355ml Can (a works leaving gift):
Cloudy yellow with a foamy, white lacing for a head.

Pineapple, a strong wheat aroma & some tropical fruits. Citrus & a touch of clove in there too.

Pineapple upfront along with some tropical flavours. Again there is some citrus backed up with some light spices and a sweet, fruity taste.

Light medium & fairly refreshing with moderate carbonation and a good, sweet and summery mouthfeel.

As expected this one is pretty tropical and fruit with a good, refreshing taste to it and one that made for easy drinking. A great tasting beer that mixes a traditional hefeweizen with tonnes of tropical flavours and somehow it works.

I first tried this on tap at The Draughthouse in Austin, but they only carried it for one keg. I was excited to find it in canned 6-packs at Central Market.

A- Pale golden orange and very cloudy. Pure white head that dissipated quickly (although that could be because I poured it badly).

S- Extremely fruity smell! Not subtle here. Smells like canned pineapple juice, which put me off at first. But there is also wheat, citrus, spice, and a little yeast. Smells much better once it's in the glass, and I remember liking the smell when I had it on tap.

T- Much more complex taste than I would have guessed from the scent. This beer is not sweet (!), has a good wheat-y flavor and even some hoppiness. The aftertaste is spicy and slightly bitter.

M- Perfect carbonation. Doesn't coat your palate or feel sticky. Fresh and clean.

O- I really like this beer. I do think that it's better on tap as far as smell goes, but it's fine canned. This is one of the best uses of fruit I've ever encountered, especially for a fruit that can be as cloying as pineapple. I was impressed that they managed to make something that smelled like syrupy pineapple juice taste so refreshing and clean. I will definitely be buying this again, especially as cans can be brought to the park.

Re-rate from a can I know is fresh:

The beer pours a hazy orange color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the bubble gum with a lot of pineapple and bready malt. The flavor is dominated by juicy pineapple notes, with a little bit of wheat mixed in. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Thanks to ericandersnavy for sharing this 12 oz can.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is very interesting. In addition to wheat, I get a lot of smoke. Very odd. The flavor is a mix of smoke, wheat and some citrus fruit - possibly pineapple or mangoes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Serving glass: Poured from tap into pint glass.

Appearance: Cloudy, somewhat dark orange, with thin white head and very little lacing. Actually looks like pineapple juice.

Smell: Typical wheat malt aroma with a light spiciness and just the slightest touch of pineapple.

Taste: Tastes like a normal American Wheat - some bread, some pepper, some light citrus. The pineapple is there, but very light. I would have liked a little more of a burst of juicy pineapple.

Feel: Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Finish is just barely dry.

Drinkability: Very refreshing, especially in Maui, but this really did not seem all that different from other American Wheats. Some reviews mention too much pineapple, others (like mine) mention just the barest touch. Consistency issues? Regardless, it was still quite enjoyable and refreshing.

Originally got this one as extra from Googzoid, thanks greg. Loved it so much I asked around for it and got the hookup as from lnashsig, thanks Lee.

Reviewed from notes.

A: Aggresive pour yields Golden Brown head, looks like a nice Belgian beer, nice head, but goes rather quickly

S: Fruit notes, banana, pineapple, and biscuity as well.

T: Wheat infused pineapples. Or pineapples infused with wheat. IDK, but its delicious. Fairly sweet.

M: Nice carbonation, fruit on the palate leaves you wanting that next sip, very nice depth/complexity for a wheat beer.

D: High as a kite.

I love this beer. Nothing to hype over, but definitely super delicious IMO.

Medium sized couple fingers white to off white head settles into a decent lacing above a cloudy pale yellowish golden colored beer.

Wheat, light spices, malted grains, and I think oranges aroma.

Washed out grain malt taste with some light fruit, oranges, and even lighter spices.

A lightly dryish aftertaste on this light bodied beer.

A very light tasting beer, not much to write home about unless you need a lighter beer to cool off with after running a marathon or something.

12oz can. Actually made with local Maui pineapples. Huh - damned near every other beer I've tried on the islands evokes direct associations to this native fruit - and these guys are adding the real McCoy right to the brew - bring it on.

This beer pours a very cloudy golden yellow hue, with a teeming tower of thin, fibrous foamy white head, which leaves some randomly strewn soap scum lace around the glass as it soon collapses under its own aspirations.

It smells of edgy wheat grain, some prominent banana chip esters, some weakly sassy pineapple fruitiness, a softly acrid yeast, and subtle leafy, citric hops. The taste is more moderated, but still crisp, white wheat graininess, a more pineapple-dominated fruitiness - though I'd still like a fair bit more of the proclaimed guest ingredient to shine through - and ethereal yeast and leafy hops notes that seem to come and go at will.

The bubbles are pretty sedate, the body a rather steady medium weight for the style, and agreeably smooth. It finishes off-dry, the sweetness of the wheat and fruit holding on with little effort, as the herbal hops and leftover yeast don't seem capable of any serious rejoinder.

A pretty darned drinkable example of the style, twisted and a tad mutated for the remote island ethos - for the better, I must declare. This little fruit experiment is cute, as it just adds to an already capable underlying wheat ale.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy, mellow, dirty orange with a white finger width head that fizzes away like soda, leaving nothing but traces of bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass.

Smell - A very simple, clean aroma of wheat and pineapple sweetness.

Taste - Largely a wheat taste with faint notes of pineapple sweetness rounding out the profile. Simple, straight-forward flavor. There's absolutely nothing else to it.

Mouthfeel - Light in body with fizzy carbonation. Easy drinking.

Overall - Pretty average APWA. Simple, two note flavor. Fizzy. Fairly hefty price tag. Not a good combination. Good summer brew, but there are considerably better options at half the cost. Needless to say, I won't be buying this again.

Poured from a 12oz can into my Ayinger weissbier glass.

Pale gold, not quite clear liquid topped briefly by a half finger of ivory which rapidly fizzes away to nothing. No real lacing to speak of either...

Strong banana aroma, light orange (creamsicle?), and faint wheat in the nose.

Bananas come forward once again on the palate, along with very low level pineapple juice notes, though these are easy to mistake for light fruit esters. Low bitterness, as the hops seem rather restrained. Slighly odd finish which is sweet/tart and somewhat grainy. No off notes though.

Light bodied, with what appears to be decent carbonation, though head formation/retention is incredibly poor.

An approachable summer beer - good for a picnic or pool party - but not too impressive on its own.

Pours an almost murky orange yellow color. Decent white head with pretty good retention. Strong banana aroma with some spiciness and a bit of citrus aroma. Banana aroma reminds me of dried banana chips. The pineapple flavor is relegated to the background, this is not an over the top fruity beer, which I appreciate, but actually I would like to see a bit more of the pineapple in this one. The banana flavor actually takes first billing, which is a bit surprising.

12 oz can into a pint glass.

Pours a hazed apricot flavor, with a finger of fizzy bright-white head. This retains with a foamy ring around the edges of the glass, leaving back a cascade of light spotty lacing. The aroma has a tart juicy pineapple character to it, which gives this some zip, and works nicely with the crisp twang here from the wheat. There is just a touch of spicy grassiness to this that sits on the edges of the nose and I swear that I’m actually getting a light smidge of alcohol warmth out of this as well. That’s a little disappointing but I’m still digging the pineapple flavor of this.

The taste is similar, juicy pineapple flavor that is brightened even more on the palate by the sugary sweetness of the malts. The wheat has a crisp tart twang across the back, while some grassy bitterness here does give this some assertiveness through the middle portion of the profile. The finish on this is mostly dry but some lingering juicy sugars do seem to dwell around a bit. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a lively effervescence to the carbonation that then gets more smooth and creamy as things move out into the mouth. This just has a nice firmness to the feel that compliments the overall crispness of the wheat here.

I enjoyed this. The pineapple character came off as more authentic than artificial to me and I thought that it nicely complimented the wheat flavors in this. This was crisp, flavorful, and easy drinking. I’d be down with checking out more of this in the future. It’s cool to see Maui down in Maryland now.
