(3.75) A: Pitch black with a sizeable mocha coloured head that recedes quickly to a ring.

(3.75) S: Dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, caramel, dates, figs, plums, and cherries. The chocolate is bold upfront and rich but other aromas aren’t quite as potent as I was hoping for and require a bit of digging for me. There is a nice herbal aroma to this.

(4.0) T: Similar to aroma – herbal bitterness (anise-like) with a very malty taste. Again, dark chocolate is forefront with harmonizing sticky dark fruits and dried figs and dates. There is a nice caramel quality here but this leans to the bitter and dry side. Alcohol is considerably well hidden.

(4.25) M: Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Incredibly rich, creamy and sticky. Excellent.

(4.0) D: This is a very good imperial stout. The dark chocolate and herbal bitterness complement each other very well.

Real fruity aromas with some sweet malt mixed in.
Pours pitch black – starts with a 1" foamy tan head and dissipates to a thick foam.
Malty palate with a big chocolate flavor accented with dark unsweetened chocolate bitterness and a touch of roast.
Low carbonation yet creamy and chewy with a little dry astringency on the finish.

Bottle purchased from Green’s on Ponce in Atlanta.

Pours black with a small light brown head that leaves decent lacing.

Smells of sweet molasses backed by good amounts of roasted malts. Also present are very slight hints of anise and sweet dark chocolate.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Equal parts roasted malts and dark molasses up front are joined quickly by hints of anise. Midway through very slight hints of dark chocolate come into play, fading out into a moderately sweet ending. Mouthfeel is very good, with grainy carbonation.

Overall this was certainly on the sweeter side of stouts I’ve had from Amager, and I have to admit I prefer the drier ones they produce. Still, this is certainly their biggest offering and it’s one that’s still worth a shot.

Batch # 235, Best before 04/15

Purchased through Kracked Kettle, Netherlands

Price - $11.01 US/bomber

Appearance: Midnight black with an impressive light tan head of creamy goodness. No light penetration here, This m_ther f_ckers a black hole!!

Smell: Strong aroma of sweet malts, bitter chocolate and coffee beans.

Taste: Coffee is prominent followed by licorice, dark chocolate and a noticeable amount of alcohol in the end.

Mouthfeel: Creamy start with a slap in the face hit of bitterness. Finishes warm.

Drinkability: Finished the bottle with no hesitation. I think with a little more age on it I would be more impressed.

Amager Bryghus- Hr. Frederickson

A- Deep brown with an even deeper feddish hue. Thick merangue-like head leaves heavy thick lacing.
S- Thick dried fruits, vanilla, mild roast coffee beans, and cocoa powder.
T- Sweet chocolate infused black coffee. Mild hints of vanilla and a touch of prune/ raisin.
M- Big sweet and dry feel with a chalk dry finish. Mildly boozy with a bitter coffee bean bite.

Overall- A good sipper. Slight alc. touch livens this 1 up.

I had this beer on Tap at Borefts beer festival.

A - Pours a deep, deep Ebony color, with absolutely no light through the glass. Has a head that reduces to a film and laces the glass.

S - Nice sweet vanilla aromas with dark fruit, oak wood and roasted malts.

T - Vanilla, cherries, figs, chocolate flavors, coffee flavors with a bitter finish. Very, very nice.

M - Smooth but not sticky with a medium to full body, with minimal carbonation.

O - A very decent Imperial Stout, definitely worth buying.

Thanks so much Maria. In a word, a cup of decent coffee. Above average mouthfeel, black as coffee. Its very good as long as you realize what it is trying to do. However I am not a coffee drinker, it is a big proven stomach irritant and prefer the other qualities of an RIS as in chocolate, but I am respecting that they accomplished what they intended. It is drinkable and smooth (for a coffee beer). Had again 1.5 years later and great soapy dark colour, with spider lace. Cofee, chocolate, full mouthfeel and very drinkable.

16.9oz bottle

A- Poured into a snifter. Pours a dark black color with a tan head that leaves a good amount of lacing.

S- The aroma is fantastic. The malts are dark and roasted with a lot of chocolate in the aroma as well.

T- The taste like the aroma starts out with the dark roasted malts. Some sweet chocolate flavors start to come in around the middle. Finally the finish features a good amount of bitter chocolate flavors. Very nice progression of flavors from beginning to end.

M- The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. The body is a little thinner than expected.

D- Overall, this is a really tasty Imperial Stout that is very drinkable considering the high ABV. Definitely worth a try!

Bomber thanks to Nick3.

Pours black with a light tan head and some good lacing.

Aroma is lots of roast and coffee. Maybe some floral hops even.

Flavor has very little sweetness and lots of roast and char. Pretty hoppy for the style with coffee as well.

Very dry on the palate with medium body for the style.

Solid beer overall. Pretty different from your typical American impy stout, in some ways good and some ways not so much.

500 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Black, but opaque at the edges. Khaki head. Big discrete bubbles.

Smell - Heavily roasted malt, pushing burnt. Dark coffee. Some grassy aromas. Dark fruits and licorice.

Taste - Intense dark roasted malt. Bitter chocolate and coffee. Hop bitterness in the back end. Some lactose, maybe? Lends a creaminess.

Mouthfeel - Well carbonated and nicely bittered. The lactose lingers, though.

Overall - The lactose smooths it out, but I don't like the flavors it adds. Otherwise, really nice.

A: Pitch black, medicinal in appearance. Great looking half finger head. Well done.
S: just a ton of malt supplemented by a nice roasted aroma. Coffee, chocolate. Sweet and great.
T: follows the nose, but with a hint of booze. Very sweet, but cut by a mellow coffee flavor and a hint of hops toward the back. The booze comes through about half way through and is quite agressive. Tasty.
M: thick but not too heavy. Drinks like a meal. Slightly bitter at the end and a tad dry.
O: outstanding. Agressive but not overpowering. Great flavor, great body. Give it a shot.
