Pours no head; some light bubbles on the top from a vigorous pour. Brew is a reddish, dark brown, and murky.

Vinegar, funk, and cherries carry the aroma, in that order of strength. A little vanilla and oak as it warms. A musky, sweet aroma comes out as it warms, as well, not unlike wet dog.

Very tart and sour, with a lot of fruit carrying the back-end, vinegar up forward, and oak in the middle. Funky notes throughout. Cherry pits and grass.

An absolutely flat beer; no carbonation. This seems to be normal. It also makes it feel wrong in your mouth. It's not silky smooth like a cask beer; it feels dead.

Great aroma, and an interesting flavor profile. Definitely a big-time sour. I personally do not like the flat mouthfeel, but if you can bear with it a few sips, you'll adjust, and the flavor is worth it.

Cuvée 2010. Bottle No. 4887.
Poured ~10C into a tasting tulip. Popped with no hiss. Uh oh!

A: Amber, fairly clear though a hint of haze and not a bubble in sight. With time a hint of a ring comes about the edge.
S: Dark dried fruit aromas with bretty barnyard notes with a soupçon of acidity.
T: Initially very old ale like with dark fruit, a hint of sweetness and a modicum of heat. Quicjly builds in the tartness department moving more into the true sour range, but with some fruity sweetness constantly playing across the palate. Quite interesting.
M: A challenging beer to drink due to its like of carbonation.
O: A very interesting beer I am glad that I got to try. Worthwhile getting another one.

Pours dark copper and murky (SRM 16-17). The rocky head immediately disappears, leaving no lacing on an Houblon flute.

Tart vinegar fruit. Cherry and fresh-cut oak with light barnyard aromas. Faintly reminiscent of clove cigarette smoke.

A huge, tart pucker forms an all-out assault. Once one recovers, sweet cherry mixes with oak and earth. This one has a long, tart finish and is highly acidic. Lemon and vinegar come out as it warms, but it is best at temperature.

A medium body with syrupy texture, La Luna Rossa is almost flat. Alcohol is quite present, though concealed behind the tartness of this extremely dry wild ale.

This one is not for the faint of heart. However, for those who appreciate strong sours, it will be impressive. La Luna Rossa demands your attention and is worthy of a dare, but not to be wasted on those who do not appreciate this style. If you do not know what oak is supposed to smell and taste like, give this beer a try.

Bottle #767-2011.

11.2 oz bottle poured into a Russian River stemmed glass

Appearance: Rusty, red brown in color. Pours nearly still with only a hint of a hint of carbonation. Body is extremely murky and only very slightly translucent when held up to light. Some thick chunky yeast sediment is visible as well. Not the most attractive looking beer by any stretch of the imagination.

Smell: Sour cherries, vinegar, lactic sourness, oak, red grape.

Taste: Follows the aroma almost exactly. Sour cherries, lactic sourness, oak, red wine grape, slight hints of bread. Medium/high sourness that hits right upfront and carries through to a puckering sour finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel. Very nearly flat with only a very slight hint of fine carbonation perceivable on the tongue. Finishes relatively dry.

Overall: Really nice sour ale, but like many Italian beers, the contents don't justify the high price tag. Could have benefited from some additional carbonation as well.

A: This poured a nearly opaque mahogany with almost no head.
S: It smelled like tart vinegar and funky oak and sour cherries, with a little brown sugar.
T: It tasted like sweet cherries and brown sugar, with some tart vinegar and funky oak. It had a clean sour aftertaste.
M: It was oily with some carbonation. Nice slick body.
D: This was a nice kriek that wasn't too sweet or sour. The scent and taste weren't very complex, but they were enjoyable. The body was great, and the finish was surprisingly smooth. The alcohol was well hidden too, so it was really easy to drink. Could probably last a long time in the cellar. Not top tier, but worth trying.
