Appearance: It has a nice dark brown color to it with some amber hues shining through. It has a nice off-white head that dies down somewhat fast and leaves next to no lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of toasted malts, some nuttiness, burnt caramel and a hint of coffee.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a some toasted/roasted malts, some nuttiness, sweet caramel and faint coffee.

Mouthfeel: It has a low carbonation with a somewhat light overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by decent flavors and aromas.

Serving type: can

Undated can at 40 degrees into standard pint glass
Aroma of roasted malt
Head average (4 cm), light brown, creamy, slowly diminishing
Lacing none
Body dark amber, clear
Flavor begins with slightly sweet roasted malt which quickly ends with a malty bitterness; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate medium, creamy, soft carbonation

An OK swartzbier, not the best but still OK. I had this for the first time at my first Penn State beer festival in 2006 and haven’t seen it at ant other northern fests. The first beer I ever ordered on line was a case of this in bombers a couple of years ago (They no longer ship beer). My expectations were high; unfortunately the reality didn’t meet them.

Appearance:: deep mahogany color, almost black. a finger of an off white head that fades fairly quickly and leaves only a small lacing behind. some clarity along the edges but the darkness makes it opaque

Smell: soft malt presences. dark malts with some munich and a bit of caramel, hints at coffee. weak noble hop character near the end

Taste: opens with some munich mixed with a moderate caramel. sweetness comes on just a tad too strong. some black licorice taste. again hints of coffee and noble hops

Mouthfeel: light, and just a touch too sweet

Overall: not a bad beer by any means but misses the style just by a bit. could use a little more hops for balance.

DRinking a cellar temp bottle poured into a snifter. The bottle has been in my cellar for a little bit so I wonder how it has held up.
Pours a very dark brown color with fizzy and tightly packed beige head of 3 cm that fades to a sturdy surface layer that remains through the sampling.
Aroma is toffee and some brown sugar, maybe a little oxidation but very faint on the nose. Appealing sweet scents on this beer.
First sip reveals an average body with crisp texture and very fine tingly carbonation.
Flavor is grainy and sweet malt with some toffee and a little bit of brown sugar too. Finish is a little lingering spicy hops. Very drinkable flavor, again just a hint of oxidation but it doesnt ruin the beer.
A pretty decent lager that Iwish I had tried a little earlier in my possession but still pretty tasty. I would like t try another bottle fresh.

Bought a 22-oz bottle during an Outer Banks vacation in early September of this year. Also picked up a mix pack of WP's brats. Paired together for this tasting. Hint: they went excellent together. Now for the beer:

A: appears dark amber with decent head and good carbonation.

S: smells clean with very light toasted notes atop a fresh bread loaf straight outta the oven.

T: clean pilsner malt with some graininess and some light roast. Maybe some light roast like watered down coffee. Has the faintest hint of some cocoa or chocolate. Very clean overall with no off flavors. Just the right touch of bitterness. No significant hop flavor.

M: easy drinking with light to medium mouthfeel. Ample bitterness with good carbonation.

O: a solid dark lager. Easy drinking and probably the right beer for warm summer months. As mentioned earlier, paired great with brats & homemade sauerkraut.
