Amber beer inspired by the Belgian Abbey tradition but produced with special English and Scottish malts addition. Strong and full-bodied, with persistent caramel and chestnut honey's scents, it is at the same time an unexpectedly easy to drink ale. Ideal with red meats and game, roasted meat, stews. or to accompany chestnut flour based dishes, or mushrooms.
IBU: 18; EBC: 52
The name: This beer is dedicated to the memory of the composer Giacomo Puccini, a Luccan like ourselves. Momus harks to the Cafè Momus in Paris, where the second act of La Bohème is placed.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #59 (December 2011):
LOOK: Murky brown, tiny bubbles
SMELL: Ripe figs, blood oranges, bitter coriander, soft allspice
TASTE: Milk chocolate, dark fruit, touch of caramel, chicory, very faint coriander, fermented honey, mild warming booziness, mildly cloying
Unfiltered, bottle conditioned and very well balanced—makes for a highly complex and interesting beer, one that sparks conversation and awakens the palate without destroying it. However, the sweetness does get a bit cloying after a while. Worth a try. Share with friends.

I was a bit worried on this one, "best by" date was around July 2016, but as a Dark Ale / "Scotch Ale", it was still good. L: Brown color. S: Malty, grains, bready. T: Definitely tasted better than the "malt bomb" aroma. F: Medium body. O: A decent scotch ale, well balanced, finish was pleasant, and not overpowering.

my first beer from these guys, purchased at a really fair price over at grapevine, a pretty epic store if you arent hip to it. hazy and sediment laden soft reddish brown color, not much head, murky, not stagnant but mellow for sure. it smells cool, a mix of sort of wild and sort of belgian yeasts, very italian, with a backbone of decaying molasses and brown sugar and plum and date flavored malt, layered but integrated too. others have mentioned a spoiled and wet cardboard thing, i dont get that at all, raisins instead, but real dry too. this seems hot on the alcohol for what it is, like it could be 9% abv pretty easily. its distinct like all the italian stuff is, but this would have been one to try fresh for sure, who knows how different it would be. not as compelling as i wished it would be, but there is a nice malty base thats trying to hold up, and a yeast that makes this worth it. somewhere in the low B range, but a fresher sample might prove it to be better. i think they could have gone a little darker on the malt, but i like the beer well enough all things considered. i have never had or even seen a beer from these guys in the market, so given my love for the random italian stuff, this was a fun bottle to crack.

P: Dark amber, clear (careful), not much beige head but decent lacing.
A: Orange, caramel, raisin,
T: Caramel, rich malt, raisin, prune, delicate sweetness, mildly spicey with a hint of chocolate.
M: Full body, champagne like carbonation, tart and delicately bitter.
O: My second Bruton. Pretty darned impressed. I've read recently that Italy has been a leader in craft brewing. No doubt.

brentk56's description for this beer is spot on.
It is a good beer, just a tad sweet to my taste. I would not say that this is a beer that I will go out of my way to grab again... however, i am not pissed at having tried it either :)
3.5 - 3.75 is just for this beer.... but in the type, there are SO many choices to try that you will forget this beer eventually.

Appearance: Starts out as a gusher but by the time the beer hits the glass the foaming action proves short-lived and the mahogany liquid winds up being capped by a rocky head that fades to a ringlet; loads of spotty lacing lingers on the side of the glass, however
Smell: An interesting fruit medley of plum, strawberry and dried fruit with a treacly tone underneath
Taste: Fruity, with the plum and strawberry tones predominate and dried fruit (apple, pear, dates and banana) underneath; in the middle, the treacle and spices grow, bringing cinnamon and nutmeg; a touch of wheat bread in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with low carbonation
Overall: An interesting but ultimately flawed beer (perhaps due to the way it was handled as I bought it 18 months after it was bottled); I particularly liked the flavor profile but the mouthfeel left something to be desired
