I had this beer during the 2012 for fresh hop season while in PDX region for marathon in October. The appearance of this double ipa was notable for a deep honey amber color with nice white head with good retention. (photographed because we found the appearance and taste to be exceptional) ( and so I can look at it longingly as we live far far away from Hood River). Strong hoppy aroma and unbelievable hop presence on the palate without (amazingly) being too bitter or unbalanced. As you can surmise I liked this beer and we made three trips to double mountain in three days....anything less than "a four" for this beer is criminal!

Purchased a growler this afternoon at the brewery. Pours a pretty orange-amber color topped by a lively white head that has some staying power and leaves a pretty white lacing on the glass. Aroma of dank, wet hops, with some specific citrus (grapefruit) and cannabis notes. I almost feel like I could get a contact high from the aroma.
Palate is very hop-forward, with grapefruit, cannabis, and pine notes throughout. On the swallow a bit of caramel malt emerges, but is quickly overshadowed by the hoppy onslaught. Finish is a lasting, citrusy bitterness. Body is full enough to withstand the intense pressure put on it by the strong flavors, but responds favorably. If you're looking for a punch in the mouth from the humulus lupus plant, this is it. Super strong, super assertive, but still approachable, this is an amazing example of a fresh hop beer that can only be made in the northwest.

appearance: served in a shaker pint, clear amber-orange body, filmy white head with a sticky lace

smell: earthy green hops, grain, grassy

taste: grassy earthy hops - just not a lot of depth which seems to be consistent with the other double mountain hop-forward beers i've sampled. Grain, rustic malt, roasted vegetables. Not of the finer fresh hop brews of the season

mouthfeel: oily and slick

Just had on tap at Bottles NW in NE PDX! Why this is labeled a double I do not know! Double hops maybe?

- Clear amber brew with a big fizzling white fluffy head.. leaves a nice thin pancake on top... clear... light copper....

- Robust grain, malt, caramel... an earthy grassy floral hop hit to the face...

- Overall very balanced... super balanced, and dangerous. Caramel malts, grain, lightly sweetened Jesus juice... nice grassy, floral, and citrus hops melt to perfect this nectar.

- Overall medium bodied... maybe a bit more light... creamy, sweet, syrupy, and robust.

- I am a fan, and could drink this until the point of just falling asleep. A very smooth sailing and balanced fresh hop brew.

Poured into a Chuckanut pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy, medium copper amber with a fine one finger white head with great retention and lacing. Nice aroma of orange family fruit, light tropical, citrus and herbal hops. Flavor is similar to aroma, with orange family citrus and rind, grassy, almost earthy hops, slightly herbal with hints of rosemary and mint. Nice long lasting minty herbal hop finish. Medium bodied. A nicely balanced IPA with the malt taking second place to the fresh hops, which have a different profile from the more standard NW 3-Cs hops. A nice change and nice blend of hop flavors. I liked this quite a bit. A consistently very good brewery.

Had on tap last night at the Double Mountain / Podnah's BBQ & Beer meatztravaganza. What an event!

Beer appears rather cloudy and on the darker side for a DIPA. Very slight amount of head, perhaps because this was poured from a pitcher.

Nose is nice and hoppy but not particularly outstanding. The keg was produced about 8 months ago which could inhibit the bouquet. Pleasant but not great.

Taste is smooth, with somewhat of a grassy aspect to it. Not unlike having a piece of dried straw in your mouth. Not unpleasant but different for a DIPA. The hops are certainly attenuated after sitting in the keg for so long.

Drinkability seems high. The beer is fairly smooth and easy drinking so I could easily see packing away a few pints without noticing.

Overall, very drinkable DIPA. Too bad it was not fresh, I bet if it was fresh the score would increase significantly.

500ml bottle bought from Lifesource in Salem OR $4.99 2014 7.5% alc. and a whopping 97 IBU Clear dark golden/orange coloured body with a great thick,rough and rocky off white head. Nice citrusy,pine like hops aromas dominate, there is a nice bit caramel malts but its hops we came for ! Taste more balanced with some toffeeish chewy malts ( almost English in style) poking up above the fresh citrus/spruce hops..its a battle all over the tongue! Nice solid mouthfeel//lovely long lasting fresh hop after taste. Lovely beer. But with the strong malts this is a Fresh Hop Imperial IPA!

Enjoyed out of a heavy-duty brown bottle with now dating that I can find, but I do know this is from 2013 hop harvest, so it is pretty fresh. Poured into the Spiegelau "special" IPA glass.

Appearance - Pours a deep golden amber with notes of orange and sunny spun gold highlights where the light passes through the liquid. The hue is much darker up under the massive three and a half finger off-white head of tight bubbles. Retention is outstanding, with the bubbles expanding a little, then slowly beginning to burst. Foam never completely goes away, leaving an whip-cream like island in the middle of the liquid, surrounded by mottled sheets of lacing.

Smell - Fresh and green organic aromas, with pine needle, grass, perhaps some basil and thyme along with some of the more skunky (in a good way) characteristics that one might associate with cannabis. Under the herbal bouquet is nice balance of more earthy characteristics.

Taste - The fresh green elements are again on full display, providing a bit more bitterness than initially suspected by the smell. Pine resin, grapefruit rind, fresh-cut grass, and a healthy balance from the malt base, but doesn't overwhelm the hop profiles, which are still the star of the show. It gives the impression of light sourdough. Some of the pungency that was present in the smell again provides some heft to the taste.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied and simultaneously juicy and chewy, but more on the chewy side. A robust IPA that doesn't overpower with the ABV level. Carbonation is moderate.

Overall, I'm starting to wonder if I will ever find a wet-hopped/fresh-hopped IPA that I don't like. I've now tried a handful and they've all been delicious in their own unique way. This is more on the earthy side than some of the others I've had, which have been very fruit-forward/juicy.
