A: Poured a lightly clouded tannish brown color with a small dirty white cap and some lacing

S: Some citrus hops, caramel, toffee, Earthiness and brown sugar dominate

T: Some caramel, brown sugar, Earthy notes some old cocoa beans blended with citrus hops, faded hops and a light booze tinge

M: Medium bodied, I felt it was a wee bit thin. Sticky, sweet and a nice bitterness

O: Meh

This one seems to be back again for 2012. On tap at Pizza Port OB. Described as a "Hoppy Brown Ale," but it is certainly strong.

The earthy hops go on and on and on. Dark brown with a golden edge. Not much of a head, though it makes up for it with a pleasantly carbonated mouthfeel. A rich and powerful taste, though it turns out to be mostly alcohol and bitter hops. It won't beat a lot of Imperial Browns or big Stouts, but it's a drinkable strong beer. A mineral taste later on, and a long bitter aftertaste. Not much aroma and it's hard to taste the malt. Not the most fun way to get bombed on one pint.

On tap at 2009 HAF.

Dark amber, tan head. Chocolate malts in the nose and taste. Alcohol is fairly well hidden. Big mouthfeel, this is a pretty young beer with significant carbonation. A bit sweetish but overall well balanced. Aggressive hoppiness on the back end, may need to be cellared a while to tame down the hops. Looking forward to more of Oakshire products as Matt diversifies their portfolio.

On tap at the Holiday Ale Festival the other day.

The beer pours a solid brown color with good head retention and lacing. For all the world this looks like a typical brown ale. However, one whiff and I immediately knew this wasn't going to be your typical brown ale or barleywine. The nose on this beer is all about the hops, with the brown sugar aroma completely dominated by hoppy citrus and pepper. Flavors replicate the nose, and I just love how the hoppy bitterness blows aside the brown sugar and light chocolate. After all the rich and boozy strong ales and winter warmers, it was a treat to drink something with some hoppy bite to it. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and the 9.5% abv. is well disguised. You can tell the alcohol is up there a bit, but it no way detracts from this beer's drinkability. Very nicely done.
