Pours a yellow golden color with a plentiful white foam in the big Stella glass. Holy flocculating barmaids! This stuff is full of floaters. Trying not to look, the aroma is richly hoppy with a hint of banana and honeysuckle.

Sweet and fruity with a flowery, piney taste. Dark bitter flavor creeps up. Tangy with a lemony taste. Quite bitter aftertaste. A cereal note. Nice aromatics from sniff to finish.

Not one of the better efforts from the usually reliable Fort George. From the 12 oz can purchased at Special Brews in Lynwood, Washington.

Canned on 10/2/2014. Served chilled into a goblet.

The Optimist is a pale orange color with lots of little floaties creating considerable haze. The head is thick and has great retention.

Aroma is perhaps a little faded over the last 10 weeks but still has pleasant hoppiness.

Flavor has good depth, not one dimensional at all, with typical west coast and Pacific Northwest character. Pine, citrus, and a little grass all come through.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and well carbonated. Good balance for an IPA and nice depth.

Overall a very good IPA. Maybe not terribly memorable but certainly well constructed.

12oz can picked up at Brewforia Meridian late last week.. Also saw it at Brewer's Haven... Paid a pricey $2... will be cheaper when it gets out and about around town.

Pours a very hazy orange... thin white head... lacing is there, but is nothing special.

Grassy/lite floral hops punctuate the nose but are lost in the residual pale malts.

Flavor begins with a nice bitterness but quickly moves to a pretty nondescript herbal/floral hoppiness.

Body and carbonation are fine.

Okay... just not what I want when I think of a PNW IPA... Still tasty, just not my style.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a ton of white floating particles; one finger white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of bready, lightly biscuity malt, citrus hops. Flavor follows, with bready, biscuity malt and citrus and lightly pine resin hops. Biscuit with grassy and citrus hop bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with slight creaminess. A good IPA on the malty side of the spectrum. Hops are good but not exciting, but I liked the malt flavors in this one. Not a stand out IPA, but a pleasant and well made one. Not pretty to look at with all the particulates, but these don't seem to affect the flavor in any way.

Fort George cans some real fine IPAs including their knockout Vortex, and their 3Way collab has been good too, but this one ... meh. Hop character is all about the bitterness, none of the fruit/fresh/resin that I liked about most Oregon IPAs, No real malt to back it up either. Tasted to me like one of those 'Session IPA' fails made by a lesser brewery, not a worthy effort from a brewery I usually blindly trust to whip out something both unusual and good (thus purchase of sixer untried). This glass is half empty ... and then some.

12 oz can from Lifesource Natural Grocers in Salem OR. $1.69 " A crisp, clean IPA with floral hints and an upbeat attitude" 6.2% After a bad pour with a huge head taking most of the glass it settles down and I see a hazy yellow ( almost like a hefe) with a good sized white bubbly head. Odd aroma, certainly floral but more on the lilac and rose side of floral, also a strange eggy aroma that’s hard to place. Real weird but oddly not off putting. Buttery biscuit malts. taste is mostly the buttery biscuit malts then a good hoppy bitterness half way though simple. Mouth feel is fine for style..lower carbonation but smooth enough. Overall not too impressed , its OK but not up to what I expect from this brewer!

12oz : tulip
canned: 05-14-14

Very hazy golden with a foamy, somewhat short lived white head.

Floral, lightly fruity hop character.

Medium body, foamy carbonation.

A well done, tasty IPA by all means, but at the same time it's not of their more exciting IPA's when compared to what they've released recently.
