330ml bottle poured into pint glass 15/9/11
A light copper with lots of bubbles and plenty of sediment and even chunks of yeast? floating around. great retention and lace from a two finger cream colored head, pretty good looking stuff
S caramel with some leafy hops, faint pine and some citric rind
T mimics the smell quite well but with a little more earthy hops and some biscuit
M medium bodied with enough bubbles to cream it up a bit without turning it to foam, very faint heat from the booze
O pretty decent stuff and unexpected being a IPA from Italy, there's some balance with enough malt to keep the hops in check
A bit of a surprise for me and I like good surprises, a bit of an English/American hybrid IPA interesting and worth trying

Bia IPA
Poured into a tulip glass this is a very solid looking IPA. Nice cap of rocky white head, really good retention, lacing is alright. Colour is an off-orange tan, no visible carb, bit un unfiltered haze. 3.75
S – fruity, sourdough bread, apple note. A bit of a sour-ey unripe fruit, peach, biscuit malt. Hops are hay and faint fruitiness, with a trace of some more oily herbal notes. Not much to be excited about yet. 3.25
T – a smooth start with more grassy oils then a bit more tropical fruit, mango, papaya, some orange citrus. Lots of bready malt and a fair bit of a caramel sweetness going on. Some nutty, dry fruitiness, apple, peach, leading to more slight herbal hop kick on the end. Finishing a bit more robust then edging out with a little crispness and drawn out yeasty grassy and spice flavours. 3.75
M – mild to moderate, with a fair bit of carbonation. Lots of malty body to it. Easily drinkable and refreshing, malt forward without a lot of IBUs or oily slickness. Ending is dry, aftertaste is lingering and herbal/grassy. 3.5
A tasty IPA with some pleasant fruity flavours and mild bitterness. I had trouble getting excited about this though. A good balance of bready and fruity/nut flavours and easy refresher. I was hoping for a bit more hop favour presence and slickness. Still its a well balanced and fairly tasty beer and worth a try but I would seek out others instead. 3.75

330 mL bottle from the LCBO; best before February 2014. Been looking for this one for a few months, as I'd heard about the LCBO including it in one of their earlier seasonal releases. Hopefully the extra months on the shelf haven't weakened it too much. Served slightly chilled, and poured into a tulip glass.
Pours a pale golden-amber colour, cloudy with sediment. Seated atop is nearly two fingers of puffy, frothy, delicate white head with excellent retention. It leaves behind luxurious swaths of sticky lacing as it slowly dissipates over the next five minutes or so. The aroma is clean and fresh, with plenty of orange citrus as well as some lemon/grapefruit rind, apricots, caramel and yeast. Typical of the style, but well-done nonetheless.
The flavour is somewhat unique amongst the IPAs I've tried previously. Bready pale malt and biscuity sweetness come through at first, followed by floral, fruity hops - with pineapple, mandarin, apricot and some slight piney notes. The finish is yeasty and somewhat musty, an interesting combination, though not a particularly orthodox one for the style. Dry finish, with hints of yeast and apricot lingering into the aftertaste. On the light side of medium-bodied, with relatively heavy carbonation that gives this brew a zippy, crisp mouthfeel that softens as the beer breathes and warms.
Final Grade: 3.76, a B+ grade. Bia IPA is an enjoyable brew, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for from an India pale. This beer is not as intensely hopped or flavoured as most American-style IPAs - whether this is intentional or simply related to the fact that this bottle is close to 5-6 months old now, I cannot say for certain. To be fair, this is still a tasty beer, and the combination of citrusy, floral hops and the yeasty, musty finish gives this one a 'hopped farmhouse ale' vibe that I can see some people really digging... I'm just not one of them. An interesting beer that I could see myself returning to, though I'd probably wait until a fresher sample became available. Give it a shot.

A - Hazy amber with a not-bad head of foam on a hardish pour.
S - Nose is sweet and hoppy, hints of grapefruit, fruit.
T - Sits on the sweeter side - maybe a bit too much. Sharp hop bitterness and a lot of fruitiness. Almost candy-like impression. A little bit of husky grain sneaks in the back door and a bit of an alcohol kick.
M - Smooth, even body. Not too fizzy and good heft.
D - Not bad. A bit sweet for my taste, but some nice flavour.

Beer is cloudy golden, a bit of orange. Small to moderately sized white head.
Nose contains some citrus, some pine and a herbal scent. I don't think the batch brought in by the LCBO was the freshest, and that is probably affecting the scent, as it is a bit lifeless. The herbal scent is not the best and is rather prominent.
Taste is a bit nicer than the nose. The citrus is more pronounced, mainly orange. Some sweet malty flavours, a bit of caramel. Some pine.
Medium bodied, strongly carbonated. A bit irritating.
Overall, not bad, and may be fairly nice when fresh.

12oz bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for $3
Appearance - Hazy amber with an average size fizzy off-white coloured head. It's hard to make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is some decent lacing. The head lasted for around 3-4 minutes.
Smell - Hops, malts, grassy, grapefruit
Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste caramel, malts, and hops. There is also some grapefruit/tangerine and some light apricot and something along the lines of medicine/solvent. It ends with only a bit of bitterness.
Overall – Worth trying but don't be expecting a flavourful explosion like most other American IPA's have. It also doesn't have a whole lot of hop bite to it. I wouldn't buy this one again.
