look: 3.75 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Hazy, pale orange, small head that dissipates quickly. Many chunks of sediment remain after a strong pour including dregs.

Nose: Lots of butter or butterscotch up front (diacetyl?), slight citrus spiciness.

Taste: Lots of citrus hops up front with strong carbonation enhancing it. Grapefruit and grassy notes arise mid way and remain to finish.

Mouthfeel: Strong carbonation, Light body yet smooth (oats?)

Overall: A very hoppy, unique pale ale that flirts with crosses into IPA territory. Diacetyl works to balance hop sharpness and low malt flavor.

From 16 oz can to pint glass

A: The brew forms a frothy, 1-inch head on a gentle pour that leaves a fair amount of patchy lacing along the glass. The color is a light golden-tan, slightly opaque.

S: Hop forward nose, piny, with distinct notes of earthy tea. Light citrus notes bounce off a biscuity backdrop. The bouquet is floral and dry.

T: Bitter hops jump to the front, vinous and earthy. The tea-like tones in the nose are only accentuated on the palate. Citrus notes also noted. A touch of honeyed biscuits try to balance, but this is ultimately bitter and dry.

M: Chewy and stodgy for the ABV, the oatmeal works well for texture. Nicely carbonated.

Could use a little more malt-balance, but if you're looking for a hoppy, dry pale you could do a lot worse.

Pours cloudy pale orange with a good two fingers of off white head. Good amount of lacing.
Smell is all citrus.
Taste is white grapefruit with just a kiss of malts/oatmeal.
Mouthfeel is IPA. Carbonation a bit high. Long bitter dry finish.
Overall this is a Northwest IPA. More malts please. Then it would be a double APA.
Good beer for an oatmeal IPA.

Hazy yellow and orange colored pour, soft 1/2" white head on the top. Plenty of citrus in the aroma, orange for the most part. It isn't really hoppy, just citrusy, which is pretty weird given the style. Maybe do both next time you make a pale ale?

Taste also had me wondering where the hops were. They used them in Vortex, but why not here? The oats provide a nice smooth mouthfeel, but that also could have been because the beer seemed devoid of a west coast hop content.

Seems undercarbonated. Hardly any malt flavors (although I get it, its got oatmeal). Flavor isn't really this beer's strong suit. Its there, its smooth, its relatively light. Those are the descriptors of a beer I give to my friends who aren't really all that into beer. Nothing wrong with this beer, but there has to be more hops if you're gonna release a pale ale in these parts.

Drank at Canfest, where so many breweries brought old beer. . .

Can I brought to share at drewone's tasting.

Canned 4/15/13.

Pours a murky light orange with a foamy tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and grapefruit aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but the bitterness from the hops is not well balanced.

16 oz. can poured into a goblet.

Appearance - Very hazy orange. Chunks floating. Small white head and lots of wisps.

Smell - Big citrus aroma. Lots of grain. Nice.

Taste - Very grainy, then the citrus hops kick in. Good hop flavor, but the grains build up very quickly. Tons of grain. Oatmeal is strong. Bitter finish.

Mouthfeel - A little heavy. Nice pale ale flavors and then a strong body.

Overall - Weird concept. Too heavy for me, but good flavors.
