Okay, now I know we were walking along some roadway, but then it ended, like deadended, in a nowhere nothing something and I think there were stairs, well there must have been stairs 'cause we got ourselves atop the whatever was below and there was like a platform for trains or something with I think them vestibules you hang in when the weather's inclementesque but we weren't inside them really except to look at the artwork briefly maybe, and I think they had sectional themes as if different school clubs maybe were representing, don't know, but as we trekked along them I know I saw the Mississippi River pass way down below the somehow we got on a bridge, and it didn't seem to get much better for us once we got to the other side as how did we get to walking in the shoulder of a heavily populated major roadway to be honked at in a hurtful way, I don't know, but eventually found real walkways that weren't alongside the road and then if you make a left, there's Stub & Herbs...
Inside, a copper topped rectangular bar with a brass handrail & footrail; seating a dozen and a half all the way around. 2 towers of 16 each on one side, and a single handpump on the other side. Bar island of booze all around on center, up and below, baby TV's on both sides, and glassware racks over the bar. Subway tile over wood slat lower walls with windows on 3 sides and the wall to the rear holding shelving with board games galore, which Witzel will not entertain (probably for the best), and a Silver Strike Bowling game to the rear. Ornate ceilings and flatscreens in, I'm thinking, every corner. 2 dozen+ hightop & shorty tables, and booths throughout, and another dozen tables in a room downstairs, where the bathrooms be. And a side room with some interesting muralage, 2 pool tables, electronic darts, some video gamage, and guess what? TV's... um everywhere. It's considerably cooler here, I don't know why, I don't really care. I'm going back to the bar.
32 taps and all of them kind craft; more than 1/3 of them Minnesota beers (Lift Bridge Chestnut Hill Nut Brown, Farm Girl Saison & Crosscut Pale Ale, Summit Unchained Kolsch & Oatmeal Stout, Surly Bender, Coffee Bender, Bitter Brewer, CynicAle & Furious, Flat Earth Bermuda Triangle Tripel, Schells Light, St Croix Cream Ale). Nearly everything remaining being Mid Westerners (Tyranena Scurvy, Capital Autumnal Fire, Furthermore Oscura, Goose Island Extremely Naughty Brown Goose, Matilda & Pere Jacques, Dark Horse Tres Blueberry Stout & Raspberry Ale, Founders Centennial IPA & Breakfast Stout, Bells Oberon) and Mountain time zoners (Steamworks Steam Engine Lager, Great Divide Hercules Double IPA, Avery Kaiser Imperial Octo, Left Hand Octoberfest, Grand Teton Howling Wolf Weizenbock), with just a few that are not (Ommegang Rouge, Sierra Nevada Belgian Tripel, Magic Hat #9). And lest I forget the single handpump (Bells Two Hearted).
They were out of my first few choices (Dark Horse Tres, Bells Oberon, Surly Coffee Bender) but I gone made due with first the Surly Bender and then the Left Bridge Farm Girl Saison. Witzel had beer too, fucked if I know what. Also, I made the note "Rogue Dead Guy Whiskey, oof-ta!" so I can't rule out a sampling of though I sure don't recall as much.
5 dozen bottles, a mix of micros, macros, maltos, imports, N/A's, ciders, etc. including a nice selection of Midwest goods (Founders, New Belgium, Summit, Brothers, Bells, Furthrmore), but it's really the taps you want to play. Champagne, wines, and a list of 101 shots I wouldn't brag about (Bongwater, Shit in the Pool, Russian Quaalude, Muff Diver, Surfer on Acid, Liquid Cocaine, Orgasm, Fuzzy Dick, Alligator on the Rag, FAIL).
Angelo tending, he fed us a bit of this, a bit of that. We were talking some Bowie having just heard "Life on Mars", and he went and threw on Ziggy Stardust, kicking off with "Five Years" (the greatest damn thing on the album). I'm a very happy not entirely sober person. Well into what would have been side 2 if vinyl were, we got talking David Byrne (Sure, the Catherine Wheel doesn't suck but The Forest is where it's at). Chillin' late late night. It's lightly populated at this wee hour but I'm sure madness ensued in the earlier. An excellent tap list, the beer clean & fresh. Apparently, your grandfather drank here.

Stub and Herbs had the atmosphere of a aged pub in a trendy location, featuring an above average tap list and one of the best music selections I've experienced in a long time. Bartender was boring, slow and depressing, and a below average happy hour takes away from an awesome pub. The company surrounding my party was superb and makes me interested in what a busier night would look like. One to check out but until I investigate further it is not a pub I will be frequenting.

Located in Stadium Village - it's the best bar in the area. But, that isn't saying much still. Full of kids who don't know how to drink but it's stadium village so it's pretty quiet (in the summer, during the school year, ultra annoying). Cool lighting and seating - ol' fashion bar aesthetic.
The bartender gave me a free drink for not having any belgians in stock and he gave my friend a free beer since he was in the service.
Pretty good selection for the area. No one matches at least for a few miles.
But the people... Gah...

My favorite Beer Bar. Rotating taps, and lots of them. Great Grub - Fries are out of this world, pretzel buns are fantastic. Burgers and Buff Chix Sammy are mouthwatering.
Busy on Gopher Game Days.
Reagan the bartender is a boss. Waitress that use to be there looked a lot like T. Swift, which was nice.

Stub's is my favorite MN beer bar. They have a ton of rotating taps, beer savvy staff and they make a mean burger. Have had the opportunity to go there' for multiple release parties for things like Darkness and KBS among others. Their atmosphere is definitely that of a college bar but as long as you aren't expecting a fancy place, it is a lot of fun.
