Notes/Commercial Description:
Moa Breakfast Beer is a blend of premium wheat malt, floral Nelson hops and cherries. A very refreshing and fruity lager specifically designed as a European-style breakfast beer but more commonly enjoyed as a mid-afternoon beverage here in New Zealand. Although not always.

Pours pale yellow with a fizzy white head. No real lace, but a ring clinging to the glass.

Big artificial cherry lifesaver nose. Some mild malt and herbal notes.

Some cherry flavor, which is not actually sweet, but more the essence, although it is a bit artificial. Pushed aside by bitterness of some hops. Some grain husk and wheat malt help this one along. I'd like it if the cherry was a bit more -- real. Not horrible by any means, and they balanced it.

Lighter bodied. Good carbonation. Palate clears well.

Overall, ok. Cherry is a bit off-putting, but by no means cloying or overboard. They give you what is advertised.

A: Pale golden with a nice white head.

S: Bursting with fresh cherries. I can smell this from yards away.

T: Begins with the cherries but not as much as I expected from the nose. Moves on a slightly floral citrusy hop profile certainly from the nelson hops. Also grainy slightly bitter. The end goes back to the cherries.

M: Light bodies and pretty crisp.

O: Tough to judge. I do not like fruit beers usually. As a beer its slightly above average, for a fruit beer, probably the best I've had. Much more complex than your average fruit beer that will boast a fake syrupy cough medicine taste.

This pours a near perfect golden color that is mildly cloudy with a thin white head and virtually no lacing down the glass. But that is not a bad thing with this beer.

The nose ins wonderfully complex and fruity with strong malt and floral notes. The hops are subtle to the nose.

The taste is even more complex. No wear near as fruity as I expected with a nicely hopped flavor that is perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the malt.

The mouth feel is richer than I expected and is close to perfect as well.

Overall this is excellent and will be drunk by me again for certain.

Fruitness on the nose is overpowered by a yeasty note. Flavor does much more for this beer than the aroma and the appearance (poured 3" large bubbles of head into a tulip glass), and has a combination of citrus, banana, and green apple flavors. Was happy to get this at my local packie.

Poured a light lemon color with a 4 finger head in a pilsner glass- as suggested by the brewer.

Cherries wafting from the bottle and more so from the glass. Some lemon aroma, very floral- the Nelson hops.

Mouth feel- lightly carbonated- tingling- which would make this beer a good choice at a meal.

Taste- strong cherries with a wine-like quality. The brewer is from a vintner family and the wine is melded into the overall taste.

Overall- wonderful beer. From the reviews- it has its fans, and its detractors. The beer has a singular quality, as do other beers from this brewery. Perhaps the beer was brewed different recently because the earlier reviews from past years are not as favorable as recent reviews.

A special beer- especially if you like fruit beers. A good choice when you want a beer with character but not too strong in ABV.

Serve cold in a tall pilsner glass
