A 500ml bottle with a BB of Aug 2014, so it's just out of date. Acquired a while back from a supermarket. The label calls it a 'Cider Apple Fruit Beer' - sounds delicious. I'm mentally preparing to be taken back to my student days (sans blackcurrant).....

A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear golden-amber colour with good carbonation. Forms a large head of white foam that lasts for a couple of minutes before dissipating. Resembles beer so far.

S: Aroma of vague apples and light malt, with hints of husks and stewed veg in the background. Faintly sweet, with a twinge of sulphur. Unobtrusive.

T: Tastes of sweet beer-cider, though not strongly of either. Notes of light malt, husks, mild apple, sweetener, stewed leaves/veg and a hint of harsh cardboard in the background. Well-attenuated despite the sweetness, followed by a mild, dry finish upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with effervescent carbonation and a thin, watery body. Slightly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of acrid cardboard, artificial sweetener and hints of apple.

O: Bleh - unimpressive. Bland enough to be inoffensive but not a particularly great brew. Looks OK, while the aroma is surprisingly weak and the flavour is sweet and subdued. Thin body. The harsh notes in the background don't help. Basically, you could reproduce this by mixing Strongbow and a macro lager - hardly a ringing endorsement. One to avoid.

Contrary to the other reviewers, I love this beverage - however it isn't a beer. Neither does it claim to be - It's a Snake Bite, a beer cocktail (lager, cider, blackcurrant) .

Nice to be able to buy one in a bottle instead of having to make one yourself. Tastes as a snake bite should.

Oh dear: one of the sweetest and nastiest drinks I’ve had that calls it’s self a beer!

500ml bottle: best before 31 Mar 2013, poured down my sink on 24 Aug 2012.

Golden to amber body; with a wisp and weak collar of a white nature.

The smell and taste were just an over sugared apple juice with extra sweetners added when you weren’t looking.

Managed about four sips before I sinked it.
