saison, with some unique elements, but the feel is a little too prickly and the booze is prominent. Good saison, better than most.

Beautiful amber in the Petrus tall tulip. A nice foamy cap and champagne bubbles. Sudsy and well carbonated in the mouth. All four of the limited brews I've had from Dock Street have had great creamy carbonation.
Bacon! Besides salty and savory, this beer has the umame flavor, the meaty taste. It's on the bitter side with massive amounts of the yeasty, scratchy Belgian stuff. I forgot about the alcohol until I tried to focus across the room. Rich and powerful, big bitter and yeasty taste, lots of edgy flavors. Lovely mouth-filling sudsiness. Long aftertaste of pears, dry cider, and a whiff of bacon. Rye toast with apricot jam and Scotch whiskey flavored marmalade.
Purchased at the brewpub in west Philly. The 22 oz Belgian-style bottle with a crown cap, thank goodness. These guys are a new addition to my personal Pantheon of best brewers. One of my top beer tastings this year.

On tap at Dock Street. Served in a tulip.
Pours a cloudy light copper color with a thin white head and a few spots of lacing on the way down. The nose carries some spice and fruit plus a fair amount of residual sweetness.
The flavor is fairly fruity with some tropical and stone-fruit notes, but also packs quite a bit of residual sweetness. That normally wouldn't be very surprising for a beer of this size, but with a saison, I really would have liked something to take that down a few notches.
Medium body with some sweetness through the finish and a light bitterness.
Just okay, as the sweetness really overtook the rest of the beer for me.
