This is part of a chain of bars with nearly identical menus – search for El Grande Concepts for more locations around town.

This bar can be a frustrating experience because it has a long and interesting list of good beers from around the world, but many are often unavailable and some have been sitting around for ages. This is a particular problem with the American beers. There's Anderson Valley, Full Sail, Mendocino and some others, but make sure they're fresh when you order them.

Atmosphere is fun and boisterous with a beer garden vibe – it's rare to have a big outdoor space like this in Hong Kong and even more unusual in a central location like Causeway Bay.

Service is not very good at all: inattentive and completely lacking in any knowledge about beer.

Food is so-so. It's typical bar food that hits the spot.

Prices are decent value. At the moment, expect to pay around HK$46 for a 12oz bottle and $60 for a 16oz bottle, with prices slightly cheaper during happy hour.

All in all, a fun place to go for a drink, especially on a pleasant afternoon or a breezy evening, but don't expect too much.

A little hard to find but, worth it when found.

they had a few local brews and many from belguim, england, and the US, they have a larger selection that most in Hong Kong.

outdoor seating right next to there sister pub inn-side out.

very small peanuts as muchies. i didnt have anything off the menu, therefore i didnt rate the food.

happy hour is from 3:00pm till 8:00pm and they have 2 for 1 on a few of the brews and others that are about HK$11 less.

good wait staff. overall was happy to have found this place.

this place is very similar to its brother the hong kong brewhouse.

the beer list is nothing amazing in the united states but the maybe 50 bottled beers they have and hong kong brewery beers on tap make it one of the largest beer selections in hong kong.

the atmosphere is great. not too loud. seems like a crowd of regulars who throw the free peanut shells on the floor.

the food was quite good, pretty standard pub fare. although good old fashioned pub fare is not standard in hong kong.

i think that this is the must go to pub/bar in hong kong because it is a place where regular hong kongers go, not some tourist trap.

My friends dragged me to Times Square to shop, but since I wasn’t in the mood, I was happy to find this place just around the corner to throw back a few local brews.

The East End Brewery is first and foremost an ex-pat bar. As such it’s filled with European and Australian businessmen. They show cricket, football, and golf on the tele and serve peanuts (really, really small peanuts, but peanuts none the less) at happy hour. This is a good thing, especially after a few days of Cantonese “cuisine.” It is also a tied house of sorts for the Hong Kong S.A.R. Brewery. The atmosphere is rather British Pub like but since the place is connected to a wine bar and a garden bar, there really isn’t one cohesive theme.

Service is very friendly but doesn’t know anything at all about beer. In their mind there are only four types of beer: dark draft, dark bottle, light draft, or light bottle. They speak great English so expect a smile and some nice conversation, but don’t go asking any questions about beer. At best they’ll tell you they don’t know the answer you’re looking for, and at worst, they’ll mislead you.

There are 4 taps of SAR beers, all of which taste horribly the same - something like the AB generic “ale” served at chain restaurants in America. Otherwise, the selection is shocking.

I found myself asking rhetorical questions out loud like, “I had to come to Hong Kong to get Brooklyn beers?!?!, and “They have more Anderson Valley then we do in Wisconsin?!?!” Yeah, the selection here is pretty insane. There are roughly thirty crafts available from about 8 different breweries. Many of these breweries only distribute in a handful of states, yet here they are in Hong Kong. I was very surprised. Prices were not bad. The aforementioned SAR beers were only a few bucks to begin with and two for one during happy hour. The American crafts were priced at about the same level one would expect to pay in a major American city.

Beyond the craft brews list was an equally lengthy list of Belgians. It was funny to look at the price for a 3 liter magnum of Chimay blue, listed in Hong Kong dollars at several thousand. Otherwise, prices were quite good, often better then they are in the states. On top of that they served a few fruit lambics that are not distributed in states, at least to the best of my knowledge.

Then came the swill section, which listed Amstel, Bud, Corona, Tiger, etc… Somewhere in my journal I wrote down the actual headline of the menu and will have to find and add it. It really made fun of BMC drinkers. This coupled with the selection more then made up for the unknowledgeable service and tiny peanuts, leaving me with an overall positive impression of the "Brewery." Still, for a place that bills itself as an actual brewpub, it was disappointing to learn that they don’t really brew their own, and to find that the house brews they do carry all suck.
