On-tap at Hollister Brewing
The pour is amber in color with an off-white head. A fairly typical amber ale aroma here. Caramel and toffee for the most part with a bit of toasted bread. Light hop character with most of it being floral and citrus peel. Tastes of toffee and toasted bread with a slight caramel character. Like with the aroma, mild to moderate hop presence with a very slight bitterness and fruitiness. Pretty nice red ale.

On tap at the brewpub. Red tinted brown with barely any head. Light malty aroma. Primarily tastes of toast and light caramel. Just enough hops to be a bit noticeable, but malt dominates. Easily put down, and pleasant maltiness, but a bit boring on the whole. I know plenty of people who would love this, with its subtle hop bite and toasty, caramel flavors; just not really my style.

Enjoyed on 08-16-2008. On-tap at Hollister Brewing Co. in Goleta, CA.
A: A darker red with a light head.
S: Not too much going on in the aroma-department, but that's not always bad.
T: Malt hits you in the beginning. Porter-esque.
M: Quite smooth. CO2 is mild. Paired well with my steak sandwich in the afternoon.
D: Ultimate. I originally sampled this at the beginning of 6-sampler, then ordered a full pint to enjoy afterward.
Maybe it's due to many unimpressive reds lately, but I really enjoyed this one.

Clear, medium brown with lots of active carbonation. Thin foam skin and good lacing.
Nicely executed caramel malt flavor. A hint of citric sourness on the finish.
Better than a Fat Tire, but not world-class. Some hop bite at the end would do wonders for this one.

The Table 42 Red ROCKS!!! I went to Hollister after work to catch the Sox in the World Series, have a little dinner and a couple beers. Everything was very good, but this little number took the cake! This is perhaps the maltiest red I've ever had. It was almost like a porter! And the hop level was way lower than what I've come to expect. All this is fine by me. I'm not a hophead, so a rich malty ale is right up my alley. Great look, not much in the smell department, great taste, solid tongue work, ultimately drinkable!
