Bottle: great funky label, stylish 500mL embossed brown bottle. Pretty awesome!

Appearance: a bit heavier than the standard ginger - mid-straw with minimal head that fades quickly.

Aroma: sweet ginger (of course), but there is also a hit of strong spices - definitely getting nutmeg and cloves.

Taste: quite strong ginger, tastes very natural and slightly bitter. Certainly has some 'wham', of which I certainly approve.

Aftertaste: dissipates reasonably quickly, which is a bit disappointing.

Mouth feel: light-to-moderate body, with a reasonably high carbonation to carry the flavour and makes for a refreshing ginger.

Overall: supposedly has "traditional root ginger"... In any case, it has a 'Wham!' that most ginger beers don't. Fantastically different, really good ginger beer. Not sessional, but at least it's got something!

500 mL bottle marked 3CDI 21:48 at 45 degrees into goblet
Aroma of ginger
Head small (2 cm), off white, fizzy, rapidly diminishing to a few foam islands
No lacing
Body a nice medium yellow, clear
Flavor is predominantly sweet and gingery; no malt, no alcohol, no hops, no diacetyl, just ginger which leaves a nice stomach-warming afterglow
Palate is medium and watery with lively carbonation.

Best ginger beer I’ve found so far, flavorful but not overpowering.

Aroma 12/12
Strong raw ginger root hits you right up front and clears the sinuses. You can also smell a light sweet malt profile and some hops - Goldings? - coming through. There is a pleasant dough that rounds things out and helps the ginger from becoming too overpowering. As it warms the aroma remains remarkably consistant.

Appearance 2/3
Light amber/ginger color. Clear. A medium amount of bubble rising. Very thick foaming head with extremly long retention. It is like a root beer float kind of head. If the beer could be a bit less foamy I could actually pour it better. The foam sticks nicely to the sides but washes away easily.

Flavor 18/20
Spicy candy ginger with a hint of malt sweetness and just a tad of goldings bitter flavor. The ginger does what one would expect from the flavor, which is to give the tongue that tingly feel from eating a piece of sugar coated ginger candy. The aftertaste is ginger candy chews with a lingering light goldings bitter taste intermingling with the ginger. As it warms the beer becomes a tad watery. The mineral profile is enjoyable, but it detracts from the rest of the flavors. I would like to taste a bit more of the malt, hops, and bread dough that come
through in the aroma.

Mouthfeel 5/5
Medium body. Smooth. High carbonation. A pleasant tingling of the tongue that one should get from a spicy ginger beer.

Overall Impression 10/10
There is no evidence of alcohol here. This could easily just be a high quality non-alcoholic ginger beer. It has exactly what it needs to be one - spicy ginger with interesting flavors. The English Ale base is definitely evident here and mixes well with the spicy candy ginger. Some might want the ginger to be more subdued and to provide a better balance - but that would ruin this beer entirely, making it too weak.

Personally, I adore ginger and am excited to finally have a true ginger beer (read: alcohol is in it) that meets up to my high expectations for the style. We have a six pack of these 1 pint bottles and I am very excited to use the next one to make high balls with Pim's No. 1 Cup.

Pours a nice, rich copper colour. Smells sweet with a nice ginger aroma. Taste a bit sweet and slightly bitter with a spicy ginger root flavour. More carbonated than a typical beer, but on par with most other ginger beers.

Pretty much like a semi-sweet cider, but with a ginger taste, and a little bitterness to off-set the sweetness.

Would I buy it again? Maybe... It's not bad by any means, but just not my thing.

Coming off of a mighty pleasant Foley Brothers' Native Ginger Wheat, and a delicious Wychwood Hobgoblin, I picked this up without hesitation.

Good presentation and artwork on the bottle. It pored a clear light gold, and a strong ginger aroma. I took a sip. Generous ginger, as sweet as soda?! I inspected the bottle, but I hadn't missed anything that would have given me a clue as to how sweet this was going to be. The alcohol was nearly undetectable, and so was the fact that it was an ale. I took a few more sips. There just wasn't much going on, or I couldn't get past the sweet. It was also kind of hard to get it off my palate.

Not my bag. If you like ginger and soda a whole lot, it might not be a bad one to try.
