On tap at the Tap and Growler the other day, during their Barrel Aged competition event. I don't know if Oakshire just made the beer for the event, but it would be nice if they kept on making (it was the hands down winner I was told at the T&G competition).
To be honest, the first thought that crossed my mind is that this beer is very similar to some of the Hellshire beers I've had in the past (seemed to have a bit more bourbon, which I appreciated), and if you like that, this will likely be a hit for you as well. The beer pours a fairly dark brown color, with very good head retention and considerable lacing. On the nose, there's plenty of bourbon, light coffee, vanilla and chocolate, with maybe a hint of underlying spice. The flavor profile is more of the same, with some light brown sugar as well. The beer is very soft and plush on the palate, with something of an underlying creaminess. Alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile, and drinkability was very good. This beer goes down very easily indeed, without any sense of heat or heaviness.
Excellent stuff!
