This is a store that I have been to before and only recently noticed the increase in good beer there, so here it is...
The Jolly Farmer is located in downtown Waverly, NY right near the PA state line. This clean, family market has the basic food needs, but also features a growing line of good beer. There is the wall of cold beer (loaded with BMC as well as the craft brews) and several aisles of cases, bombers, and some singles.
Nice selection (not huge, but well-focused) of Belgians, some Canadians, and a great selection of the locals (Ithaca,Southern Tier, and Wagners). Great cross-section of the national stuff and some good regionals(Wolavers). They have four taps for growlers(Ithaca Pale,Brooklyn ChocStout,Wolvers Oatmeal, and MH Roxy Rolle) and the bomber selection includes Rogues and Southern Tier(Unearthly!). The prices were reasonable and the shelves were clean and well-stocked. I talked to the owner and he is trying to get more craft brews in due to all the demand for better beer.

I really liked this store and will be back again to stockup on the NY beers that I can't find in these parts.

I grew up near the Jolly Farmer, but it had been over 10 years since my last visit - all long before I was legal drinking age. I knew they had been expanding their beer selection, but on my return trip this weekend I was really impressed by its transition into a great craft beer shop.

I stopped in mainly because I knew they carried Horseheads bombers and I was pleased to find the entire lineup in stock. I was also able to find new releases like all 4 beers from Three Heads brewery that just opened in Rochester and Sierra Nevada Hoptimum. They had the typical North East breweries you'd expect - Troegs, Victory, Great Lakes, Ithaca (including Brute, 12, 13, Old Habit). The bigger national craft brands like Stone, Great Divide, Dogfish Head, and even a few selections from The Bruery were there as well. I was surprised, but happy to see last year's Old Guardian and the 09.09.09 VE still on the shelves even though these have long been sold out everywhere else. Knowing this however I'd keep a close eye on anything you want to be fresh.

The service was great as well. After seeing me filling up a basket the manager/owner came over and had a nice conversation about his new arrivals, when to expect upcoming releases, etc...

Prices seemed reasonable enough. Maybe a few dollars more than Wegmans here or there, but a reasonable trade off for the increased selection. There was a small section of singles at the front of the store which were priced accordingly.

Overall a very nice shop. Not the full selection you get at the Finger Lakes Beverage Center in Ithaca, but on par or better than any of the options in the Binghamton area.

Stopped in (thanks to BA) while spending the weekend in nearby Sayre, PA.

Quality: A clean convenience store with about 1/4 of the store devoted to bottles.

Service: An employee came up to me and asked for any assistance while I was shopping.

Selection: Two aisles devoted to beer (1/4 cold macro and micro 12 packs to singles, 1/4 foreign, 1/2 micro). Micro selection supported NY breweries well (Ommegang, Middle Ages, Horseheads, Brooklyn) and offered a few selections from PA (Sly Fox, Weyerbacher, Troegs) and beyond (Dogfish Head, Stone, Lagunitas). I found a small amount of bottles over 9 months old. There was a small section of basic homebrew equipment available.

Worth the stop, I don't think you will find much better anywhere in the surrounding area.

Jolly Farmer is by far the best beer selection in the immediate area with a great mix of local and national brews. I am especially impressed with their selection of Southern Tier Brewery beers. They even fill growlers from some of the regional breweries.

While the counter staff are not necessarily knowledgeable about the beer selection, the owner is very helpful and informed of his selection. He will make great recommendations if you aren't exactly sure what you want. If you are looking for a great craft brew, this is one of the few places in the area to shop.

This small town market continues to impress with their exceptional selection of Craft and Import beers. I travel pretty extensively in the New England area, sampling small scale and mid size breweries and have been constantly shocked to find that this store already has beers that I find in these markets. Recently, I stayed at the Eagles Mere Inn, in Eagles Mere PA and tried a Green Flash Brewery IPA (California). I stopped at the Jolly and asked one of the crew if they could order this beer for me. Sure enough, the young guy walked right over to one of the non-cooler shelves and pointed out the Green Flash IPA! This happens all the time! I think I've found a unique brew and they already have it on the shelf. If you are traveling along NY17/US86 in the southern Tier of NY (near Elmira/Binghamton), you really should stop in.

This is my favorite beer store and the best selection I can find anywhere around here. They have three or four taps for growler fills, and they are constantyl getting in new stock. The service is always good, the store is always clean, and if you catch the owner - who is around quite frequently - he will talk alot about beer and what is new; furthermore, if there is anything you are looking for, he'll order it in as long as he can get it.

Their selection has increased each of the last two years and there is always new stuff to try. I wanted some Bitches Brew and after reading post on here of trouble finding it, doubted I would come across it. Last night there it was five bottles and they had the Punkin in already.
