Had at my dad's house. He bought it in a 4-pack of 12 oz. cans from Total Wine. Stamp on the bottom says Canned on 8/27/15. Poured from the can into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Pours a very deep dark reddish brown, almost black. It remains dark even when held up to the light. Great big frothy tan head on top that lingers for a while.

Smell: Dark roasted malts, but not much else.

Taste: Follows the smell, tons of roasted malt character. The coconut only enters in the aftertaste and is subtler than expected, but very enjoyable. Some hoppy bitterness rounds out the strong malt flavor. It's weird... with some sips I get a strong coconut kick, and with others I get none.

Feel: Light bodied, a bit thin, quite drinkable for a porter.

Overall: A really nice twist on the standard porter. The coconut is not overpowering, and in fact a bit hard to find, but pleasant overall.

A very dark brown with ruby highlights. A nice thick frothy head with big bubbles.

Aroma is deep deep coconut with hints or roasted chocolate. Like a ground dry mounds bar.

Taste is a little thin, I guess they is typical of a porter. Initially a light coconut flavor opening up to more roasted chocolate notes.

Good, but the coconut kinda disagrees.

Out of a 12 oz. can into my Snorkel tulip; canned on 09/09/15
Poured a dark brown with a quickly disappearing light khaki head, leaves small islands of lacing.
Aromas of chocolate, coffee and of course toasted coconut.
A nice porter with roasted malts up front with hints of cocoa and coffee with a underlying taste of that toasted coconut and little bitterness and the back of tongue on the finish.
Light mouth feel on this one.
Overall, a decent porter; very easy to drink and delivers on what it says it is.

Deep black roasty porter that exhibits only a hint of coconut. Very enjoyable and dissapointing at the same time. Seems there was a recipe change. More coconut, please!

Not much coconut in the taste...I understand that coconut is not an easy adjunct to get in the flavor profile but it's just not there. Not terrible but won't buy again.

This Coconut Porter has a nice aroma of toasted coconut. Flavors of chocolate and mildly roasted dark malts follow on the tongue. Black body with a cream head that trailed some lacing behind. Medium-weight and mellow, smooth with bittersweetness. Sweet chocolate with coconut overtones persist throughout. Mild carbonation. Some slightly sweet wet char aftertaste.

12 ounce can into a Belgian Tulip or whatever.

I've never had this brew before but my main man SomethingClever gave me the hook-up once again. Let's get down with the brew. This pours a Handsome Dark Briwn body...to the point it appears Black in the Glass. Nice Dark Brown hues Round the glass looking Mysterious. The brew was crowned with a fluffy Khaki Head of Foam. Looks pretty Outstanding!

Aroma should be a treat! Picking up first Coffee roast on the whiff. It's pretty intense and I digs it. Second waves molest your nasil passages with Cocoa and Roasted Barley complexity. Subtle Caramel in there too but my mind might be playing games on me. Smells pretty Banging if you ask me!

Let's taste this Muv! The initial flavor goes with Chocolate and Coffee that slaps the tastebuds around a bit. Second wave comes in and there is the Toasted Coconut in the distance. Enough to make itself known. A bit of caramel sweetness backs it up adding a Monds Bar appeal. This finishes smooth and slightly chalky with lingering Chocolate, Toasted Nuts and Coconut in the aftertaste. The feel on this is light smooth body with cola-esque carbonation.

Overall: This is a Tasty little Beverage. Nothing negative to say about it, outstanding Porter that brings Candy Bar to liquid form. I wish I had more of it! Could it have more Heft, sure. This, though, is fine just the way it is...this Brew is Recommended!

This was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a fairly dark brown color with fluffy tan colored head about a good two fingers. Dissipation of the head receded pretty slowly.
The smell starts off with sweet cocoa running into some vanilla, light fudge and a little bit of coconut.
The taste pretty much copied the aroma and preserves a nice level of sweet cocoa roaming into the aftertaste and residing in the finish.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light allowing the malt to be the weight and run fairly smooth. Coconut comes back to help add a light creamy sort of feel clinging to my tongue.
Overall, this was an absolutely wonderful American Porter with coconut. I've actually heard this is called a Hawaiian styled porter and I know I would have it again.

Poured into a Deschutes tumbler glass.

Appearance : Chocolatey brown body with light strikes of cranberry and a head that doesn't quit. Towering, foamy, fluffy, gorgeous almond colored head @ 4 fingers, and recedes so slow it's like watching paint dry. Love it. A shade more opaque and it would be a solid 5.

Smell : Cocoa malts shoot right up the middle of the aroma, with booze, vanilla, lactose, and fudge surrounding it. Fabulous so far.

Taste : Chocolate hits first with a resounding pillar of smoked and/or burnt malt, following through to the finish with more char. I'm trying to get more of something...anything...but all I've got is chocolate out front and thick smoke all the way through. It's fairly one noted unfortunately. I don't taste the coconut that others are proclaiming here. Nor the level of sweetness.

Feel : Medium bodied, somewhat creamy although not delectably so; ends with a roast parch.

Overall : The flavor and feel leaves a bit to be desired...still, I'm convinced they did a good job on this porter. Is it worth the $5.99 I paid for the 4 pack? Yep. Would I buy a 4 pack again if I ever do see it? Nah, probably not. If there's one thing I've noticed from my haul from the Pacific region, it's that all of their porters and stouts are smoked/burnt, and all of their lagers are hoppy. This one falls right in with that categorization.

Bought this in the cans on a whim.. The first thing I noticed was the smooth flavor and crisp finish, virtually no alcohol noticeable. The subtle tones of chocolate hit your taste buds and linger, yet I didn't notice coconut.

A quick whiff of the stout grants a soft distinctively nutty aroma, which is pleasant and very mild.

Overall, this is a decent beer and presented well. Definitely worth trying.

12 oz can poured into snifter

A: deep black no hints of light around the edge poured with a big head creamy looking but settles to less than a quarter of an inch soapy bubbles with a slightly off white head

S: chocolate with light hints of coconut robust nutty maltiness a little bit of sharpness and almost a hop spiciness to it

T: very nice malty roasted nut chocolate taste but I can't hardly taste the coconut it might play across the tongue lightly at the end up and show up for a second on the aftertaste. Not too sweet which is nice

M: nice creamy feel to it pretty stellar for a porter feels very full

O: While I think it is a very good porter I am a little let down by the coconut I was hoping it would be more in your face. That being said its a great porter that isn't sickly sweet and has a nice creamy texture and light light hints of coconut.

12oz can served in a pint glass

A: Medium brown body settles into the glass; small, khaki colored head quickly settles out to a small collar; spotty lacing.

S: Nose opens with hints of light roast and a distinctive nutty flash of toasted coconut. A hint of chocolate rises as the glass warms That coconut note smells great.

T: Toasted coconut flavor washes over hints of light roast, coffee, and a faint, powdered cocoa. Not nearly as sweet as I was expecting, given the other reviews I have read for this porter - the chocolate seemed muted beneath the coconut. Really, the nutty/toasted flavor predominated from first sip to finish. Still, a nice showcase if you like coconut.

M: Smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel.

O: A decent porter, with a nice emphasis on the toasted coconut, but would have liked a more rounded flavor profile with more cocoa/chocolate sweetness to balance out the nutty coconut and roast flavors that dominated. Still, I'm glad I had the chance to try this one.

Look: black and opaque: barely any light gets through. Pours with almost an inch of light-colored foam that fades quickly.
Smell: Sweet, round, and lightly roasty. Hints of chocolate and vanilla. Not much coconut that I notice specifically, at least in the beginning, but maybe that's what is giving it the soft, round smell.... Now that I've let it warm up a bit, more of a nutty scent is emerging and the coconut is noticeable. I must have had it too cold initially.
Taste: Where's the coconut? This porter has a light sweetness, and I'm getting roasty malt with hints of chocolate and vanilla, but if I were drinking it blind, I would not guess that it's a coconut porter. I might have guessed it was a thin chocolate milk stout.
Mouthfeel: about average for a porter. Not a lot of carbonation.
Overall: I was hoping for a really intense, coconut-forward profile, but this one is more subtle. It's good, and unusually sessionable for a porter, but I would definitely want to bump up the intensity on the coconut.

Pours opaque, dark brown, with one inch head and high carbonation. Smell is amazing coconut and chocolate. Taste starts a bit bitter with dark coffee roast that switches quickly to milk chocolate and big coconut. The finish is about as deep coconut as I have had. Did not care for the first taste, but the aftertaste is amazing on this beer. This is one I will get again.

I really enjoyed this porter!

The light toasted coconut notes add such great flavor to this solid brew!

I will be picking up a sixer of these anytime I can, these are so enjoyable and sessionable for porter!

12 Oz can. Pours a dark chocolate brown with a finger of tan head that dissipated quickly. Smells of coconut, roasted malts and chocolate. Nutty even. Thin traditional porter with chocolate and roasted malts forward and coconut with a tiny amount of hops on the back end. Light enough to drink on a hot summer day. Not a lot of coconut detected. Very good traditional porter with a coconut twist.

M: medium bodied and creamy

O: nice brew utilizing local ingredients that is true to the style

Pours a deep black with a nice light brown head which shrinks only slightly while drinking. Smell is only slightly of coconut but that works for me. Taste is nice for a porter - no smoky flavors that I can detect, but nice coconut, roast, and slight chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel is also good - not too thick, not too thin, with good but not excessive carbonation. Overall, very good - the coconut flavor compliments a nice porter.

Maui Brewing Co. Coconut Porter- 6% abv.

A: very dark with an off white head that vanishes to a thin line on top.

S: coconut, roasted malt.

T: sweet, roasty malt, with pronounced toasted coconut. Very creamy-coconut-y like coconut milk, also has a chocolatey aftertaste.

M: thin and bubbly, creamy, very drinkable for a dark beer. Sweet creamy coconut and dark chocolatey malt lingers on the palate.

O: super good porter. Sweet and roasty and drinkable. Complex coconut/dark chocolatey flavor. One of my favorite beers. Unlike Kona beer which is contract brewed in Portland (making it a really local beer for me lol), you know they really shipped this Coconut Porter in from Maui at huge cost to the environment because they have to pack it in the reinforced aluminum cans that are thicker because they are designed to make it across the Pacific.

12oz can into a tulip.

A: Pours an almost opaque coffe/cola with 1" khaki head that lingers. Retention & lacing are both OK.

S: Big coconut & chocolate notes jump out of the glass. Some toffee, roasted almond. Actually detecting some vanilla as well. Smells enticing.

T: Leads with coconut & cola flavors. Mid palate features more of a roasty coffee slant along with a hint of vanilla, much like the nose. Finish is coconut, coffee & some hints of pitted fruit. Really delicious.

M: Low-to-moderate carb with a slick, creamy body. It drinks rich yet delicate.

O: Exceptional flavored Porter.

Appearance - Pours a dark cola brown with a light tan, finger width head. Sub-par retention, breaking down to a near barren surface and a ring of suds along the edge of the glass.

Smell - Chocolatey upfront with lesser coconut notes. Mild roast character.

Taste - Follows the nose, but with a touch more roast, resulting in strong mocha character upfront. Coconut comes in mid-taste with a strong undertone. Mild coffee roast bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel - On the lighter side of medium with bitey carbonation. A bit too 'lively' for a porter, but considering the source (Hawaii) it fits the climate.

Overall - Very good. Might consider buying it more often if it weren't $9-10 a 4-pack. I could definitely see this as a solid dark option on a hot, sunny day.

The beer pours a nice tan and bubbly head that dissipates quickly but still leaves some head behind. The beer itself is a dark and opaque black. The color is black but it seems to have a bit of a very dark brown hue to it. The texture seems to be a bit off for a porter but still close to what the style calls for it.

The beer smell has a really strong coconut note and it is really good. The beer still has the traditional porter smells such as milk chocolate, roasted black malts, and a strong caramel presence. The overall mix is fantastic and the coconut both shines and complements the other notes really well.

The taste is just as good as the smell. The taste has strong coconut notes along with the traditional notes. The other notes are dark chocolate, caramel, and a lighter roasted note than in the smell. The chocolate is especially strong.

The mouthfeel is a bit bubbly and carbonated for a porter. The biting carbonation reduces a lot of the heft from the beer. While the overall experience lacks the kind of smoothness and creaminess normally found in porters.

Overall, this is a pretty good porter and worth getting when you can. The coconut definitely adds and while it isn't the best crafted, it certainly is the tastiest.

a: dark brown with tan head

s: light toasted coconut notes, leans more towards the cocoa-coffee smell

t: more coconut than in the aroma. lots of cocoa and toasted coconut. coffee-like finish with a moderate bitterness

m: medium-ish body, carbonation is a bit strong when cold, slight chalky dryness, i do like it though

o: a good brew that delivers on its coconut promise. can't wait to drink more of this while i'm here

I've wanted to try this for a while as I love coconut and I was very impressed. The beer pours very black and has a nice head. If I didn't know what it was I would have assumed it was a stout for sure. The coconut flavor is there, but is very subtle, which I like. I almost didn't taste it until the aftertaste. It does give the Porter a slight sweetness though which makes it highly drinkable. It's also very creamy. So all together, a really good beer that I look forward to having again

Poured from 12 oz can into pint glass.

Appearance: pours a 3'+ tan frothy head that drops slowly with abundant lacing. Color is dark reddish brown.

Aroma: dark roasted malt is dominate, but there is some coconut sweetness as well, along with pungent earthy hops.

Mouthfeel: medium to heavy bodied and a bit oily with a dry, powdery finish.

Flavor: coffee, cocoa, dark roasty malt, coconut is hidden towards the end of the taste, there is some lingering hop bitterness and slight alcohol warming in the throat.

Overall: complex and delicious.
