On-tap at the brewpub, served in a pint glass
The body sits a golden yellow with a touch of cloudiness and orange through the core. A fluffy bone white cap sat at about two fingers and fell slowly in a raindrop fashion. Good clinging lace and huge sip marks.
The nose is a little muted. Heavy dose of Maris Otter lends a lightly undercooked/toasted biscuit nose. A little bit of sweetness from the malt counterbalanced by some piney, earthy, floral hops. Rye seems a little hidden, but lends some nice dry, spicy notes.
The centennial hops break through a little more in the flavor profile. Some fresh flowers, earth and pine greet you first. Spicy, earthy rye mixes with some lightly sweet malt through the middle. The rye carries through to a mild hoppy finish. A dose of bitterness and spicy, dry rye lingers.
This guy has a big, chewy body with a smooth, creamy feel. Carbonation is on point. A little fatter for the style, but it works.
This is a nice APA. A bit of a break from the lighter, cleaner versions that have been popping up. The rye is a nice compliment to the malt bill and hop selection. Good marriage.
