500 ml bottle purchased for about $7.20 CDN from the LCBO. Served fairly cool into a pint glass.

Appearance - dark, dark brown nearly black. Opaque and murky, with nearly a finger of light brown coloured head. Tremendous lacing slicks to the glass leaving a thin coating and a multitude of patterns. Head retention isn't spectacular, but the head settles into some wispy froth that does stick around for the duration.

Smell - quite roasty, chocolate and coffee come to mind with a extra dose of vanilla. Subdued yet aromatic, there are no off smells here at all. Very inviting.

Taste - once sip, and its defcon five in the mouth with the excitement of the flavours. Roasty dark chocolate with a trace of coffee starts things off, then transition to a bourbon soaked vanilla flavor, before capping things off with some leather and oak like flavors. Bitterness is persistent but not overdone. One of the best.

Mouthfeel - creamier than creamy this is a wonderfully filling and extraordinarily smooth beer. Moderate finish, behind the obviously substantial body and the carbonation is thee but barely noticeable with the thick tongue coating creaminess of the whole thing.

Overall - wow, truly one of my three or four favourite stouts I've ever had, wonderfully filling a decadent with intense flavours, but every sip just leaves you coming back for more. Definitely worth a buy and I will pick up another, if I can find it, even given the fairly steep price.

Real fruity aromas with some sweet malt mixed in.
Pours pitch black – starts with a 1" foamy tan head and dissipates to a thick foam.
Malty palate with a big chocolate flavor accented with dark unsweetened chocolate bitterness and a touch of roast.
Low carbonation yet creamy and chewy with a little dry astringency on the finish.

On tap at the Avenue Pub, NOLA

A: Obsidian black. A tight tan head with great retention. Curtain-y lacing.

S: Intense. Coffee, vanilla, chocolate and strong bourbon.

T: Damn! Sip and be awed. The coffee rolls in, then vanilla and chocolate pervade, followed by a wallop of bourbon. This is a commanding stout, that begs to be savored. Robust and rich.

M: Medium to heavy with medium carbonation.

O: Glad I got to try this one. One of the better RIS's I've had. Amager kicks ass .
