Poured from 12 oz can.

A: Straw yellow with smallish one finger white head. A bit of sticky lacing.

S: Lemon, pineapple, baked bread, pale malts. Maybe a bit of banana.

T: Biscuits mixed with subtle citrus flavors. Pineapple, banana. Some sweet malts.

M: Medium body and average carbonation. Easy drinking beer. Nice for a hot day in the sure.

O: I am normally not a big fan of wheat beers but I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I think the hint of pineapple makes the difference.

A: Hazy dark straw color with a foamy white (tanish) head.

S: Wheat and pineapple in the nose, a touch of grass.

T: Nice wheat backbone with very satisfying and complimentary pineapple overtones. Not a ton of complexity with the fruit, but still pretty good.

M: Medium bodied and smooth.

O: A very good fruity wheat ale. Definitely recommended.

Pours a cloudy, gold color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of wheat, pale malt, slight sweet malt, hint of lemon, and hint of hop. Fits the style of an American Pale Wheat Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of hint of lemon, hint of clove, wheat, slight pale malt, and slight sweet malt. Overall, good appearance, feel, body, and blend.

Not a real complex beer but rather a summer patio quencher that makes good use of the wheat notes and the added pineapple flavour . Not too sweet and quite nice on the finish this is easy drinking and decent for the style. Compares with Kona's wheat beer though they use passionfruit as an addition. Tastes better on a Maui beach.

A - Generally golden, shifting between pineapple-gold and tangerine depending on the light. Neither satisfyingly cloudy nor crisply clear. Muddled rather than muddied.

S - You can definitely catch wafts of pineapple here. Being kind, the wheat notes are subtle; being unkind they are tame.

T - Disappointingly, I couldn't really taste the pineapple at all. Most of the wheat beer I've had has been German and while it may be unfair to hold american wheat ales against this yard-stick, this beer REALLY doesn't measure up. Little to no yeast, no citrus, tastes more like a lager than a wheat beer. For me this beer can't make up its mind as to whether it's a lager or a wheat beer. This does not produce some sort of groundbreaking fusion style; it creates identity confusion.

M - Timid, thin and fizzy.

O - Had quite high hopes for this beer which partly explains my slightly scathing review. The lack of pineapple on the palate was a missed opportunity and overall this beer did very little for me. I think the explanation for this lies in my expectation of a beer which would have fruity and wheaty characteristics. If you go into it expecting a slightly wheaty lager with pineapple in the nose you might not be as disappointed. Forgettable yet drinkable.

A vigorous pour into my Lost Abbey Teku glass produces a four-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head, that falls fairly quickly and leaves only a touch of lacing on the sides of my glass. The beer is a brilliantly clear, bright gold hue. Even as I pour this beer it smells strongly of tropical fruit, a more focused waft is much the same, but add some thin beery notes of cracker like malt, dried grassy grain, and that is about it as the pineapple is definitely the dominant note in the nose.

Not as sweet, and thus, not as fruity tasting as I was expecting, the beer is actually pretty dry overall; there is a general fruitiness running throughout, but the pineapple seems to be most noticeable in the finish. Interestingly enough this is sort of evocative of some of the fruitier American hop varieties, though it doesn’t have that balancing pungency or bitterness that hops have. Cracker like malt is more noticeable in the flavor and this lingers on the palate after each sip. There is perhaps a hint of bitterness here, but it almost seems like a touch of astringency or something else from the pineapple than like a hop bitterness. The body is fairly light, though not watery, and there is just enough carbonation to provide some textured effervescence.

As expected, this is a fairly simplistic wheat beer that has been infused with pineapple. Easy drinking, not bad and it can hit the spot when ice cold on a hot Summer’s day. The pineapple definitely contributes quite a bit more to the nose than it does the flavor.

Faint beery aroma but with a nice fruity nose. Just a quick mouthful of suds with some odd fruity flavors. Some carbonation but not so spritzy as many wheats. Light body without much malt. Just slightly tart. Pleasant and lightly fragrant. The barest hints of wheat malt.

This one makes it seem like pineapple is a natural for brewing with. Fortunately the flavor is on the subtle side. This could put the Blonde Ales out of business. It actually tastes better as it warms up a little. A beery light beer with a touch of flavor, if that's what you're hoping for. From the 12 oz can bought at Beercraft in San Diego.

Unreadable freshness date. Poured into balloon glass.

Mana Wheat pours a bright yellow gold body that is hazy, yet clear enough to show off big, fat bubbles of carbonation. The white head starts off rocky and about a finger and a half thick. It dissipates to nothing more than a streaky lacing on top. Isn't wheat supposed to help sustain head? Maybe the addition of acidic pineapple juice reduces any positive effects of wheat malt?

The aroma is fairly decent if you go into it without expecting pineapple aromas. It has a pronounced husky wheat aroma, that is balanced by a light presence of European hops and is colored up front by a light sweet fruitiness. It's the pineapple for sure, but it is non-distinct.

Mana Wheat does a good job of steering clear from creating a sweet fruit wheat beer. Light acidity follows a crisp, biting first sip. Flavor of pineapple is definitely there, more so on the exhale/retronasal part. The finish is quite clean, leaving only gentle notes of fresh pineapple juice.

The palate adjusts to the acidity fairly quickly. This isn't close to lambic territory, just quite the opposite from sweet Fruit Wheat Beer. Robust carbonation, sharp, and a medium body. Finishes crisp and light, creating a refreshing beer.

As it warms up, the pineapple flavor and the aroma open up more and more. Great beer that incorporates some local fruit, doesn't mask the original style, creates something different and good! I would recommend this beer to anyone who likes fruit beers that are not TOO sweet!

Poured from a 355ml can into a dimpled pint mug.

Pours a hazy orange-golden colour with a thick white head.

Smells fruity, refreshing and quite fresh.

Tastes nicely balanced between refreshing pineapple - not very tart which is good, and the medium bodied wheat element which is firm and refreshing also.

Overall a pretty simple tasting beer, but refreshing and tasty. Would love to have access to dozens of cheap cans of this stuff.

Pours a cloudy golden wheat color--looks like a pineapple appropriately enough--with a pretty nice white head.

Smells of pineapple juice, tart wheat, pepper.

Much of the same, sweet pineapple juice, nice wheaty character with a lightly tart character, some pepper and yeast on the finish.

Good full carbonation, refreshing mouthfeel.

I like this! More successful than most of the fruit wheat experiments out there.

355ml Can (a works leaving gift):
Cloudy yellow with a foamy, white lacing for a head.

Pineapple, a strong wheat aroma & some tropical fruits. Citrus & a touch of clove in there too.

Pineapple upfront along with some tropical flavours. Again there is some citrus backed up with some light spices and a sweet, fruity taste.

Light medium & fairly refreshing with moderate carbonation and a good, sweet and summery mouthfeel.

As expected this one is pretty tropical and fruit with a good, refreshing taste to it and one that made for easy drinking. A great tasting beer that mixes a traditional hefeweizen with tonnes of tropical flavours and somehow it works.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy, mellow, dirty orange with a white finger width head that fizzes away like soda, leaving nothing but traces of bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass.

Smell - A very simple, clean aroma of wheat and pineapple sweetness.

Taste - Largely a wheat taste with faint notes of pineapple sweetness rounding out the profile. Simple, straight-forward flavor. There's absolutely nothing else to it.

Mouthfeel - Light in body with fizzy carbonation. Easy drinking.

Overall - Pretty average APWA. Simple, two note flavor. Fizzy. Fairly hefty price tag. Not a good combination. Good summer brew, but there are considerably better options at half the cost. Needless to say, I won't be buying this again.

P: 12oz can into a perfect pint glass.

A: The beer pours a cloudy golden yellow with a creamy white head. Lacing is sparse.

S: There's a hint of spicy wheat aroma, in the realm of clove with some tropical fruit.

T: Malty grain with a tropical fruit finish. Low bitterness with no apparent hop flavors. Flavors have a sharp cut off with no lingering aftertaste. The balance of sweet and bitter is pretty good but the overall flavors are underwhelming.

M: On the thin side. Carbonation is low to moderate and the bubbles are tiny. Unimpressive for a wheat beer.

O: Not a bad beer but you'll forget about it rather quickly. It's just too light in terms of flavor and body to leave any sort of impression. There are a number of other wheat beers I'd rather drink than this one.

Medium sized couple fingers white to off white head settles into a decent lacing above a cloudy pale yellowish golden colored beer.

Wheat, light spices, malted grains, and I think oranges aroma.

Washed out grain malt taste with some light fruit, oranges, and even lighter spices.

A lightly dryish aftertaste on this light bodied beer.

A very light tasting beer, not much to write home about unless you need a lighter beer to cool off with after running a marathon or something.

Pours amber with a large, lasting head.
Nose shows pineapple, baked apples with accompanying cloves and cinnamon, and some doughy wheat. Strong resemblance to apple pie...
Some more soft pineapple juice as a flavour, along with more doughy notes and spices. Seems lacking somewhat though.

From a can to a weizen glass. Canned 6/29/11 I guess that's why it's only 6.99/6pack, ha.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golen orange. Huge three finger white pillowy head rises above the edge of my glass. Retention never seems to die out and plenty of sticky lacing. Lots of co2 bubbles rising to the top of the glass.

Aroma: Wheat and a big blast of pineapple, Slightly metallic. Kinda smells like a wine cooler.

Taste: Bready wheat dances with nice pineapple fruitiness. Pineapple! It's actually quite good. It walks a little on the sweet side but it's not overpowering. It's also not something I'm going to drink a ton of. I like that it has some full flavors, Even some banana and bubblegum. Makes me think of a hefe with pineapple added.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Would be drinkable any time of year but I suppose best suited for summer. Carbonation is a low and smooth. Finishes dry.

A lot of wheats can be boring, this one offers a unique flavor and wasn't bad at all considering how old it is.

Pours gold with a hint of amber. Head disappears by the end of the beer with minimal lacing on the glass. Cloudy. Aroma and the description on the can set expectations high - wheat smell with citrus and definite sweeter fruit from the pineapple. Taste decent for a wheat but the pineapple is subtle and does little to enhance the citrus flavors. I respect the subtle fruit but at the same time left me wishing for more.

Where's my ukulele?? I guess I'll go ahead and pass on a bit of knowledge to everyone here. First things first, it isn't pronounced "you-kuh-lay-lee". The correct pronunciation is "ooh-koo-lei-lei" of two words, uku and lele, put together. When Portuguese migrants came to Hawaii, they brought very small guitar like instruments. They played so quickly that the natives couldn't see their fingers move. Hence, someone said: "Look. Their fingers (lele) move like fleas (uku). So, ukulele translates to "flea fingers".

As for the beer. Eh. So so. I never seem to enjoy trying many wheat beers it seems. This one is hearty, but kind of oddly earthy in a way. There seems to be some vegetal thing in on the mix here, which is somewhat different. And this touch of odd smoky kind of thing. I don't know what that's about, but I want to say it has something to do with pineapple. Overall, it is pretty drinkable, but there is something about it that seems muted. I think the pineapple are offering some unusual character to this one.

Poured into 9oz pilsener glass. Poured a fairly typical semi-cloudy gold color with over 1/2 inch of white head that had OK retention and light lacing.

The aroma was good, a very nice blend of wheat and malt, with just a hint of yeast. The flavors started out the same, then developed a bit more complexity at the back. The beer was a bit tart, had a crisp finish and just a little bit of pineapple came in at very end.

The body was nice, crisp, smooth and dry. Drinkability was very good, knocking off a sixer while enjoying the nice summer weather would be too easy. Overall, a very nice take on the style. A very enjoyable beer that's worth your time if you see it.

I really like Maui Gold Pineapples. Every time I visit Hawai'i or California, I bring back around 4 of them. Anybody that's had them before, you know why. When I found out that MBC made a wheat ale with Maui Gold, I had to jump on it! I thought this one had a great balance between the Maui Gold and the wheat. Maui Gold is very sweet and has very low acidity to it, so I figured it would be a bit over powering, but they did a good job, not letting that happen. It's a great beer for the hot weather down here, I just wish I didn't have to bring it from Cali or Hawai'i, when I visit.
