This is an outstanding brewery with a lovely, comfortable old pub attached. It's attractive and cozy, clearly a place catering mostly to locals but friendly and with good service. The beers are excellent and they sell a range of their beers by the bottle, as well as glasses. Excellent cask ales. Although they have only a small bar with a few casks, they take great care with the beer and they have the full range in bottles to go. I'll definitely stop here any time I'm in the area.

My inaugural visit here was after the Burton-on-Trent Beer Festival in 1988 organized by the local CAMRA Branch. Since then, a Brewery Trip here with my own local CAMRA Branch after being shown around by one of the founders, Bruce Wilkinson, sometime in the early 90s & numerous other visits to the Burton Beer Festivals over the years- always ended up with a beer in here.
A small Bar, dating from the 17th Century, it sits affront the actual Brewery which is located down the side yard behind the Pub. It still retains an authentic interior, even after being refurbished a few times. A look at the exterior bowed walls & the interior décor, gives the place a real "Ale House" feel. Comprised of two small rooms, with a smaller central bar that serves both of them, it can be very difficult to get into this Pub at times, let alone get served. Still, your persistence will be rewarded.
The front room has decorated bare walls, covered with many of the Breweries Awards. Small creaking posterior polished untreated wooden church style pews form the furniture. You can see through to the back room from here, which has a little more space & traditional fittings. The walls are covered in wood paneling & the oak beams & furniture are straight from Victorian England. The Gents Toilets are in an outside building near the Brewery coincidence?!
On my last visit the Bridge Inn was serving 5 of its own beers, & (Frederic) Robinsons Best Bitter as the one Guest. The Bridge beers were all in excellent condition, especially the Bridge Bitter & Robinsons. It also serves an excellent selection of Single Malts & a wide range of Country Fruit Wines
I have been here maybe 9 or 10 times over the years, & the hospitality/service is difficult to mark. At times, it is the friendliest Pub you could imagine, as indeed it was after our Brewery tour. At others, it is a clique ridden den of inequity where getting served in between the locals is like extracting blood from a stone, as it was on my very last visit. That said, the pub is very compact & the Bar even smaller, so this is to be partially expected. But I am a patient man & seeing regulars getting served ahead of those who have been waiting longer is really annoying at the best of times not a good advert for the Brewery. Maybe this is why they have invested in 2 other Pubs in the area. I'll settle on a 3.0 for Service +/- 2!!
If you get to Burton-on-Trent though, you should come to see where it all started, some 21 years ago.
