Can poured into a tulip. A dark brownish black with a finger of clingy, frothy light tan foam on top... Leaving a thick bar of lacing on the sides of the glass but otherwise breaks down rather quickly.

Aroma is that of malts rather than the signature ingredient ... Roasted coffee, lightly singed grains. There is a distinct candy bar note, burnt almond and sure, some coconut flakes. The taste is rather ashy up front but mellows out into cola and toasted nut territory along with some semi-sweet chocolate. Chocolate covered coffee beans and vanilla. Reminds one of a Malibu chocolate bar as the bitter receptors acclimatize. Some herbal/tannic hop notes emerge in the semi-dry nutty finish. Solidly medium body and carbonation.

Although not my favorite porter by any stretch, I think this deserves props for not being overbearing on the signature ingredient and still conveying some unique character.

Not a really heavy porter. Tasty, but I couldn't really smell or taste the coconut

Appearance: Slight, sticky, off-white head lies scattered across a dark amber body, impenetrable to light. Thin, fine-beaded lacing adorns the glass walls.

Aroma: Dark malt, cold coffee, and toasted coconut dominate the aroma. There are hints of vanilla and sweet alcohol as well.

Taste: The taste begins with roasted coconut, dark, slightly sweet malt, cold coffee, and hints of vanilla. As the taste progresses, cold coffee flavors ascend. These flavors play off against moderate herbal hops. Later in the taste, a fairly pronounced wood note appears,. The taste finishes with a long, lingering vanilla and wood note.

Mouth feel: Fairly full, with somewhat sharp carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: Quite nicely done, a complex and beguiling example.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.
