A 500ml bottle at cellar temperature is split between two pint glasses.

The beer has an opaque dark brown body with a huge head of chocolate brown foam. As the head settles lots of pretty lacing remains.

The beer has a very complex nose. There is a lot of toasted malt as well as chocolate malt. In addition, rye spiciness is strong and it mixes well with some peppery bitterness from the aroma hops.

The flavor closely mirrors the aroma. I can taste a lot of chocolate and some toast. Peppery flavors form the rye are strong as I swallow. The beer's taste doesn't betray its ABV; it feels more hearty than strong.

The beer has a medium body and lower carboantion. There is a decent amount of tingling from the rye (if I let the beer rest in my mouth). A thin coating on my lips and inner mouth has some of the chocolate flavors and is slightly sticky.

This is a very good porter. The addition of rye is a nice touch. The fact that it isn't trying to be a baltic porter means that it drinks easily and doesn't suffer from an overly sweet or sticky body. This beer is highly recommended.

500mL bottle, part of the LCBO Fall 2013 release. Best before June 2016.

Poured into a short tulip. Espresso brown-black, with a lovely mocha head that has remarkable staying power. Nice streaks and icicles of lace. When swirled, the brew certainly looks like it has some heft. Can't wait.

Rich sweet malt, a touch of smoke, marshmallow, chocolate and coffee. Smells very tasty.

The rye nicely accentuates the very sweet malty character to the brew, giving it a spicy woodyness. Smoky, very rich brew - tastes its weight. Caramel, coffee, chocolate, and other tasty American porter notes.

Thicker bodied, lovely carbonation. Great feel.

Damned tasty brew, really enjoyed this. Rye was advertised, and rye delivered. Will certainly buy again before this release is done.

Appearance: black body; frothy, milk chocolate head with pretty good staying power

Aroma: chocolate takes the lead of the roasted malt aromas, with some nuttiness and a little espresso

Taste & Mouthfeel: bitter chocolate is intense, with the same oily texture; solid boozy burn throughout; some coffee essence in that bitter roast, particularly in the lingering finish; hint of orange liquer; lacks balance and variety; medium body, appropriate carbonation

Overall: this feels like it's heading into stout territory, with a stronger roast than I'd expect; needs to be toned down a bit, and the roast lightened up to make it really enjoyable

Bottle purchased from Hop City in Atlanta, labeled as Rye Porter.

Pours black with a light tan head that leaves decent lacing.

Smells of robust roasted malts with hints of semi-sweet chocolate and lighter hints of spicy rye. Also present are mild amounts of char in the background.

Tastes heavier than it smells. Heavily roasted malts up front are joined by slight unsweetened chocolate flavors shortly thereafter. Midway through the flavor profile dries out substantially with the addition of large amounts of char and slight amounts of earthy rye that carry through to a solidly bitter ending. Mouthfeel is good, with smooth carbonation.

Overall I think it was the heavy roasted malts that contributed to the harsh flavor profile more than the rye, I’d like to see more nuance. A rare letdown from Amager.

Thanks to Nanoslug for this. Mmm rug. I love rug. Rug bread...mmm...I’m a real rug muncher, that’s for sure. It’s one of the few Danish words I know.

Dark brown pour with a small yellowish tan head and good lacing.

Rich roasty aroma with spicy rye, anise, espresso, piney hops, and smoke.

Complex flavor as well. Huge roast and hops - piney mainly - on the flavor with some rye and anise. Some bitter espresso. Really tasty.

Medium-bodied with big hop resins and good dryness with soft carbonation.

Very impressive brew overall.

Pours black with a large, lasting head.
Nose shows chocolate, cocoa, liquorice, roasted malt and soft coffee. Sweet smelling.
Big roaster flavours, some coffee but no where near as interesting as the aroma. Too much booze. Finishes with a big roasty finish.
Could use more carbonation, very syrupy.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color porter with a large light brown foamy head with good retention with some lacing. Aroma of rich black chocolate malt notes with light spicy notes. Taste is also dominated by rich chocolatey malt notes with light dry roasted malt notes and light peppery notes in the finish. Body is quite full with some creamy notes with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Light green hoppy notes are also detectable but very subtle. Enjoyable porter with nice level of drinkability but falling a bit short on the complexity side.

I love the Rye in this, it really compliments the porter style!!
Pours dark brown with a slight cappuccino head.
Chocolate and sweet malt aroma with a little booze on the back end.
Dark chocolate taste that turns to spicy rye and a nice bitter finish.

A: The beer is essentially jet black in color; hints of amber are visible near the edges of the glass when it is held up to the light. It poured with a thin ring of off white bubbles around the edge of the glass and a bit of lacing in the center.
S: There are aromas of burnt and roasted malts in the nose along with notes of spices.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of dark roasted malts along with some spiciness from the rye. There are notes of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a light to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very flavorful and has just enough of an interesting taste that it can be sipped. It is very easy to drink considering the strength of the beer.

Poured this 1 pt .9 oz bottle into a Sierra Nevada hops glass. No date. The body was a deep brown and the creamy head was medium tan.

The smell was smokey. Fruit and grain. Not the strongest.

The taste was also faintly smokey. This one puts me in mind of a chocolatey granola bar. Spicy and rich. There is almost an oily texture (in a pleasant way). Very drinkable.

The mouthfeel was medium to full with an understated carbonation. Very smooth and rich.

500ml Bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for $6.25

Appearance - Dark brown colour with an average size frothy light brown head. I can't make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is some great lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, chocolate, coffee

Taste & Mouth - There is a below average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, chocolate, rye and coffee. There is also a rustiness and some grains and a touch of vanilla. It ends with a malty sweet aftertaste with some bitterness that lingers.

Overall - Definitley a beer that got a lot better as it approached room temperature. The rye adds a nice twist to keep the flavour very interesting throughout. Well crafted and a great sipper.

Bottle from Premier Gourmet, 500ml bottle into a tulip.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a light brown head. Head is big, thick and creamy with moderate retention and some spotty lace. Nose has some deep dark fruity notes, milk chocolate, roasted notes and a bit of rye. Flavour is heavy on roasted coffee and espresso notes, rye, and dark chocolate. Some mild creamy qualities, but I can't figure out if this is in the flavour or a product of the mouthfeel. Super creamy feel, not too heavy but has a good thickness to it - long roasty finish. A solid beer with a superb mouthfeel, but just a touch too roasty for my liking.
