375 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Bright red. Small white head. Uneven collar.

Smell - Cherry. Vanilla. Some caramel and a little acidity.

Taste - Mildly sour. Cherry. Sweet cherry up front. A little vinegary after that. More tart in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium light. Astringent. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Pretty flavorful, but not really dynamic enough.

On tap @ the Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom (Hood River, OR) on 8/28/11. Served in a goblet.

Pours a clear ruby, with thin covering of bright-white head. This retains with a smallish amount of foamy edging, leaving back just a bit of sudsy spotty lace. The aroma smells of fresh cherries up front, which then gives way to a combo of earthy Bretty tartness and then a bit more of an acetic smelling sourness. Underlying sweet sugars sit underneath, helping prop up those notes of fruit and funk.

The taste is similar, with a blast of cherry tartness, which is buffeted by a wave of sweet sugary malt. Dry funky tartness hangs on the edges of the profile and then pulls into the back where more of an acidic character takes over. Tartness wins out in the end though, as this finishes with quite a puckering feel. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and VERY lively feeling up front, before more of a slippery feel takes over and give this more of a sleek creaminess in the mouth. This has a good feel that matches up well with all of that tartness/sourness.

I didn’t find this super complex or anything but it definitely brought the goods for those looking for a decent sour fix. I’d love to see this one put into a barrel, as some vanilla and oak would really round this one out nicely.

Buckeyeboy and Inflatablechair were cool enough gents to stop in at Double Mountain and secure a tap-filled Grolsch bottle... Badass.... I will call this a growler.... and thanks to the folks at Double Mountain too!!

Pours with only a thin collar ... the brew is a deep dark red.. sorta like a sorta turbid red wine...

The nose just screams sweet cherries... only a lite funk to let you know this isn't "just a fruit beer".

Flavor shows the obvious cherries... very nice abundant fruit... not really "acetic", but there are traces of minor vinegar that makes it pretty interesting.. the "funk" is sorta a dry dusty brett character that seems to get pummeled by the cherries.... Body was heavier than expected with a lite carbonation..

I really liked this one... I would be stoked to have a few nice glasses from tap...

Thanks Jeremy and Sam... I owe you for this one.

A: Apricot in color, low carbonation, medium-low clarity. Syrupy.

S: The bing is a unique cherry. Pronounced fruitiness (and not just cherry!) with a sharp lactic zing. The sweet/sour interplay in this beer gives it a slightly acetic edge which detracts from the fruit. It does have a slight solvent quality.

T: Bright bing cherry flavor with strong sourness. The booze is quite noticable, I think they could scale back the abv a few points. Dont get much brett character, which I think would help the strong flavors in this beer meld together. The cherry flavor is unique and huge, so points there.

M: This growler had gone a bit flat by the time I got it, a pretty syrupy beer for a 'kriek'.

An interesting beer featuring an interesting cherry.

Thanks to rudzud for sharing.

bottled 1/15/14, brewed in 2012

Pours a small fizzy head that fades almost instantly, typical sour, bright cherry red but dark and murky color.

NOse brings tons of cherry, a nice kriek like cherry, little sour cherry note and tartness, little sweet syrupyness, mild funky sour note, Pretty basic.

Taste is also a bit lighter than expected, well at least not really too complex, some cherry, not a ton of cherry, sour cherry note, little dank funk, little sweet syrupy and cherry coffee syrup, little boozy too, tangy and acidic. Finish is a bit syrupy, bit booze warmth too, little more sour cherry and tangy, sticky.

Mouth is med bod, mild acid note, light booze warmth, lighter carb.

Overall eh, not bad, but nothing special. Bit too boozy and not enough carb, fairly basic and meh but not bad. 375
