Cuvée 2011, Bottle #1736/2000

Brown body with some reddish highlights. Lots of barrel, cherries, and balsamic vinegar on the nose. Not a lot of room for much else to poke through. Very intense vinegar aroma. Cherries up front with oak and balsamic carrying you through the finish. Little bit of sweetness from the cherries peeks out and then gets pushed out of the way by a wave of sourness. No carbonation whatsoever. This is a bold sour that lacks complexity; very much a vinegar bomb.

2012 edition, a real treat this one is. expensive, but worth it. so much more than a lambic, with as much funk as it has developed lacto character, its certainly sour, and its absolutely acidic, but its a lot more than that. hard to figure out the grain bill on this ruby red hazy beer (gorgeous looking, radiant and sexy, regal, divine). i would guess mostly wheat, but it doesnt really have that texture. the cherry is so forward in the nose and the taste that its hard to tell what the grain really is. a lot of fermentables must have come from the fruit in this one, as the body is quite light for what it is. so much cherry! its tart and sweet fruit, very authentic, and as fruity as any cherry beer i have ever had. the cherry tartness and the bacterial tartness compliment each other well, but make this an enormously sour beer, with just a little thick sweetness in the finish. its mature and rustic, could have come from cantillon or something, its that good. its also that fruity and that tart, i have had few others that do this. maybe the spontancherry frederiksdal from mikkeller, but thats about it, including the lou pepe stuff. not sure i would pay near 30 bucks for this again, but i cant help be taken aback by this, i mean, its incredibly good and unique. the italian stuff has been hit or miss for me, and even the beers from ducato have not all been amazing, but this is special!

This was a very, very tart wild ale that I was excited to try. It pours a murky red color with little to no head. Smells a bit like a black cherry warhead. Lots of acidity in the nose. Sure enough, its mouth puckering. The flavor is a really nice combination of cherries and maybe raspberries, with a huge sour kick on the finish. Unfortunately, this beer is flat. I saw that this was an issue with most of the reviews, but was hoping the draft version might be force carbed. It was not, and the beer was begging for a tiny bit of spritzy carbonation. The lack of carb was certainly disappointing, but I still enjoyed the beer. This one flaw kept this beer from being a top tier sour though, and I probably wouldn't spend the money on it again.
