One of the better ales of this style I have had. Deep, red color. Mostly clear. Thin, bubbly head with streak lacing. The aroma is spice and biscuit malt with hints of caramel, orange and grain. Very malt forward, with a bit of sweetness. Slightly smokey. Very smooth. A very good beer overall.

Handsome coppery amber with plenty of white foam in the tall goblet. Malty and it has the usual sweet taste of a Scotch ale, but this is quite tangy as well. There is a touch of smoke but it's just an aromatic waft that leaves you with a bitterish note. Smooth but sparkly carbonation as you sip.

Appley taste with a lot of roast grain. This is a highly drinkable beer with a lovely smokey malt taste. It goes down so easy and is so smoothly flavorsome. This is one of the nicer Scotch Ales I've had, especially in the mid-strength range. From the six pack of 12 oz cans purchased at the Co-op in Bellingham.

-medium brown, crystal clear pour from can with little visible carbonation (per the style). Malty, sweet aroma. Flavors include maple sugar, toffee and biscuit malt. A touch of peat at the finish replaces hop balance.

Great interpretation of a Scottish heavy, just lacked the great kettle caramel sweetness. Overall an awesome ale, just a bit too peaty without the balance I was hoping for. Cheers!

Can picked up at the COOP... Pours clear amber red... Dry toast and biscuity maltiness... weird fermented out dark cherry essence is light and seems out of place.. a little tannic.. Nice Scottish ale that never gets overly sweet.. despite my above negatives, this is a good mildly complex traditional ale.

12 oz can

I bought this beer about a month and a half ago, I'm hoping it's still fresh.

A standard pour yields about a half inch if head into my pint glass. The head is light tan in color. Pillowy. Looks like it'll leave some nice lacing, but we'll see about that. The body is dark red in color, almost brown, with hues of orange. Visibility is very low. Overall a pretty nice looking beer so far.

The aroma is a typical scotch ale smell. Aroma is light. Sweet malt, not overly sweet. Caramel. Borderline Irish Red aroma. Perhaps a little bready. Overall not a bad aroma, it's pleasant. But not super complex, and a little too faint.

The flavor is quite nice. Hard to tell how bready it is, but I would say there is a little in there. Rich caramel malt sweetness, but not gross. Just a touch of lingering bitterness, very small. Perhaps some toffee. Kinda a candy like sweetness, but it's not gross, at least not for me. Maybe even a little roasty, chocolate notes in here. Not amazing here, but really a pretty nice beer. The flavor isn't over the top, but it's nice, tasty, and drinkable. A solid 4, with it erring on at 4.5.

The mouth on this is very nice as well. Carbonation is about medium, good for the style. Body is definitely light, but has a little bit of thickness to it. Again, good for the style. This is definitely a sessionable beer that also has enough flavor to want to savor it, and the mouth compliments that very well.

The drinkability is very high. For being a beer that could come across as being overly sweet, it's very drinkable. It also doesn't taste like 7 percent at all.

Overall this is a very solid Scotch. An under represented style, and a good go-to here. I guess my only improvements would be a little more complex flavor. But maybe that's too much to ask for the style? Anyways, solid beer, not really anything negative to say about it.

The appearance turned out ok. Head lasted for a minute or so, but not too long. Lacing was patchy at best. From a beer that could easily have gotten a 4 for appearance at the beginning, it's gonna be a 3.5, maybe even 3.

I should add that I would definitely consider this beer fresh.

Can from New Seasons.

A very dark brown with a dense, light brown head that falls off to a ring, this looks decent. The nos eis a nice blend of toasted wheat bread, butterscotch, burnt sugar and toffee. The malt and caramelization is quite deep here. A touch of spice is present as well. The palate opens with a blend of butterscotch, burnt sugar bitterness, a little vanilla and some bread, all tempered with a little bit of a earthy, hoppy bitterness. Drying, mildly hoppy and moderately bitter on the finish with a lingering blend of creme brulee, burnt sugar and butterscotch, this medium bodied beer is lightly carbonated and very delicious. Recommended.
