Light, pallid and opalescent, produced using raw spelt and wheat. It is slightly acid and lightly spiced. Perfect with fresh goat’s cheese, burrata, Mediterranean whitebait and fish crudités, pinzimoni or simply as an aperitif.

IBU: 10; EBC: 6

The name: Bianca is the name given to traditional Italian beers brewed in the Blanche style, but mainly it is in homage to Nanni Moretti’s film “Bianca”, one of Apo’s favourite films of all time.

Bianca isn't actually white but it's about as close as beer gets; pallid straw in colour, its highlights are actually whitish and, once the sediment is introduced, literally look milky. There's enough bubbles to make even vintage Champagne jealous and the beading created is ornate enough to wear as jewelry.

The aroma is well perfumed and smells legitimately spicy (as opposed to playfully zestful). Although nothing out of the ordinary is listed in the ingredients - just the conventional coriander and orange peel - I could be convinced those crafty Italians sneaked something else in there.

That air of complexity, however, doesn't pass the taste test. The flavour is agreeable, if a little lackluster. The presence of anything tropical or citrusy is extremely faded and the coriander could easily go unnoticed. Apart from a delicate rose-like floral note, it mostly tastes like doughy bread.

Not sure if spelt is to blame, but the mouthfeel is also lacking; there isn't the style's characteristic creaminess (typically imparted by wheat and oats). Bubbles that sting like bees don't help. High-octane carbonation makes it difficult to appreciate the malts and wipes tartness and spice clean from the finish.

Italy should be given credit for some of the best food and wine in the world - and soon we'll add beer to that list. Brùton Bianca, however, probably won't make the catalogue. Although a perfectly serviceable Witbier, it lacks the vivid zest, tangy citrus, and wheat-y creaminess found in the style's best examples.

750ml Bottle from the Hull QC SAQ for $12.20

Appearance - Gold colour with an average size fizzy/frothy white head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Cloves, lemons, breads/grains, oranges

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste breads/grains, cloves and lemon/orange juice/zest. There is also some honey and light banana.

Overall - A very solid and refreshing brew, the downside being the inflated price. If this was priced around $7 or so, I'd grab it again for a summer refresher.

it's a clear beer at hight fermentation. it's produced with spelt, and wheat. it'a fresh sour give from the bitter orange peel and white pepper. I think that in the bottle it's much better than in the keg, because the foam has a better yield and not having a great final sediment, the opalescence if perfect.
