"In Cologne, Germany, many a brewery produces a light-bodied ale with a delicate fruitiness and rounded maltiness, attributable to the unique yeast strain commonly used. Our Kölsch is unfiltered and more generously hopped than its German cousin."

Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner and Munich malt and Perle hops. 5.2% ABV, 40 BU

Served on tap at Pints Urban Taproom at 412 NW 5th Ave in Portland, OR.

A: Golden-yellow with a frothy, white head that settles into a spotty, bubbly snowcap.

S: Citrus hops, orange and grapefruit.

T: A wonderful, easy drinking ale with some signature northwest hops that add a nice citrusy flavor.

M: Light-bodied and easy finishing. I could drink this all day:

O: The color and taste are top-notch. Somehow, it tastes just like it looks. A ray of sunshine that is good for all seasons.

12 FL OZ bottle
Served in a pint glass

This beer pours pale yellow with a slight haze. It is topped with an inch of eggshell head that leaves lacing rings as I consume.

It has a grain and vegetal aroma along with some grass notes. I get a little lemon.

It is light up front. Then I get a bitter metallic taste. The bitterness lingers into the finish and aftertaste. The are some noble hops flavor. Hints of grain.

Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel

I don't really care for the bitterness. It does seem to lessen as I drink more though.

Slightly cloudy gold pour--it is billed as an unfiltered ale. Strong malt presence, and maybe a bit hoppier than a true German style Kolsch. And speaking of, one of the things I've always found super appealing about the Kolsch style is it's subtlety. Almost delicate in its approach. In this beer, I found the twin malts too heavy-handed, affecting the beer's overall balance.

Slightly hazy golden ale. Clean finish. Head maintained itself well down the glass. A bit more umph to it's taste than other kolsch I've had. I'm having a hard time determining what makes this different from others. It's good, however. I'd buy it again.

a really well done kolsch here, everything from these guys is always good, and this has more flavor than a lot of the other american made examples of the style, i really dug it. its real pale wheaty looking blonde to me, not quite crystal clear, and under a huge two inches of white head from the tap, super airy. the nose is pretty classic, the yeast is right, the grain is decidedly german, and there is a crackery pils vibe to it with some herbal noble hops and some minerals evident. the flavor is crisp and clean, well conditioned, dry and bubbly, and with a summery pale cereal taste on the malt side, fresher than it ever seems to be from the imports, and maybe a little lighter overall too, without the more assertive malt flavor many kolsch types showcase. i like the little bit of bitterness for balance at the end, and with the high carbonation, this basically stops on the swallow, refreshing and clean, sort of minimal too, but i like a lighter version of the style and this is one i could drink a dozen of without much trouble. its awesome to be living in a place where double mountain beer is more available, i am always pleased with whatever i have from them. this is a perfect kolsch for summer, expertly crafted and affordably priced.

edit: unsurprisingly, this was even better at the brewery, super fresh, maybe a little lighter and cleaner tasting and feeling than it tends to be elsewhere, just a really good example of the style overall. these guys can do no wrong as far as i am concerned. my new wife loved it too!

This is an alright kolsch but compared to its German counterpart, it's a bit sharp. Still a nice beer. I drank a nice bunch in Cologne, so I may be a little sentimental.

Awesome kolsch! Brewers in Cologne would be proud to have this. One of the best American kolschs I’ve tried. Light and bready, lots of pale malt, biscuits, crackers. Tall airy head (poured into my Fruh stange), Pale golden and effervescent. Right from the first sniff I knew this was going to be good.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger white head that died down, leaving a collar of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of green grapes are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of green grapes along with hints of biscuit malts and a bit of chalkiness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There is some dryness in the finish.
O: This kölsch is packed with lots of aromas and flavors of green grapes and is a good representation of the style.

Fresh, light, crisp. Mouth feel with just the right amount of carbonation. Restrained hoppiness. Another excellent example of a European style beer with guaranteed NW freshness (non cryptic "bottled on" date").
