On tap at Maui Brewing Company in Lahaina, HI.

Pours a clear dark orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. A foamy lattice of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that has a solid citrus forward hop presence.

Had on tap at Murphy's Bar & Grill, Honolulu, HI.

Appearance: Amber red-brick color with a lacing of head.

Smell: Malty with a bit of spice.

Taste & mouthfeel: malty & bready with some peppery spice. Lighter in mouthfeel. Nice mild hop flavor at the end with a dry aftertaste.

Overall: easily drinkable with a slight bite. Good and enjoyable.

Maui amber reign

A: High amber ruby tones, middle carbonation, deep orange hues, mild carbonation, and solid lacing

S: autumn leaves, cinnamon, and sugar cookies abound. It feels like a sad PTA meeting.
T: There is a dull drying flavor with some sweet notes. The light nuttiness presents itself and retreats quickly.

M: There is almost no coating and you can power through an entire 22oz pour effortlessly. That is not exceptionally good for what is ultimately a forgettable endeavor. Getting to the airport very quickly in a Ford Fusion doesn’t make the lackluster car any more or less forgettable. It simply is.

D: This is an exceptionally drinkable beer if only for the fact that you have to impart a ton of liquid into your body for a minimal amount of flavor. I would assume that there is some low abv going on here, but that isn’t exactly accurate either. It will fill the time like a passing romcom, but nothing that will make you take up screenplay writing.

Narrative: The tri-state paper conference started out all wrong. Jace Rawlings knew he should have printed his handouts on eggshell, or at least opted for some embossed text. Now who looked like a fool in the company of triple bond champions. “Hey…JACE…Jace was it? Lemmie see that business card again!” Jace meekly handed his main competitor, Chaz Merkel, his freshly minted card. “I see you uh, you went big here on the single poly blend low acidity, did you happen to print this off of a HP Smarttech 2200?!” The crowd burst into laughter. References to the notorious HP Smarttech 2200 were particularly in vogue after a notorious feed error warranted a wholesale return to the factory. The other paper executives laughed and laughed at his expense. Jace lowered his head and accepted defeat. As he exited, he left a single origami crane folded out of visualizing paper, three hole punched, a rare 2003 vintage.
