Bottle: Poured a hazy beige color ale with a large foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of vinous tart notes with light fruity ester and easily discernable rustic malt is quite interesting. Taste is also dominated by vinous tart notes with rustic malt notes and some light fruity ester. Wine barrel is more prevalent then I was expecting though based beer is solid enough to sustain it. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Solid offering!

In the genre of the Belgian farmhouses, their Saison takes on a "sinful" tone with its barrel aging that unleashes a bourbon-esque tone with sweetness, fruit and an agitated sense that the beer's trying to be something it's not. It's an angry beer!

Rusty brown in its tone, deep honey gold, chestnut and amber hues are shielded by the beer's cast of haze. Its tarnish ivory head is creamy and fluid while retaining the session well, smattering the glass with specks of lace with a swift swirl.

Its biscuity, spicy and winey aromas start off fine enough, but a quick rise of apple dominates the nose- those delicious red apple aromas overtake the orange, lemon and white grape scents and simply won't allow for the spices of peppercorn, fennel or clove to make any head-way at all. A barrel-influenced note of caramel, brown sugar and toast almost take on proportions of Circus Peanut candy.

Its steely caramel taste is of toast, over-cooked caramel, pecan hulls and barley grain. While the middle is reliant on the spice and fruit blend, the fruit really takes the lead- doing so with the apple medley of granny smith, golden delicious and fiji types. Its slim orange, lemon and grape taniness is dampened by the over-ripe apple character. But that's all brought back into balance in the beer's closure, where it finishes with a presence of toasted oak, wood spices and extracted maple-like sweetness.

Medium in body, its lush caramel taste gives richer and toastier impressions that keep the beer feeling less dry and zesty than expected. Though warm, spicy and laced with a soft vanilla character, its finish is slightly tannic, spicy-warm and peppery.

This angry beer is largely upset because the common, tried and true taste of Saison has been tampered with. As dry as those Saisons become, they are open to the domination of the barrel or any other alterations to the style; and it is not happy with it at all. With the out of balance apple character that ensues, wrath is about to be had!

The colour is brown-amber (25 EBC), the liquid is clear. The three finger head is beige and airy. OK retention; lots of lacing.

The smell is yeasty and a bit tart. Alcohol, solvents and green apples. Bitter almonds, dried herbs and some red berries. It is a bit rough, as it is supposed to be.

The taste is raw with solvents, paint and alcohol. Yeast, red fruits and tart flavours. Wood and bitter almonds. Medium body. The aftertaste is even more alcoholic with green plants, tree sap and fresh cut wood. It is rather dry. Bitter almonds and caramel in the finish.

The carbonation is strong; the bubbles are large and short-lived. The liquid is dry.

This one was way to rough and chemical for me.

Appearance: Clear, golden honey color, with large bubbles in the head, and specks of lacing left on the glass.

Aroma: Grainy, biscuity, wheaty aroma, with bright, fruity notes of green apple and white grape, like champagne.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Flavor on the tongue is very grainy, like wheat toast, with a sharp, bright flavor of tart white grape, and Granny Smith apples present as well. The finish sees the profile moving away from the fruity sweetness, and more towards a grainy, toasty, biscuity malt finish. Bridging the gap are the flavors of oak, and wood spice, like clove, which lent it a bit of an anesthetic flavor/texture on the tongue, like an Orajel sensation. The medium body keeps this one from feeling too dry.

Final Word: I really enjoyed the tart fruit flavors in this beer, and feel that the Pinot Noir barrel aging comes through in a very true way; the spicy wood and sparkly white grape flavors are very much in balance with the other elements of the beer. Yes, I know that Pinot Noir is a red grape (thanks to a just-in-case Google search I did 3 minutes ago), but the character of the fruit flavor in this beer is brighter, more tart, and lighter bodied than a red grape or red wine, lending an impression of white grape, Granny Smith apple, and lemon to the whole experience. While drinking this beer, I kept noticing how raw all of the ingredients tasted, and how wild and true they felt. The spiciness was very earthy, and woody; the malt flavors very rough, with a lot of the husk coming through; and the fruit notes juicy, and bright. While I really enjoyed the authenticity of what I was tasting, especially considering how many breweries resort to "natural flavor" additives, it also made for a more challenging drinking experience. You think you like spice, but their character in this beer is much more earthy and bitter, like the difference between cinnamon bark and cinnamon sugar. I found the anesthetic/Orajel flavor and sensation to be a bit distracting, even though it didn't overwhelm or ruin the experience. I'd recommend that everyone try this at least once, and definitely snatch this one up if you like oaky, spicy wine. Pick something else if you just really aren't in the mood for anything challenging, and would rather have something easy drinking instead.

A Saison aged in pinot noir barrels and pours a slight hazed golden amber hue which leaves a two finger head and sporadic lacing,the smell is pinot noir grapes,oak,barnhouse funk and mandarins,the mouthfeel is medium bodied and has tastes of cherries,funk,grapes,candi sugar,oak and finished with a sherbet sourness and overall its not bad and would drink again cheers.

Appearance: Apple Pie - Auburn - Amber - Clear - Caramel
Smell: Sweet Apricot, Sweet Cherry, Ripened & Syruped Apple w/cinnamon, acidic and tart smelling, some sourness present
Taste: Apple and Cinnamon and cumin is ever-present after swallowing.
Mouthfeel: Carbonation is dense and heavy - smells farm more sour than it is.
Overall: creaminess is pretty high my comparison to the dry saisons I’m used to.

Flavor: Apple, Cinnamon, Fig, ripened cherry, a bit of ripened banana at the back
Feel: Dense carbonation at the front, effervescent at the back. Hop character dries me out at the finish.
Finish: a bit dry, a bit of bitterness - activates the back of my tongue right at the center more than anything else

Last Impression:
Sweet apples and bitter orange peel, with a tinge of sour/tart cherries.

A: Massive beige head at first, light but also compact. Then the pale copper liquid starts to rise. Rich lacings.

S: Stable and leather. Rich sour yeast. Grass and even some smoked ham. Oaky smell, a bit vineuos and grapy. Spicy.

T: Oak and funk. Yeast and a sour grapefruit-like vibe. Spices but a bit uneven and a bit harsh when it comes to the bitterness.

M: Long sour dry aftersmell. Body is thin and carbonation rather strong.

O: Well, the oak and the wine made this a bit to rough for my liking when it comes to Saisons. The Saisony sencation was almost lost due to the oak...
