Notes/Commercial Description:
Moa St Josephs is brewed in the traditional style of a classic Belgian Tripel. Strong spice and clove characters create complex flavours and aromas which are heightened by its extended bottle conditioning, with a combination of malt and candy sugars complimenting the high alcohol content produced by the Belgian ale yeast. Best served at 8°C in a goblet after gently rolling the bottle to distribute the sediment signature.

Chilled 375ml green glass bottle poured into a tulip glass.

Pours with a thick large head that fades away slow leaving a lot of sticky lacing. Body is a dull and hazy and a little on the dark side of a gold spectrum.

Nose is dominated by a dulled down clove and little else. There are citrus and banana scents available however you really need to dig it out and grade through the clove to find it.

The taste is similar to the aroma, a little lost. There are citrus fruits and pears but they are a little over weighed by the pepper spice and alcohol finish.

The beer is well carbonated and is very similar to the likes of Duvel and La Chouffe, however it lacks that certain mojo evident in those offerings.

The label notes this Tripel is bottle fermented yet it is produced in a translucent green (think heineken) glass bottle which some may consider to be an unusual choice.

smooth tripel. not a super bite or complexity but really easy drinking. wish to have something like this as a GO TO but its pricey at 19.99 for a 4 pack, 6 bucks for a single. really smooth, all tripel necessary characteristics. mellower than la Fin or some of the other common tripels

Partly cloudy, deep gold colored body sporting a thick, creamy, sticky, white head. Bread and yeast aroma with some ripe apricot smell. Bread, honey, esters, and heavy sugar-like flavors. Heavy bodied; chewy; rich and creamy mouthfeel.

I barely got the cage untwisted when the cork blew and scared the dog, but very little beer was lost and that's a good thing. The flavors are dense and intriguing with excellent malt grain twists and turns. I don't know about the BA description of tripels being light bodied; this beer has a heavy-duty feel to it yet the thick, rich flavors and aromas go hand-in-hand with the mouthfeel. For what it's worth, a really tasty, big bodied ale...
