Appearance is a cloudy muddy straw color with a finger of head that lingered for quite some time and then left nice lacing in its wake. The nose was more like a wine than a beer – sour grapes dominate. The flavor follows the nose for the most part. In addition to the wine-like flavor, there is an earthy tone that probably comes from the peat. There are also vague hints of scotch. The finish is mildly tart.

The body on this offering is light and refreshing and it certainly has promise. The problem is that this beer is a little too all over the place. Sometimes less is more and simple is better; this is one of those situations.

wonderful smell of hay and barnyard with a touch of smoke underneath, the taste follows the smell somewhat. lots of funk and peat/hay flavors and just a little bit of smoke and tart finish, plenty of carbonation and a drinkable mouthfeel this really is a fantastic bottle of beer

A: Golden-brown hue, slightly cloudy, with hardly any head or lacing. (Caveat: I had this at a dimly lit dive bar, so this aspect of the beer was hard to judge.)

S: Smoked ham was the first thought that came to mind. Notes of leather are fairly evident as well. Fruity citrus and maybe faint pineapple aromas are also present.

T: Almost a perfect match to the aromas. Almost no malt sweetness; this one's tart from start to finish, but not in a harsh way at all -- it's like a mild lambic. The smokiness kicks in quickly and lingers to the finish, never overpowering (like some rauchbier I've had). There's a faint "funkiness" in the background that reminds me that Brettanomyces was involved in the fermentation.

M: Crisp, refreshing, and decently carbonated.

O: It's lapsang souchong meets lambic! I got this because I like smoky tea and whisky, and smoky it was. Not an every-day drink by any means, but an interesting and tasty foray into uncharted (for me) beer territory.
