Dark red almost brown colour with no head and no carbonation.
Smell is sweet, grapes and you definitely get the wine character, almost like a dry portwine.
Taste is first sweet, then the dry wine taste comes in and it finishes spicey and dry. When it warms up you get even more wine character in the smell and in the taste.
Body is medium. If you don`t like wine stay away from this. Average barleywine in my opinion.

Thanks to Mike at La Trappe for exposing me to this. It was a very pleasant surprise!
A-Pours a coppery caramel/brown with fat, milk chocolate colored bubbles, but no real head.
S- The nose is intensely vinous and rich. Assertive fruit aromas meld exquisitely with soft wood, tannins and some herbaceous hoppiness.
T/M- The flavor follows suit, falling somewhere between a rich red wine and a Thomas Hardy-esque English barleywine. Don't expect much carbonation. The body is very nearly flat, but very lush and soft. It washes over the palate and coats the mouth. The longer I drank this, the more flavors I discovered. The finish has a slightly tart red wine acidity.
D-One of the best Italian craft beers I've had. Ducato is proving to be an intriguing brewery. I look forward to trying more beers from them.

A-pours a dark copper color, quite clear with almost no head at all.
S-hint of caramel, notes of meat, a good bit of cherry behind with a touch of acidity in the back.
T-very interesting, notes of meat and caramel. lots of tart cherries behind with a good acidity. the wood comes in at the back with a touch of of sweeter red wine (almost zinfandel).
M-smooth, medium to full body, a little syrupy. it is slightly undercarbonated but still holds throughout the taste.
D-very tasty, good balance with a touch of sour cherry in the back. 13%, where? no booze or heat at all.

From a weird Italian balsamic vinegar looking bottle courtesy of Kevin. Poured a deep reddish brown with a scant head. Nose is fairly rich with cinnamon, red wine barrel, heavy malts, quite meaty. Mouth is soft with a great contrast between the sweet, heavy malts, Christmas like spices especially cinnamon, and the dry red wine barrel. Wine was modest enough and barrel imparted a great spicy dryness. Very good.

Expensive 12.7oz bottle pours murky copper brown with meek white head. The aroma is moldy warm grapefruit, lime, tart red wine, faint wood notes and a sense of sticky malts. The taste is similar with a quick pulse of sweet malts followed by moldy sun warmed citrus, red wine, dry tannins and mild prune to fig undercurrents. This has a water thin mouthfeel too. A soured barleywine but it doesn't work as well (for me) as others I've been lucky enough to try.
