[UPDATE 04/08/10] The Tap Room now has 16 taps, the largest in the Virgin Islands! On tap recently was Shipyard Prelude, Shipyard XXXX IPA, Shipyard Blue Fin Stout, Shipyard Export, Old Thumper, Erie Brewing Railbender, Erie Brewing Derailed Black Cherry Ale, and others. If down in the Virgin Islands, go here!

St. John's Brewers has existed as a beer marketing company for several years but has finally opened a space of their own in Cruz Bay, St. John, aptly named "The Tap Room". Located in Mongoose Junction on the second floor, the Tap Room is the only place with real tap beer found on a consistent basis on St. John. The space is somewhat small but clean, and one small brewing tank is displayed behind a glass window behind the bar seating. Tim, the bartender was very friendly and let me sample the 3 of their own brews on tap before deciding on my first pint. 4 taps in all, I first tried the pale ale, which was interesting. A pretty typical APA except there is some mango and fruit flavors thrown in. The summer ale was OK, it'll do when it's 85 and humid out. But I really enjoyed the Inaugural Ale (which they are currently entertaining submissions to change the name), and this was the only beer at the time that is brewed on premise. It was maltier, flavorful, and had more body and mouthfeel than the others, yet was still crisp and quite refreshing. The Shipyard in Portland, ME brews and bottles the Pale Ale and Summer Ale. They had the Shipyard Export Ale on tap here as well. Some wine is also served here for those who want to hang out and don't like beer. Overall, a must stop if your on St. John.

Located in the USVI version of a strip mall, this is a very chill and accommodating tasting room. Several taps of St John's beer as well as seltzer and an assortment of island drinks. Great place to grab a tasty beverage and quality beer - and food - while escaping the sun. Seek.

Stopped by here while in the islands, was set up as a temp place because of a fire. Very nice staff with great recommendations and answered all of my questions. Had several of their tap only beers on tap and 2 guest taps. The food is good but nothing fancy. This place is a great place to stop if you are on St.John and i suggest you try to do so.

Place is in a temporary spot in Mongoose Junction due to a fire. Nice open air bar with 10 taps. Friendly staff and usual tourists. I had bot the Massive coffee stout and the DIPA. Both were surprisingly solid for the area. They have a shop below called Brewtique where you can buy 6 packs and such.

Worth the trip to Cruz Bay is you are in the USVI and have some time to kill.

Nice Location. Small Place. Good food. IPA's are little bland. Best beer is the Amber Ale.

The wife and I stopped in on Sunday, June 5th 2011.

St. John Brewing Co. contract brews their suds at Shipyard in Maine, as the water and overall condition in the USVI don't make for great brewing.

Don't let this deter you though, as I really love this place, and St. John in general. The tasting room is extremely small, with a few high tops and a few barstools at the bar. It's really clean, and the atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect: reggae, dim light and an open, airy feel.

There are plenty of taps, over ten for sure. Most are "guest taps" from Shipyard. The actual St. John's beers are solid considering, and though they don't get a lot of love here on BA, they fit like a glove.

The service is fine, though they only had one employee on duty when we were there, and he was a bit overwhelmed.

Didn't have any food, though they did offer a small amount of standard pub grub. If you're planning to grab a bite though, head right down the outside stairs to the Ocean Grill, and help youself to the best fish tacos in the islands.

Prices are extremely reasonable, and signifigantly better then the wallet gouging you'll find around the rest of the USVI.

Do yourself a favor and check out St. John's Taproom when you're in the islands. After guzzling nothing but pale euro lagers all vacation long, I promise you their suds will seem nothing less then heavenly!

Most importantly - if you're in St. John, be sure to check out Hawk's Nest Bay. It's simply paradise.

St John is very small and as such this to my knowledge is the only place on the island brewing beer on premises. I have visited the island about 20-25 times and have been to the Tap Room about a half a dozen times. It is located in a neat little corner on the second floor of Mongoose Junction. They serve there brews as well as many Shipyard brews. I have always like the beer there. The staff is great! They are never in a rush and will talk beer with you for as long as you want. Last time down this past August, I had there stout which was really good. It is not something you would think to have in the islands but that day stormy day it worked. They also make their own softdrinks as well. Overall, it is a good place to have a beer and watch soccer on satelite.
