Draught at the brewpub, 10.5% ABV for this batch, and they now say that it's a quadruple. Not sure if there was a recipe change of much significance, but it probably isn't that big of a deal. Dark brown with a fine beige head. Spicy yeast aroma, with some fruitiness and slight alcohol. Smooth, malty flavor with lots of caramel, raisin, dates and spice. the alcohol presence is integrated and does well to balance the sweetness. Full bodied, but the sugar does a good job of lightening it enough to be easily drinkable. Pretty solid quad, and it's a shame that they still serve it too cold and out of a pint glass like the rest of their beers, this would be very nice out of a chalice.

Fantastic new offering from the brewer at Hollister! A nice spicy, but not too spicy Belgian dark strong.

A - Very dark body, almost like a stout. Medium head that never fully disappeared.
S - Very malty, syrupy sweet smelling.
T - Quite a sweet malty flavor of roasty grapes/currants, syrupy cough medicine and spices.
M - Strong flavors move all about the tongue.
D - This is more a sipper than a glugger and with the high ABV, this is no session beer. It would go great as a winter time dessert ale.
