on tap at Brasserie V at a recent tasting

cellphone notes

appearance: served in a small chalice - clear golden straw body, light white froth

smell; saaz hops, grassy, light pale malts

taste: After visiting the Czech Republic this summer, i have a newfound appreciation for the czech pilsner style and found it interesting that an italian interpretation was recently offered up. I thought the hops came through a little too bitter for the style. Grassy and herbal, pale bready malts. Interesting, but this is a style i prefer done consistent to the style guidelines

mouthfeel: clean and crisp, herbal, overly bitter

drinkability: good

Sexy fluted, and I suppose, Italian, 330ml bottle. 5% ABV.

This beer pours a hazy, very pale yellow colour, with three fingers of thin foamy, puffy white head, which leaves some decent spider web lace around the glass as it fades away. It smells of dry biscuit malt, and zingy grassy, earthy hops. The taste is mildly crackery pale malt, and somewhat astringent flowery, weedy, earthy hops. The carbonation is a bit below average in strength, the body a stilted medium weight, and just little too hop-affected to be considered out-rightly smooth. It finishes just uno piccolo on the side of off-dry - graininess tinting the noble hop fancifulness.

The label, while completely in Italian, seems to proclaim this as a Kellerbier, or at least inspired by the style. What this far-flung Canuck tastes, is a mix of the two - the hops just aren't Czech Pils-worthy, but we still have a nice crisp malty beer worthy of the boot's northern Euro neighbour.

On-tap at the Farmers' Cabinet. In a tulip.

A: The pils is a golden straw color, maybe a little darker with orange highlights. A half a finger of white head came with the pour, slowly lacing around the glass.

S: The nose is biscuity, light and malty. It doesn't have the sharp hop crispness that I expected (the crisp hops expectation led me to order the moliterno cheese, a pecorino). Luckily the cheese wasn't that sharp, resulting in a nice pairing.

T: Biscuity, the malts stand out. Creamy at times, the pils is slow to transition to the hoppy side. When the hops do arrive, earthen as they are, they don't go wild. Instead the hops are subtle, still clean but not as crisp. The creaminess of the moliterno was surprising, making it work well with this pils.

M: Striking me as more German, the pils is missing the hoppy bite that it really needs. Apart from pairing well with the cheese, it really needs those hops.

330ml sexy little stubby long neck bottle that would be a bar fighters dream weapon into pint glass 26/11/11

A hazy golden yellow with lots of tiny particles with enough bubbles to feed a large soapy head that retains well and leaves plenty of lace

S grassy hops with a little hay and lemon, some dry cereal pops up too

T a little grainy compared to the smell, some bready malt and the hops are toned down compared to the smell

M a little bite to it and it gets a little foamy, faint aftertaste

O decent beer but not blowing me away in any areas other then look

way too much money for what it is, 6$+ for a 330ml bottle this will be my only one

11.2 oz. bottle poured into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden-straw color, not unlike a Wit. Big, slightly off-white, head has very good retention.

Smell: A nice mix of sweet malts (not quite fruity) and grains. There's just a hint of pepper and yeast in there.

Taste: Initial flavor is of mildly sweet grains and malts. A fairly strong underlying yeast flavor kicks in after that. The aftertaste is slightly tart and biter; seems to be more from yeast than from the hops.

Mouthfeel: A very light-bodied beer with moerate carbonation. A bit grainy as well.

Drinkability: I'm honestly quite surprised at the low ABV; based on the taste I would've expected something higher.

Self-described as "dry, hoppy pale lager" this is a bit more like a tripel, but devoid of any fruit flavors. The flavor becomes quite intense, and a bit overwhelming.

Straw colored yellow, decent head, some bubbles. Appearance quite carbonated.
In the smell acacia hony, herbal notes, quite hoppy and fresh. Some floreal notes, also. Artisanal, in the positive way.
Quite hoppy taste, with some unripeness hint (green nuts?). Again acacia honey, a lot, but all well balanced by the hop fresh notes.
Very clean, fresh, drinkable.

Pours a slightly fogged orange gold with a sizeable off-white head that falls fairly quickly and leaves no lacing at all.

Nose is slight dough and minor fruits.

Flavor is basically like a standard old lager. Seems like there is an inky aftertaste, which isn't all too inspiring. Minor biting citrus on there. Seems a bit "dirty" really. Something about it makes me think of octopus ink, but not in a good way. And I have had that before on ceviche and it was nice. This is just, bleh.

Feel has a bit of a biting carbonation that seems to keep attacking even after I have finished my sip.

Overall this is a mediocre beer at best. With such a seriously thought out bit of packaging, you really need to be focusing on delivering a good beer. Especially for the price.

This beer has ended my long standing habit of buying whatever beers are out there regardless of price. If I am going to be dropping such serious coin on something, the brewery really needs to deliver.

330ml bottle

A- Hazy golden, with orange hints if seen through light. Nice, large-bubbled foamy head that has good retention and leaves some lacing as well

S- Pleasantly fresh aroma. The slightest hint of biscuity malts and then strong herbal/floral notes, with lemon showing up as well. Simple but nice and fresh

T- Delicate, mild biscuit malts. Then fresh floral notes and lemon (expecially on the tongue) from the hops. Maybe a hint of pepper. Finishes with a distinct bitterness that stays in the aftertaste and with a slightly astringent/tart feel that does not really fit the beer's overall character

M- Thin body, expecially on the palate. A little more carbonation would have helped. Quite flat and watery to be honest

O- This is supposed to be a refreshing, easy-drinking beer. It is in fact quite drinkable but that bitter/tart finish hides away freshness and leaves you longing for something else to drink

The aroma is very nice with lots of grassy and floral hops. The malt is there but its light and sweet. There is also a slight plastic element. The appearance is hazy gold with a fluffy head. The flavor is like the aroma but not as good. The palate is thin. Overall it has a nice smell and look but not such a great taste.
