Notes/Commercial Description:
Moa Breakfast Beer is a blend of premium wheat malt, floral Nelson hops and cherries. A very refreshing and fruity lager specifically designed as a European-style breakfast beer but more commonly enjoyed as a mid-afternoon beverage here in New Zealand. Although not always.

Poured from 375mL corked & caged bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: lightly hazy light-golden hue with a strong effervescence and a thin layer of fizzy white foam. I love the strength of the carbonation in these Moa beers.

Smell: sweet, floral, fruity aroma with a hint of tartness. Cherry character is there, but it is interesting; not particularly deep, but kind of candylike. Reminds me a bit of smartees. Maybe not the best thing in the world, but I like the bit of cherry idea that is present.

Taste: decent malt backbone with a sweet, aspartame-like flavor. Cherry character seems toned down from the aroma, but is still present. Unfortunately, there's quite a bit of artificial-ness here. It's not terrible, but it just doesn't really work for me.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a mammoth carbonation and a bodacious creaminess. Great.

Overall: an interesting beer with some qualities I don't exactly love. As always with cherry beers though, I tend to give this one the benefit of the doubt.

This is a cherry wheat beer and it deserves the label declaration of Belgian Style.

Poured into a tulip glass, the fine head quickly dissapated. Being color blind I have a bit of trouble with appearance but is is pale clear and almost champagne like.

The nose is clearly cherry and comes on very strong and stay very noticeable thru the whole glass.
The mouth is very light. maybe the lightest I've had in a while.

The finish brings back the cherries and some acidity. I'm pleasantly surprise athe rekatively low gravity of this beer, which is a good thing. Kind of resembles a Kriek is characteristics without the color.

Wheat beer on tap at Engine 15. Fruity aroma, getting orange and apples (not cherries - perhaps this is a different batch?). Hoppy like an IPA. Decent drinkability.
If not for the fruit tea and wheat beer match, but just an IPA this would have worked. Maybe would be interesting cask without as much hops, going the other way.

Aroma: cherries. It really isn’t subtle here!

Appearance: beautiful golden yellow. Head collapses to a thin lacing.

Taste: stunning. Very rich and fruity, but not sweet. No strong after taste - it drops its flavour and goes, leaving just a faint hint of cherry fruitiness at the back of the mouth. Very quaffable!

Pours pale gold with a large, fading head.
Nose shows bubblegum, cherries, floral notes, banana, lollies, roses. Seems pretty artificial though.
Similar flavours; bubblegum, cherries, musk sticks. Too artificial and sweet.
Way too much carbonation.
Definitely interesting but a bit cloying.

12.7oz bottle into tulip.

very pale straw colored with good bubbling throughout, but no head support. champagne like. More pale than a duvel, less head too, but along the same lines

fruity, estery yeast and cherries. a tad cough syrupy, an easy comparison. doesn't smell entirely legit.

weird. front of palate is very belgian yeasty, then light cough syrup *ugh*, banana, bitterness. dry finish.

high carbonation, pretty light body. prickly.

All in all, wanted to like this beer. Eww. Tastes like fake cherries. Tastes like a slightly more belgiany, more effervescent mic ultra fruit beer. Which is bad. Especially at this price range.

(Found lost notes)

Moa Breakfast Ale, a Belgian-style wheat ale from New Zealand. 5.5% ABV.

Agh! Very active pop! And, a whiff of tartness hit me right away.

Appearance: Three fingers+ of head. Slow, pillowy dissolve. Hazy yellow with a slight green tinge, and some thin wisps.

Smell: Slight wheat smell, with a little musty apple.

Taste/Mouthfeel: A weird, sharp tartness on the tongue. Slight apple seed and peach skin bitternesses. Very drinkable, but not a great taste to it. (Rating: Pretty good)
