Notes/Commercial Description:
"Our IPA is made with generous additions of Cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigourously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it's home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature's intensity in every pint."

This is a Mighty fine Meaty IPA. Thick, you can cut it with a knife. Strong from the first taste. If I ever have a chance to home brew I would like to accomplish a taste like this for sure. Oregon comes through with another winner. Gotta visit that state and hang out. I see a road trip coming up.

Good mild orange pour, average head to it. Complex hop aroma, simcoe, pineapple, lemon and other citrus.

Big dose of bitter, but does come with more flavor to it than just that. Good at hiding alcohol, went well on a hot day of disc golf. Did come of more like an imperial ipa. More and more orange flavor. Slightest fractional toasting of the malt content which is not balanced in a good way, flavor leans hop heavy as it should. Sweetness is balanced, although I would be hesitant to describe this as having any caramel flavor, seemed like toffee grass was more in order to describe it.

Recommended. Highly. $3 a can is a good deal.

into a nonic pint

Pours a cloudy burnt orange with a thick sticky white head that fades to a thin layer on top.

Smells like pine, grassy hops, and lemon citrus.

Taste follows the aroma. A lot of pine, grapefruit, and lemon. Sticky hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium with light carbonation.

Overall is really good and one of my favorite Oregon IPA's

Can shared by Joe – much obliged!

Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a cream-colored head that leaves decent lacing.

Smells of grainy pale malts with good amounts of pine and slight citrus hops. Also present are slight amounts of softer floral hops.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Slightly dry pale and light caramel malts up front are joined quickly by hint of bready flavors. Joining in shortly thereafter are solid amounts of citrus and lightly herbal hops that carry through to a moderately bitter ending. Mouthfeel is good, with smooth carbonation.

Overall this was a solid and easy-drinking beer for the style. Worth a shot.

A - Served in chilled glass, very small white head with plenty of lacing throughout the drink. Dark amber to copper color,

S - Sweet citrusy nose up front, with hints of ash and earthy malts after about half a glass. Not overpowering hoppiness, but definitely there.

T - As sharp and smooth as an IPA should be, with just a hint of honey along with the bright hops. A little licorice taste at the end is a nice surprise. Quite pleasant, but nothing earth-shattering.

M - Slick and lacking the carbonation of lesser IPA's - very nice.

D - If you're an IPA fan, you could drink this all night. I would rather have a little less hops in the nose and a smoother aftertaste.

Pairing - I enjoyed this beer with peppercorn ahi carpaccio from my local joint, and I couldn't imagine a better pairing!

Pint-sized can served cold into an imperial pint glass.

Vortex is a very hazy copper color with thick, long-lasting head. It settles slowly and leaves some nice lacing.

Aroma is nice and hoppy with a good northwestern hop profile.

Flavor is also big and bold but without being over powering. An "extra" IPA instead of an imperial IPA. Piney, grassy, and citrusy leaning towards the grapefruit variety. A simple malt base just manages to balance the bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated.

Overall a really well-done northwestern IPA.

16oz CAN, chucks 85th

appearance: cool cans - served in a great dane imperial pint. prototypical IPA body - bright orange amber, a slight haze, 1/3" creamy white foam and good retention

smell: interesting blend of hops - simcoe definitely present, and of course cascades. earthy and a touch herbal

taste: pretty abrasive - lush hop profile dominated by the simcoes, prettying stinging bitterness on the finish, rich sticky malt backbone, herbal, tea, toffee. Good stuff - a little rough around the edges. The hop profile plays with your mind as it starts fresh, floral and tropical and finishes with quite the bite

mouthfeel: rich, bitter, big bodied

overall: good stuff

The aroma is a nice pine and grapefruit smell.
The taste has a moderate pine and lemon bitterness that is balanced throughout the profile.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
A solid IPA and very enjoyable.

16 oz. can poured into a goblet.

Appearance - Slightly hazy deep orange with a nice white head. Good retention and nice lacing.

Smell - Floral and bright citrus hops. A hint of grapefruit and sweet malt backing.

Taste - Excellent hop flavor and sweetness balance. Bright citrus and grapefruit. Sweetness balances it out without being heavy or overly caramelized. Bitterness builds in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium heavy. Bitter, but not too much. Slightly creamy.

Overall - Excellent. Reminiscent of top DIPAs, but lacking a touch of refinement.
